Following the running of Race 3, jockey K. Yoshida was stood down from his remaining engagements due to illness, and riding replacements were made in Races 5 and 6 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1: FERMOUR PLUMBING BENCHMARK 58 H’CAP – 2000M
LITTLE MISS MONACO, which became fractious in its float when being transported to the course, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start.
The start of this race was delayed when CLOWN IN THE MOON proved difficult to load. Trainer Mr. M. Hemmings was advised that a warning will be placed on the mare’s barrier manners.
THE BARRACUDA – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with the inside barrier partition, resulting in the rider becoming unbalanced.
SILENT FLYER – Held up approaching and passing the 400m.
STAR STRUCKED – Began awkwardly, resulting in the rider becoming unbalanced. When questioned by Stewards regarding the performance, Apprentice J. Hodge reported that his mount travelled well when able to obtain the lead, which is its customary racing pattern, however when placed under pressure leaving the 600m the gelding failed to respond and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a laceration, and to be lame, in the off fore leg. Trainer Mr. G. Cornish was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
ALFIE JUNIOR – Turned its head as the start was effected, began awkwardly and, as a result, lost ground.
CLOWN IN THE MOON – Jockey S. Bogenhuber reported that the mare overraced in the early stages. Laid in in the home straight.
Race 2: OUR LADY OF THE SOUTHERN CROSS COLLEGE QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1000M
THE BUMBLEBEE, which arrived late on course due to transport difficulties, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start.
The declaration of correct weight was initially delayed to allow the connections of the dead-heating runners for 2nd place to view the photo finish print.
Correct weight was further delayed when Stewards inquired into the dead-heat for 2nd place. After viewing the photo finish print, and taking evidence from the connections of both horses and the Judge, Stewards were satisfied that there was in fact a margin between JUST FAVULOUS and MISHANI KRISHNA, and correct weight was declared on the amended numbers as follows: 1st WELCOME NUGGET, 2nd JUST FAVULOUS, 3rd MISHANI KRISHNA, 4th COSSIE.
JUST FAVULOUS – Jockey E. Ljung reported that, after blundering badly at the start, her mount settled further back in the field than anticipated.
COSSIE – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages and bumped THE BUMBLEBEE.
WELCOME NUGGET – Trainer Mr. M. Nolan was fined $100 for failing to produce the horse’s Thoroughbred Identification Card.
CAUGHT REDHANDED – Slow to begin.
LOGSPLITTER – Bounded at the start and lost ground.
SPLENDID SPIRIT – Commenced to overrace near the 900m, and had to be steadied from the heels of THE BUMBLEBEE, which shifted in. Placed in restricted room over the concluding stages and, as a result, was unable to be tested to the finish.
Race 3: HENRY FAMILY OPEN H’CAP – 1000M
HARD STRIDE, which kicked the fence upon entering the track, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination upon arriving at the barriers which revealed that the gelding had cast its off hind plate. After being replated, the gelding was cleared to take its place in the field.
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow jockey S. Bogenhuber, the rider of the 2nd placegetter, I AM THE GENERAL, to view the photo-finish print for 1st. After viewing the print, she was satisfied with the Judge’s semaphored numbers.
HARD STRIDE – Jockey E. Ljung was fined $200 for using the whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.
ISIS MAGIC – A post-race veterinary examination of the mare, which lead and then weakened over the concluding stages, revealed no significant findings.
WELL SIGHTED – Began awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and, as a result, made contact with I AM THE GENERAL.
KLAMMER – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
HIGH COST – Began awkwardly and was steadied from heels a short distance later. Raced wide throughout.
SEQ THE STAR – Began awkwardly.
SWEET REPEAT – Began awkwardly. Commenced to overrace for a short distance near the 800m whilst being restrained to obtain cover.
Race 4: ERGON ENERGY PLOUGH INN CUP – 1400M
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow jockey Beau Appo and trainer Mr. M. Lakey, the connections of 2nd placegetter ABSTAIN, to view the Stewards' patrol footage to ascertain whether there were grounds to lodge an objection against 1st placegetter NOREENA (N. Tomizawa). After viewing the film, the connections indicated that they did not wish to proceed and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s semaphored numbers.
SCHMIZO – Slow to begin.
ABSTAIN – Jockey B. Appo was fined $100 for using his whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.
SNAP AND GO – Shifted out abruptly shortly after the start. Commenced to weaken near the 500m, and was checked when tightened for room and then shifted out abruptly across the heels of FOXLEIGH (G. Geran). At that same point, NOREENA (N. Tomizawa), which was following SNAP AND GO was severely hampered and forced wider on the track, and ABSTAIN (Beau Appo), which was racing wide, was also forced wider on the track and inconvenienced. When questioned by Stewards regarding the performance of SNAP AND GO, jockey E. Ljung expressed her disappointment and advised that the mare blundered on a couple of occasions between the 1000m and 600m. She added that the mare was disappointing in its finishing performance when placed under pressure from the 600m.
FOXLEIGH – Blundered of its own accord near the 800m.
Race 5: DALBY MACHINERY CENTRE DALBY CUP OPEN H’CAP – 1400M
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards permitted the connections of CHARLIE CAT to view the photo finish print for 2nd. After viewing the print, the connections were satisfied with the Judge’s semaphored numbers.
MARENOSTRO – Checked near the 500m. Jockey N. Tomizawa, the rider of APOLOBOOM, pleaded guilty to a charge of carless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 500m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of MARENOSTRO (App. H. Phillips) resulting in that runner being tightened between his mount and ZIP TO THE MOON (App. R. Goldsbury), which in turn resulted in MARENOSTRO having to be checked at that point. Jockey Tomizawa’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 2 September 2018 and expire at midnight on Monday 10 September 2018. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Tomizawa’s guilty plea and his prior good record in relation to this rule.
GOLDEN SHOES – Began awkwardly and made contact with ZIP TO THE MOON, and then had to be steadied from the heels of CHARLIE CAT.
ROSIE POSIE – Slow to begin. Apprentice S. Sweeney reported that her mount dipped on several occasions between the 1000m and 600m.
ZIP TO THE MOON – Tightened for room at the start.
BRAX – Tightened for room at the start.
Race 6: DALBY LEAGUES CLUB #BETONBIRDSVILLE FILLIES & MARES BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1200M
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view the patrol footage to determine whether RAIN ON ME had been afforded a fair start. After taking evidence from jockey Beau Appo and the starter, Mr. I. Henderson, Stewards were of the view that the horse had been afforded a fair start and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s semaphored numbers.
DANGEROUS DANICA – Steadied near the 700m when placed in restricted room to the inside of APPLAUSE A STAR which shifted in.
RAIN ON ME – Jockey Beau Appo lost the use of his iron as the start was effected and, as a result, the mare took no competitive part in the race.
RELNINO – Apprentice Z. White reported that her mount put in a couple of awkward strides in the home straight and as she was concerned that the mare had sustained an injury, she was reluctant to place the horse under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be stepping short in both front legs. Trainer Mr. P. Webster will be advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
APPLAUSE A STAR – Raced wide throughout.
SOLO ARTIST – Slow to begin.

Race 7: DALBY GENERAL STEEL COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1200M
The start of this race was delayed when TOCCO D’ORO lost a plate which had to be refitted upon arriving at the barriers.
