Bradley Appo, the rider of MISTER CALYPSO, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that at that point he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of A STELLAR CAUSE, resulting in interference to other runners. Jockey Appo’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 16 days, to commence at midnight on Tuesday 11 July and expire at midnight on Thursday 27 July 2017. As Trainer J. Hearne had left the track he was contacted by stewards to return to the course so that a veterinary examination could be performed. Veterinary examination revealed the presence of a small amount of blood in both nostrils however, the identification of this blood was attributed to external trauma following the horse being fractious in the barriers prior to the event. Trainer J. Hearne was questioned in relation to his failure to report the matter to stewards. Mr Hearne stated that prior to leaving the stable the mare had exhibited no signs of bleeding, however conceded a small amount of blood was present upon his arrival back to the stables. Jokic was questioned regarding the reason she allowed her mount to shift from a position one out and one back to a three-wide position near the 900m. She said that the horse commenced to overrace passing the 1000m and therefore she elected to let the horse stride forward near the 800m, rather than overly restrain it to maintain its position however shortly after obtaining a position outside the leader the gelding was under pressure and failed to run on as she expected. Stewards noted her explanation. RHIATENN ROAD – Had to be steadied to avoid the heels of another runner when shifting out to improve near the 400m. Keal as to whether there was an opportunity for him to go forward near the 800m and cross runners to his inside. N.
