STEWARDS REPORT

DALBY AMATEUR PICNIC RACE CLUB

SATURDAY 29 APRIL 2017

WEATHER – FINE            TRACK RATING – GOOD 3        RAIL – TRUE

OFFICIALS

Chairman of Stewards – R. Hitchener
Stewards – J. Childs, L. Carvosso, E. Hodges
Betting Steward –Stewards
Clerk of Scales – S. Fahey
Judge – J. Moody
Veterinarian – K. Kelly
Swab Attendants – A. Jones
Starter – I. Henderson
Jockey Advocate – K. Waller

Race 1: WARREGO WATER QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M

The start of this race was delayed when REDEX proved difficult to load.

FAIR SET – Began awkwardly. Stewards questioned apprentice N. Keal as to whether there was an opportunity to improve to the inside of REDEX over the concluding stages where there appeared to be sufficient room to do so rather than shifting to the outside of that runner to secure clear running. Apprentice Keal advised he had initially attempted to improve to the inside of REDEX, however his mount, in his opinion, had a tendency to lay out and for that reason he elected to shift to the outside to improve. Apprentice Keal, having had the opportunity to view the patrol footage in the presence of apprentice advocate Mr K. Waller, agreed that the racing manners of FAIR SET would not have impeded his attempts to improve to the inside of REDEX and therefore he had erred in not taking advantage of that run. Stewards however bearing in mind his inexperience as an apprentice jockey at a provincial venue, took the matter no further.

RED HEAVY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

REDEX – Tightened for room at the start and again shortly after the start.

AQUIVER – Tightened for room shortly after the start.

LIL RUBY ROSE – Held up rounding the home turn and was steadied when disappointed for a run near the 200m.

Race 2: BLACK TOYOTA MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M

SUPERVISOR – Knuckled on jumping away.

SWITCH AT MIDNIGHT – Trainer R. Smith was fined $100 for the late addition of blinkers to the horse’s gear. Improved into a run where there was doubtful room near the 500m and as a result was steadied by its rider.

GOOD GRACIOUS MAE – Bumped at the start.

ROYAL BOUQUET – Tightened for room on jumping away.

LIPS ‘N HIPS – Steadied from heels near the 500m.

RIPPER REEBA – Bumped at the start.

Race 3: CAMM AGRICULTURAL GROUP CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1200M

TRUE JOY – Improved on to heels at the 900m and was steadied. Raced wide throughout. L. Tilley reported that his mount hung out from the 600m.

HIGH DEGREE – Tightened for room on jumping away. Steadied from heels at the 500m. Stewards questioned trainer R. Smith regarding the noticeable betting drift in relation to HIGH DEGREE. Ms Smith advised that the mare had worked well in preparation for today’s first-up event. She added that the mare had two jump-outs leading into today’s event, the first of which, in her opinion, was only average, however she was of the belief that the mare had trialled better on the second occasion. Ms Smith added that the mare had not missed any work in preparation for today’s event and despite having a poor first-up record previously, she expected a forward showing today. Stewards noted the explanation.

SHEZ OUR DESTINY – Tightened on jumping away.

THE EQUINE BOLT – Raced wide throughout.

VON BRAUN – Reared in the enclosure, dislodging the rider and again reared, dislodging the jockey, upon entering the track. A warning was issued against the horse’s manners.

Race 4: LOWES PETROLEUM BENCHMARK 60 H'CAP – 1400M

MICKEY DAZZLER – Declared a late scratching at 2:15 pm by order of stewards after taking charge of the rider during the preliminary and galloping a considerable distance before being restrained by the rider. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on MICKEY DAZZLER be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

19 cents in the dollar for the Win #1
16 cents in the dollar for place of winner #1
15 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #7
14 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #4

SP bets were not subject to deductions.

No racing incidents.

Race 5: PORT OF BRISBANE OPEN H'CAP – 1400M

SUN WILL SHINE – N. Evans could offer no explanation for the horse’s disappointing performance.

CASHINKO – Raced wide throughout.

STREET SAVVY – Held up for clear running and was unable to improve approaching and rounding the home turn.

KING LUDWIG – Raced wide throughout.

Race 6: CARLTON MID OPEN H'CAP – 1000M

STARWOOD – Tightened for room near the 500m, checked and relinquished its position. J. Oliver, the rider of INVITTO, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that at that point he permitted his mount to shift in for some distance, resulting in the interference. J. Oliver’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 10 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 6 May and expire at midnight on Tuesday 16 May 2017.

WRITTENINTHERAIN – Tightened for room at the start.

AWESOME SIGHT – Tightened for room at the start.

GO GET SUM – Rider T. Banks was fined $100 for returning to scale overweight. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account his good record.

LONELY HEARTS CLUB – Tightened for room at the start.

GLENBAWNS DUTCHESS – Began awkwardly. Buffeted between runners near the 800m.

CHAMPAGNE KISSES – Bumped on jumping away.

SLALOM – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Jockey N Tomizawa could off no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance of the horse which he advised never travelled strongly on the bit at any stage of the event.

TEMUJIN’S CHOICE – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.

MARLAHN – Tightened for room at the start.

BAY DREAMER – Tightened for room at the start.
