The following runners which had not raced for an extended period all underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and were cleared to start.

Race 1: CORAL COAST CATERING RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP – 950 Metres

PUTERE – Slow to begin.

NIC'S DREAM – Slow to begin.

ROSE OF ATHENS – Began awkwardly.

PREMIUM STAR – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Continued to lose ground and finished tailed off. When asked to explain the gelding’s performance rider C. Rawiller advised stewards PREMIUM STAR changed stride several times and never felt comfortable throughout the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer A. Bailey subsequently reported PREMIUM STAR had pulled up well and eaten up overnight however was at a loss to explain the performance. Mr Bailey was advised the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of stewards and provide a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to being permitted to race again.

DENIMS – Put its head down as the start was effected and lost ground.

GOLDEN CHARLES – Shifted out leaving the 500 metres bumping THE WALLET on the hind quarters.

THE WALLET – Bumped on the hind quarters leaving the 500 metres and was unbalanced.

GUAPO – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

Race 2: RED BERET HOTEL RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP – 950 Metres

WRONGFULLY WRONG – Underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was declared a late scratching at 12.46pm when found to be lame in the off-hind leg. All monies invested on WRONGFULLY WRONG were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 12.46pm:

Trainer N. Homann was advised she must provide a veterinary clearance of fitness prior to trialling or racing again.

LEAN EAGLE – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

SHERE KHAN – Slow to begin.

CALM IS POWER – Put its head down as the start was effected and then began awkwardly, bounding in the air and lost ground. Trainer T. Rowe was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.

LUCKY ROLLA – Slow to begin.

RUE LEPIC – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have strained its off-front flexor tendon. Subsequently trainer M. Dale advised stewards RUE LEPIC had also strained its near front flexor tendon and as such it is his intention that the gelding be retired from racing, should circumstances change RUE LEPIC will require x-rays of both tendons prior to trialling or racing again with the results being reviewed by stewards.

Race 3: HIGGINS COATINGS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP – 950 Metres

DON'TLEAVEMENOW – As jockey A. Thompson was delayed arriving on course due to transportation difficulties, he was replaced by non-claiming apprentice T. Leslight and was ridden at the advertised weight of 54.5 kilograms.

HAND GRENADE – Made heavy contact with the enclosure gate when entering the course proper dislodging jockey J. Stanley, becoming loose and galloping some distance and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 1.18pm. All monies invested on HAND GRANADE were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 1.18pm:

Jockey J. Stanley was examined by the QAS officers and cleared of injury able to fulfil his further engagements.

Jockey J. Stanley advised stewards following the completion of the meeting that he was feeling some slight soreness in the right shoulder and lower back. Jockey Stanley was advised to seek medical advice should there be any further deterioration.

WICKEDLY ELEGANT – Was declared a late scratching at 1.30pm when refused to load. All monies invested on WICKEDLY ELEGANT were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters between 1.18pm and 1.30pm:

Trainer M. Taylor was advised he must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to WICKEDLY ELEGANT being permitted to race again.

SOGOYA – Delayed the start when proved difficult to load. Trainer representative A. Holt was advised SOGOYA must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to being permitted to race again.

MISS RAMBLER – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Trainer S. Massingham was advised a warning would be placed on the filly’s barrier manners.

MAGIC INTENT – Slow to begin.

ISLA GIRL – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority.

Due to the delay of this race times were amended to:
Race 4 – 2.10pm, Race 5 – 2.42pm, Race 6 – 3.20pm, Race 7 – 3.58pm, Race 8 – 4.29pm, Race 9 – 5.02pm.

Race 4: KENSINGTON PARK HORSE AGISTMENT MAIDEN PLATE – 1250 Metres

ALMIGHTY JAB – Was declared a late scratching at 2.09pm when became fractious in the barriers and becoming momentarily cast. All monies invested on ALMIGHTY JAB were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 2.09pm:

Trainer S. Massingham was advised he must obtain a veterinary clearance prior to ALMIGHTY JAB being permitted to trial or race again and a further barrier certificate before being permitted to race again.

POWER SHOW – Slow to begin. Raced greenly in the early stages.

FIDEL – Bounded in the air and shifted in hampering MOEGREEN and lost ground. Raced ungenerously in the early stages and laid out near the 1000 metre turn and was steadied.

MOEGREEN (NZ) – Hampered on jumping. Restrained off heels leaving the 900 metres.

JAAKUNA – Restrained off heels near the 900 metres.

SPRING'S GIFT – Restrained off heels near the 900 metres when racing in restricted room.

Race 5: 99.5 TRIPLE M CAIRNS BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP – 950 Metres

GULF OF LION – Slow to begin.

ROUGH CUT JEWEL – Slow to begin. Placed in restricted room and bumped near the 50 metres.

GOSSIP TORQUE – Shifted in under pressure near the 50 metres bumping with ROUGH CUT JEWEL when placing that runner in restricted room. Jockey A. Thompson was severely reprimanded and advised to show greater care.

MIKADO – Slow into stride.

REGAL CONQUEROR – Over-raced in the early stages.

WELL IN SIGHT – Raced wide for the majority.

MAZZARATTI – Raced wide for the majority.

Race 6: LADBROKES CAIRNS NEWMARKET – 1400 Metres

CONSTANT FLIGHT – Connections advised stewards they had misplaced the advertised gear of visors and unable to locate a pair. As such stewards permitted CONSTANT FLIGHT to race without that gear. This was advised via media outlet and track broadcaster. Raced wide for the majority.

SMART IMAGE – Declared a late scratching at 3.22pm when refused to load. All monies invested on SMART IMAGE were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 3.22pm:

After hearing submissions from trainers T & P Rowe, jockey A. Buttler and starter Mr B. Brady, Trainers T & P Rowe were advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.

OUTBACK ACTION – Slow to begin.

RUBY JULY – Slow to begin.

HE'S XCEPTIONAL – Began awkwardly and bumped. Over-raced in the early stages. Made the 800 metre crossing awkwardly. Trainer J. Caught subsequently advised stewards the gelding had returned to its stable showing soreness in both front legs and across the back. Mr Caught was advised he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to HE’S XCEPTIONAL trialling or racing again.

MONTENEGRO MAN – Shifted out at the start bumping HE’S XCEPTIONAL.

MR MAESTRO (NZ) – Slow into stride and bumped on jumping. Checked and shifted wider near the 1000 metres when inconvenienced.

FULL RECOGNITION – Shifted out at the start bumping with MR MAESTRO. Over-raced in the middle stages.

SPEED LEGEND – Began awkwardly bumping with HONKYTONK DIVA and then improved into a tight run shortly after the start and was steadied. Over-raced in the early stages and raced in restricted room. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

HONKYTONK DIVA – Bumped on jumping.

PRIME RULER – Commenced to over-race approaching the 1000 metres and when being restrained shifted out inconveniencing MR MAESTRO which was checked and shifted wider losing ground. Continued to over-race for some distance having to be restrained.

Race 7: CAIRNS POST BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP – 1900 Metres

SO DAPPER – Delayed the start when lost its off-hind plate behind the barriers and was unable to be replated, as such the near hind plate was removed and raced bare behind. Tightened for room on jumping.

BETTA AL – Shifted out at the start bumping MODERNISSIMO and when being corrected shifted in tightening runners to its inside.

MODERNISSIMO (NZ) – Bumped on jumping and shifted out bumping HELLO NEWMAN.

STADIUM OF LIGHT (NZ) – Tightened for room on jumping.

HELLO NEWMAN – Bumped on the hind quarters on jumping and was unbalanced. Raced wide for the majority.

MEDAL (NZ) – Raced wide in the early stages.

BLUE SWIMMER – Rider dropped his whip leaving the 200 metres.

Race 8: GREAT NORTHERN BREWING CO. QTIS CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1250 Metres

THEGIRLSGOTTHIS – Slow to begin. Made the 1000 metre turn awkwardly and was restrained.

BARMERA – Shifted out at the start bumping SUPER TWENTY THREE. Laid out near the 1000 metres inconveniencing FEEASHIN MOON.

SUPER TWENTY THREE – Bumped on jumping. Over-raced in the early stages.

FEEASHIN MOON – Slow into stride. Inconvenienced near the 1000 metres. Over-raced in the early and middle stages.

CANDLELIT – Put in awkward strides shortly after the start. Trainer S. Royes was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners. Raced wide for the majority.

LIDDER VALLEY – Over-raced in the early stages.

ZORAYDAH (NZ) – Over-raced in the early stages.

Race 9: ELLIS BEACH BAR & GRILL BELLE OF THE DAINTREE FILLIES & MARES BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP – 1500 Metres

OLD SCHOOL – Was marginally slow to begin and was then tightened for room between runners and lost ground.

LADY DAMUS – Shifted in at the start bumping with REDAVNI.

REDAVNI – Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping with LADY DAMUS.

BRAVE MASO – Over-raced in the middle stages.

LOBURN LASS – Over-raced in the early stages. Shifted out near the 250 metres placing HEARSAY in restricted room.

VADAMOS QUEEN (NZ) – Shifted out slightly under pressure near the 250 metres causing LOBURN LASS to shift wider.

TYCOON BABY – Shifted in slightly near the 250 metres crowding HEARSAY.

HEARSAY – When questioned jockey J. Stanley stated he was not into the run and when attempting a tight run between TYCOON BABY which shifted in slightly and LOBURN LASS which shifted out near the 250 metres was disappointed for that run and had to be restrained and blundered.
