Race 1: DALBY DIEHARDS ‘A’ GRADE 2017 TRL PREMIERS QTIS 3YO H’CAP (800M) KEEN INSTINCT – Began awkwardly and raced greenly throughout. Steadied from heels for some distance approaching the 400m. Lost the near-fore plate in running. LOVESON – Bumped on the hindquarters on jumping away and, as a result, became unbalanced. BIDAFLARE – Began awkwardly. TWO PLUS TWO – Tightened for room at the start. Stewards questioned jockey R. Williams in relation to her racing away from the fence during the race which enabled the eventual winner to secure clear running to her inside rounding the home turn. Jockey Williams advised that her instructions from Trainer M. Kropp were to attempt to race away from the fence, particularly near the 600m, as he felt that the fence may have been inferior going due to the prevailing track conditions. Mr. Kropp confirmed the instructions. Stewards noted the explanation. Jockey Williams further reported that, in her opinion, the filly was making an abnormal breathing noise when pulling up. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Race 2: DALBY LEAGUES CLUB MAIDEN H’CAP – 1400M QUIERO – Raced wide without cover throughout. CARD TRICKS – Steadied after being placed in restricted room by PIGINARKI (R. Williams) shortly after passing the winning post. Jockey R. Williams was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future. PIGINARKI – Steadied from heels near the 500m and lost ground when PROLETAIRE (App. R. Goldsbury) shifted in when not completely clear. Apprentice R. Goldsbury was reprimanded as a result of this incident. STORMY HELEN – Began awkwardly. THE LAST ROAD – Stewards accepted Trainer K. Miller’s explanation for the late declaration of M. Gray as rider. Steadied near the 500m. PIPEMAJOR – Began awkwardly. Improved onto heels near the 500m and was steadied. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn. RUBY RED SLIPPERS – Stewards accepted Trainer L. Hatch’s explanation for the late declaration of N. Tomizawa as rider. Bumped shortly after the start. SCHWARZY – Slow into stride. Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to a Heavy 8. Race 3: DALBY DIEHARDS ‘C’ GRADE 2017 TRL PREMIERS C’BALL FLYING OPEN H’CAP – 1000M WELL SIGHTED – Bumped by another runner over the concluding stages. TIMETUS – Began awkwardly. CASH’N’RUN – Tightened for room at the start. Hung out rounding the home turn. Jockey R. Goltz could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. ARCHIE’S SON – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with another runner. SHE’S A KICKER – Slow to begin. Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to a Soft 7. Race 5: R & F STEEL BUILDINGS DALBY CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1300M The start of this race was delayed when HERRSCHAFT proved difficult to load. SAN VINCENZO – Shifted out rounding the home turn in an endeavour to secure clear running and, as a result, bumped another runner. BRED FOR LUCK – Bumped by another runner rounding the home turn. WULFIES LADY – Apprentice H. Phillips reported to Stewards that her mount overraced throughout. AMBER’S GIRL – The mare turned its head into the adjacent barrier after the start was effected and, as a result, lost considerable ground. Stewards questioned Apprentice D. Graham in relation to the tactics adopted on the mare from leaving the 1000m, after the mare had lost considerable ground at the start. Apprentice Graham advised that prior to the race she was of the view that the mare would race in a forward position as it has previously raced best when ridden in this manner. She added that, for that reason, after maintaining contact with the body of the field near the 900m, she elected to ride forward on the mare in an endeavour to secure a forward position as per her pre-race plan. After having had the opportunity to review the Stewards patrol footage, Apprentice Graham agreed with Stewards that she had erred in failing to maintain a trailing position behind the eventual winner, BRED FOR LUCK, from near the 900m which would have given her mount a better run for the remainder of the race, particularly having regard to the work she was required to do on the mare after losing considerable ground at the start. Stewards advised Apprentice Graham that the manner in which she rode the horse fell below the required standard at provincial meetings however, bearing in mind her relative inexperience as an apprentice rider, they took the matter no further other than to refer this ride to the Queensland Racing Apprentice Training Department. Race 6: DERRICK BRADY 2018 ‘A’ GRADE COACH BENCHMARK 58 H’CAP – 1200M MR CHOW – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. TRY ‘N’ CATCH ME – Began awkwardly, shifted out, bumped another runner and lost ground. DRUM MASTER – Bumped at the start. CASSE BLEU – Stewards will question Trainer M. Nolan in relation to the improved performance of the mare at a later date as he was not present at the meeting today. Race 7: DALBY DEVILS U12 2017 TRL PREMIERS BENCHMARK 58 H’CAP – 1788M Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards considered an application by jockey S. Bogenhuber to have LEGS UNBARRED declared a non-runner on the basis that the mare was denied a fair start as a result of its barrier being slow to open. After viewing the Stewards patrol footage it was established that the horse’s barrier was slow to open which resulted in the mare losing considerable ground at the start. Stewards therefore declared the mare a non-runner acting under the provisions of AR. 134A. On the declaration of correct weight all monies invested on the horse were ordered to be refunded, with the following deductions to apply: 9 cents in the dollar for the Win #110 cents in the dollar for place of winner #117 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #521 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #7 Starting prices subject to deductions. WICKED TRILOGY – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn. CAPTAINS WAY – Stewards questioned Apprentice D. Graham in relation to the horse’s seemingly disappointing performance. Apprentice Graham advised that it was the intention for the horse to be ridden in a forward position however when the horse failed to muster sufficient speed to cross the runners to her inside, she was forced to settle further back than anticipated. She added that the horse travelled comfortably throughout, however failed to improve into the race as she had anticipated from the 600m and proved disappointing. Stewards noted the explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. BRUBAKER – Slow to begin. WAITING GAME – Raced wide without cover from the 800m.
