QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT CUNNAMULLA AND DISTRICT DIGGERS’ RACE CLUB CUNNAMULLA – SATURDAY, 12 AUGUST 2023 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – DIRT RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – E. TicknerStewards – D. McDonald Clerk of Scales – StewardsJudge – T. McNultyVeterinarian – Dr J. BridleSwab Attendants – Dr J. Bridle Starter – R. Jones GENERAL Race 2, No. 2 – WARRAH FLASH – Declared a late scratching at 12:00pm when no rider was available. Race 1:BROWN & HURLEY TOOWOOMBA QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (1000m) DABILDOYA – Began awkwardly. BRING THE ROMANCE – Bumped on jumping. DUCHESS TILLY – Began awkwardly. Inside the 200m, momentarily tightened onto the rail when VALONIA shifted ground. VALONIA – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped BRING THE ROMANCE. Inside the 200m, laid in under pressure, momentarily tightening DUCHESS TILLY. Rider B. Newport was advised to exercise greater care. Race 2: ARKRIGHTS STORE BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP (1000m) NO DEBT – Raced four-wide and without cover throughout the event. Laid in abruptly under pressure in the early part of the home straight before being corrected by its rider. WARRAH FLASH – Declared a late scratching at 12:00pm when no rider was available. MISERY MISS – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. NO NAY EMERALD – Performed below expectations. Apprentice S. McCann stated the gelding is best suited in events when able to dictate in the lead and not be challenged in the manner in which it was in this event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. MODERNA’S ARROW – Began awkwardly. Race 3: BILL PESKETT MEMORIAL CLASS B HANDICAP (1200m) THE VERESDALE – Apprentice D. Stanley reported the gelding hung-out throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. MORABY GIRL – Difficult to load. Trainer L. Mawn was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare for its barrier manners. Performed below expectations. Apprentice S. Robbins stated the mare travelled well throughout the early stages, however failed to let down when placed under pressure and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. THE SABBATH – Rider L. Miller was permitted to ride 0.5kg over the allotted weight of 56.5kg when no other rider was available. Jockey L. Miller was reprimanded under AR190(3) for accepting a ride when subsequently overweight. LORD LOBSTER – A post-race veterinary examination revealed an injury to the near-hind fetlock which required veterinary treatment. Trainer C. Baker was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again. Race 4: BUSTER & LORRAINE SCHMIDT MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP (1200m) PASS THE CARD – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. SACRED STREAM – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. BAUHINIA BEANS – Began awkwardly. AURIC GOLD – Rider L. Miller was permitted to ride 1kg over the allotted weight of 56kg when no other rider was available. Jockey L. Miller was reprimanded under AR190(3) for accepting a ride when subsequently overweight. Race 5: DARBY MCCARTHY MEMORIAL OPEN PLATE (1400m) LORD SMEDLEY – Raced wide and without cover in the early stages. TYCOON ZIP – Apprentice S. McCann was reprimanded under AR132(6)(ii) for using her whip on six occasions, one more than permitted. TIDAL RUSH – Very slow to begin, and subsequently tailed the field throughout. Performed below expectations. Apprentice D. Stanley could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance other than that the gelding failed to travel throughout. Trainer G. Bignell expressed disappointment with the performance and could offer no explanation other than the gelding may not have handled racing on a dirt track for the first occasion. He further undertook to report back on the gelding’s post-race condition in the coming days. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
