SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Trainer Mr W. Baker advised Stewards prior to todays’ meeting that he was unable to locate a rider for his horse WINNING LEGEND in the Cunnamulla Race Club Benchmark 55 Handicap 1200M which was Race 3 at today’s program. Stewards accepted Mr Baker’s explanation and subsequently declared the horse a late scratching at 0745 hrs. Mr Baker further advised Stewards that he had two late riders on his horse’s CRAIGLEA EVITA in Race 1 at today’s meeting and LOOPED in Race 2 at todays’ meeting. Stewards accepted Mr Baker’s explanation and no further action was taken. Late riders are as per the Stewards Summary.

Stewards spoke with Trainer Mr R. Sullivan regarding the late rider and subsequent late scratching of Red Centurion in Race 3 at todays’ meeting. Stewards accepted Mr Sullivan’s explanation and the horse was officially scratched by order of Stewards at 1.12pm. Stewards advised Mr Sullivan of his responsibilities regarding this type of incident and after considering Mr Sullivan’s excellent record in relation to this type of offence no further action was taken.

On his arrival to the course Apprentice Jockey J. King advised Stewards that he would be unable to claim his allowance on his two rides Race 3- BOTANICAL BELLE and Race 4- BELLAVON at todays ‘meeting. Stewards intend making further inquiries into Apprentice King’s failure to claim his allotted allowance prior to considering if a penalty should be imposed.

Race 1: FRANCIS LEWIS ELECTRICAL CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1000M

GEEJAY (Appr. D. Evans) jumped awkwardly.

ROYAL REWARD (Appr. Ms N. Morton) travelled wide during the mid- late stages of the event.

Race 2: WARREGO HOTEL MOTEL BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1200M

ADRIATIC OCEAN (Appr. B. Newport) jumped awkwardly and as a result PROJECT COMPASSION (Appr. D. Evans) was tightened for room. LA CLOISONNE (Appr. Ms N. Morton) had to be steadied and shifted ground, in an attempt to avoid the incident and the mare then travelled wide from the 1000M point for the majority of the race.

Race 3: CUNNAMULLA RACE CLUB BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1200M

Apprentice Jockey J. King was unable to claim his allowance on his mount BOTANICAL BELLE. After considering the evidence and submissions by all parties and there were no other riders were available to ride the horse Stewards allowed Apprentice King to for fill his engagement.

COME BY OFTEN (J. Rudd) dwelt at the start and then was forced to travel wide leaving the 1000M point. Stewards spoke with Jockey J. Rudd regarding the horse’s performance during this event. Jockey Rudd advised Stewards the horse appeared to jump better than its previous run at Tambo. Jockey Rudd stated he was of the opinion that COME BY OFTEN was field shy and despite his best efforts to improve the horse’s position during the event the gelding failed to respond and the performance was disappointing effort overall. Stewards spoke with Trainer Mr G. Currie regarding the disappointing performance. He stated that COME BY OFTEN had performed well at a recent barrier Trial at Charleville and that he was at a loss to explain the poor performance today. He stated he would give the horse another trial during the forthcoming week as he intended to run the horse at an upcoming meeting at Charleville. Stewards considered the submissions by all parties and placed a warning on the horse.

Race 4: LOLA WEBSTER MEMORIAL HANDICAP 1400M

Stewards spoke with Trainer R. McMaster and Apprentice J. King regarding Apprentice King not being able to claim his allowance. Stewards subsequently substituted J. King with Apprentice N Morton who was able to make the allotted weight and was on this occasion the only apprentice jockey available.

SHAKES (Ms. R. Kerwin) missed the start and lost substantial ground.

GENERAL SORRISO (Appr. B. Newport) was slow to begin.

BIG BAD JOEL (Appr. D. Evans) was slowly away and failed to go the early speed.

FALONTINO (J. RUDD) was slowly away and veered in abruptly soon after the start.

The declaration of correct was delayed due to Trainer Mr P. Webster and Jockey Ms R. Kerwin seeking to view the Video surveillance footage available to Stewards to ascertain if SHAKES was afforded a fair start.
After viewing the patrol films Ms Kerwin and Mr Webster sought to have SHAKES declared a Non Runner on the ground that a barrier attendant impeded the horse on jumping away. In considering the matter Stewards heard submissions from Ms R Kerwin, Mr P Webster, Starter Mr R Jones and barrier staff regarding the matter. After considering the application stewards were of the opinion that the barrier staff did handle the horse in an appropriate manner and no blame could be attributed to them as they acted in good faith to assist the horse and/or the rider in barriers. Further, Stewards could not be reasonably satisfied that this incident materially prejudiced the horses chances of finishing 1st, 2nd or 3rd in this race and therefore dismissed the application, declared the horse a runner, and declared correct weight.
