After taking evidence from Mr G Bignell, Trainer of both horses, it was established that Mr Bignell had mistakenly saddled DREYFUS instead WITHOUT SHAME, and then presented that gelding to the mounting yard. The error was detected by the Stewards checking the brands and marking of all runners presented to the mounting yard. When considering the matter, Stewards took into account the circumstances leading up to the race meeting, which included but was not limited to, the buildup of flood waters in the area, the decision on raceday morning to change the venue of the race meeting, Mr Bignell’s unblemished record in this area over a long period of training and Mr Bignell’s personal circumstances. Mr Bignell was advised a monetary penalty would normally be applied to such a serious offence, however; given the special circumstances outlined and the assistance of all licensees to enable the meeting to proceed, he was reprimanded. As there was sufficient time, Mr Bignell was permitted to saddle WITHOUT SHAME and present the gelding for the race.KARBORS Raced wide in the early stages.
