Race 2: Careflight South West Open H’cap – 1000m
On return to scale a protest was lodged by Trainer B. Andrew, rider of the 3rd place getter, CHARGE MISSILE, against G’DAY OLD MATE being declared 2nd, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After viewing the film, and taking evidence from all relative parties, stewards established that over the concluding stages, G’DAY OLD MATE shifted out under pressure, making heavy contact with CHARGE MISSILE, causing that runner to be unbalanced and lose momentum. Bearing in mind the significance of the bump and narrow margin between both horses at the conclusion of the event, stewards upheld the protest and declared correct weight on the Judge’s amended placing’s: No. 8 – JEPTOO – 1ST No. 2 – CHARGE MISSILE – 2nd No. 1 – G’DAY OLD MATE – 3rd No. 3 – PERFORMIA – 4th.
FORETOKEN – Jumped in the air at the start. Stewards questioned jockey N. Evans as to whether there was an opportunity to improve to the inside of G’DAY OLD MATE in the early stages of the home straight, which would have afforded him clear running for the duration of the home straight rather than shifting to the outside of that runner, which resulted in him being held up over the concluding stages. Jockey Evans advised that turning for home he was unaware that a run presented itself to the inside of G’DAY OLD MATE and therefore elected, to shift to the outside to improve, however having had to the opportunity to review the film, he agreed with stewards it would have been more beneficial to take advantage of the run which presented to the inside rather than shift to the outside as he did. Stewards however were not of the view that jockey Evans’ actions were culpable under the rules and therefore took the matter not further.

Reynolds will be contacted in the coming days regarding the horse’s post-race recovery.
PARADISE PINK – Apprentice T. Brooker reported on return to scale that her mount felt awkward in its action over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

In assessing penalty, stewards took into account App. Phillips’ very poor record regarding breaches of this rule.
Race 6: Wideland AG and Case IH Open H'cap – 1400m
JUST AS LOYAL – Stewards accepted the explanation tendered for the late declaration of rider for the horse. Refused to jump at the start and took no part in the race. Stewards informed trainer M. Callaghan he would be required to barrier trial the horse prior to racing again.

Race 8: Mort And Co BenchMark 55 H'cap – 1788m
