Race 1: Brett Moody 30 Yrs @ Cunnamulla Race Calling QTIS Maiden Handicap 1000m

TOUGH AS TRISH (L. Tilley) and KOH ZAIM (C. Kearney) were slow to begin.

MAGARI’S DREAM (N. Ogura) raced wide and hung out approaching and rounding the home turn.

Race 2: Friendly Grocer Class 1 Handicap 1000m

BOURGEOIS BABE was declared a late withdrawal at 1pm after trainer P. Kendall confirmed that due to transport difficulties, the horse was unable to be transported to the track.

As G. Geran was overweight, he was replaced by C. Kearney as the rider for BECKONED STAR. G. Geran was fined the sum of $100.

Stewards acceded to a request from trainer J. Patterson to allow jockey S. Morris to ride HALFBACK KID 1 kilogram over the horses allotted handicap weight. S. Morris was fined $100 for accepting a ride in which he was overweight.

When arriving at the barriers, jockey R. Kerwin (AFFIRMATIVE) informed the veterinary surgeon that she was concerned with her mounts action in the near fore leg. Stewards ordered the withdrawal of AFFIRMATIVE at 2.00 pm on veterinary advice, due to the mare’s action and being found to be unsteady on both front legs.

Stewards ordered that all monies invested on AFFIRMATIVE be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 2.00 pm:

10 cents in the dollar for the Win #3
11 cents in the dollar for place of winner #3
12 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #5
9 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #1

CASINO MERCALDI (W. Doyle) was slow to begin.

ZIPOLITE (L. Tilley) was slow to begin and unable to muster speed in the early stages.

RUBYRICHBOY (H. Kim) hung out rounding the home turn.

Trainer W. Baker will be advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for the mare prior to racing again.

Race 3: Oigle Coleman & Steve Higgins Memorial Benchmark 70 Handicap 1000m

Trainer B. Sheppard reported that GENERAL SORRISO had shifted the near fore plate during the week resulting in some of the hoof wall breaking away. A pre-race veterinary examination of GENERAL SORRISO passed the gelding to race.

DE BURGHLER (R. Kerwin) stood flat footed and was then slow into stride losing significant ground. R. Kerwin stated that after the horse lost ground at the start it was reluctant to stretch out due to the kickback from the track and raced a considerable distance behind the main body of the field. She added that once she was able position the horse wider on the track it did respond to her riding and ran to the line fairly. A post-race veterinary examination of DE BURGHLER failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer B. Waldron will be advised that a warning will be placed on the barrier manners of DE BURGHLER.

SENITOA (N. Ogura) and ARCTIC COMMAND (W. Morris) were slow to begin.

Near the 500m ARCTIC COMMAND improved onto the heels of WIGPOOL and was restrained until near the 400m.

Race 4: Warrego Hotel Motel Class 3 Plate 1200m

AFFECTIONATE ONE (S. Morris) was slow to begin.

S. Morris reported at scale that AFFECTIONATE ONE felt sore in front. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer J. Patterson will be advised that he will be required to produce a veterinary clearance for AFFECTIONATE ONE before racing again.

When interviewed regarding the improved performance of EDWARDSCISSORHANDS, trainer R. Sullivan stated that he was surprised by today’s performance and could only add that the gelding may have benefitted from the change in diet which he had implemented to assist in the treatment of stomach ulcers. He added that the claim by apprentice G. Steele may also have been a factor on the performance. Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 5: Ann Duff Memorial Class B Handicap 1400m

Correct weight was delayed to allow the connections of TELL ME NO LIES (M. McGillivray) to view the patrol footage to establish if that runner was denied a fair start. After viewing the available footage, connections did not wish to proceed after it was established that TELL ME NO LIES had stood flat footed at the start and lost considerable ground. Correct weight was then declared on the Judges semaphored numbers. Trainer B. Richardson will be advised that a warning will be placed on the barrier manners of that mare.

SYRUS (G. Steele) was slow to begin.

GRAND SUITE (L. Tilley) hung in under pressure in the home straight.

Apprentice G. Steele was reprimanded for negligently sending the incorrect saddle cloth number out for her mount SYRUS.

Race 6: Burrenbilla Pastoral Company Cunnamulla Cup Open Handicap 1400m

MASTER NICK (S. Morris) was slow to begin.

LIKE A GEE SIX (R. Kerwin) shifted in at the start and bumped BIG BAD JOEL (L. Tilley).
