QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT CAIRNS JOCKEY CLUB SUNDAY 3 MARCH 2024 WEATHER – Overcast TRACK RATING – Soft (7); upgraded to Soft (6) after Race 3; Upgraded to Soft (5) after Race 5RAIL +2 metres 1,000 metres to 350 metres. PENETROMETER – 7.1 OFFICIALS Stewards Panel – R Neal (Chair); S Copelin: A Holzhauser (Cadet) SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT GENERAL Jockey Ryan Wiggins advised the Stewards following the postponement of the meeting from Friday 1st March 2024 to today, that he would be unable to make the required weight for ASSYMETRY in Race 1. Jockey Wiggins was replaced on ASSYMETRY by Jason Taylor.Given all circumstances no further action was required. Stewards opened and adjourned an investigation into an incident which allegedly occurred in the saddling enclosure after the running of Race 9. Race 1: GORDONS PINK GIN GARDEN PARTY ON SALE NOW MAIDEN HANDICAP 950 M ATOMIC THEORY – proved difficult to load – warning placed on barrier manners. Stewards questioned Ms J Edwards regarding the run of the gelding which lost contact with the race leader rounding the final turn before making ground over the latter stages. In explanation Ms Edwards stated that ATOMIC THEORY came off the bridle passing the 550 metres despite her efforts and, in her view, may be better suited to more distance. Ms Edwards explanation was noted.STEEL GRIT – jumped inward at the start: raced wide throughout. JAAKUNA -slow to begin. Race 2: BETTER PROMO MAIDEN PLATE 1250 M IMPERIUM – slow to begin. Rider fined excessive whip. HE CAN JAJA – raced wide rounding the first turn. Laid in approaching the winning post and had to be straightened. Rider Denicious Smith (IMPERIUM) admitted a breach of AR 132(7)(a)(ii) and was fined $400.00 after applying his whip on more than 5 occasions (9 times) prior to the 100 metres. Race 3: MY VILLAGE BAKEHOUSE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1250 M KING CANUTE – had to steady off heels near the 900 metres. READY TO REASON – slow to begin; raced wide throughout. GO GO GIRL – began awkwardly and got back. GABBY'S READY – lost momentum when improving to the lead near the 900 metres resulting in SHIHO being briefly crowded. SHIHO – got its head up when briefly crowded near the 900 metres. CYBER JAM – had to steady near the 900 metres. Race 4: LADBROKES RACING CLUB BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1500 M SOUTHERN SWING – placed in restricted room near the 900 metres and went off-stride momentarily after OVER THE FALLS lay in when making the first turn. After returning to the stalls blood was detected in the nasal region- a subsequent veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled in one nostril. SOUTHERN SWING is now subject to the provisions of AR79(8) whereby it must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before next racing. Trainer Mr T Rowe advised that it was their intention to now retire the gelding. OVER THE FALLS – lay in rounding the first turn and had to be restrained. CALDANTE rider questioned regarding rider tactics – inquiry adjourned. Stewards opened and adjourned an investigation into the riding of CALDANTE (Ms Gabrielle Semmens) which lost ground in the early stages and remained off the body until the 500 metres, where gelding then made ground and finished in fourth position. Race 5: R & J BATTERIES BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1250 M MY BEST EFFORT – shifted in on jumping. HOKOLESQUA – bumped at the start. KING'SHALO – hampered at the start. BETTA AL – bumped at the start. Following this event, the track was upgraded to Soft (5) Race 6: NORLIFT OPEN HANDICAP 1250 M BATTLE CRY – hampered on jumping and lost ground. Raced greenly in the final straight. OCEAN EMPEROR – jumped in at the start. LE VIZIR – proved difficult to load, got its head up and laid out rounding the first turn. RED LIGHT ROXANNE – slow into stride. LOVE ON SUNDAY – raced wide throughout. Race 7: MMC HR BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 950 M ALI'S JAB – bumped after the start. EYEWITNESS – gave ground latter stages and finished back, rider stated that the mare had travelled well until the straight entrance however failed to respond when pressured and was disappointing. Post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. PLAGIARIZED – shifted in on jumping and bumped. NEVER CRY – buffeted after start. POMADE – raced 4-wide throughout. Race 8: BILL ANDERSON CONSTRUCTIONS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP 950 M SIMPLY BEANS was a late scratching at 4:40pm after undergoing a veterinary examination at the barriers and being found to be lame in the near hind. Trainer Mr F Weiland was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the mare next racing. FODOR – began awkwardly. BORLOTTI BEANS – began awkwardly. DUYFKEN – bumped at the start. AUGUSTA REVOLUTION – slow to begin; raced wide from the 950 metres. MAKANUI -raced wide throughout. MADONNACAN'TSING – bumped at the start. Race 9: LINDON REED MORTGAGE CHOICE CAIRNS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP 1400 M EYE OF RA – reared immediately prior to dispatch then began very awkwardly, with jockey Adam Sewell contacting the barriers with his knee and being dislodged. Jockey Sewell was examined by the on-track medical personnel (QAS) and cleared of any injury. EYE OF RA continued riderless clear of the field before being recaptured post-race. LAST NOT LEAST – crowded inside of FANCIFUL MR FOX, which was laying in, making the first turn and contacted the rail becoming briefly unbalanced. SOPHIA'S LASS – raced wide in the middle stages. NIGHT GUY – hampered after the start and lost ground. MISS WHITE – raced wide throughout. MISHANI MENACE – improved onto heels near the 800 metres and had to be steadied, briefly losing momentum.
