Race 1: ST MARY’S CLASS OF ‘74 MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M
 
CHECKMATE KING – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
SCARAMOUCHE – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid in in the home straight.
 
ASTROBABY – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.
 
HEY DOLL – Held up and unable to improve for a considerable distance approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
Race 2: CAMM AGRICULTURAL GROUP MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M
 
The start of this race was delayed when AKLAVIK proved reluctant to proceed to the barriers.
 
The start was further delayed when POSTER MAN, which became fractious on entering the enclosure, was examined by the veterinary surgeon upon arriving at the barriers and passed fit to start.
 
POSTER MAN – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
AKLAVIK – Hung out leaving the 800m and took no competitive part in the race from that point. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer G. Schrader was advised that the gelding must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.
 
ASKARI – Slow to begin.
 
FOLLY OVER – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
LASHONI – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
MALEFIC – Steadied near the 400m when LASHONI (A. Fancourt) shifted out to improve. A. Fancourt was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future.
 
CAUGHT REDHANDED – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
Race 3: MORT & CO OPEN H’CAP – 1000M
 
PRIME TARGET – Broke down rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had sustained a significant injury to its off-fore leg. Trainer G. Richardson was advised that the gelding will require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.
 
WHYCATCHIM – Reared as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Trainer B. Currie was advised that the gelding will require a further barrier certificate prior to next racing.
 
ELJETEM – Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
As Apprentice H. English was unable to fulfil her remaining engagements in Races 4, 5 and 7 due to personal reasons, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
Race 4: QUBE LOGISTICS BENCHMARK 62 H’CAP – 1000M
 
MAC’S BOY – Bumped at the start. Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
GODFATHER’S GIRL – Bumped at the start.
 
NO REFUND – Hung out for the majority. Apprentice A. Thompson reported that his saddle shifted rounding the home turn. Trainer P. Hulbert was advised that the colt must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.
 
HELLO SPIRIT – Slow to begin.
 
MIRACLE STAR – Forced wider on the track near the 600m by NO REFUND which was hanging out and, as a result, jockey S. Apthorpe had to take hold of his mount and shift back to the inside near the 400m.
 
Race 5: WESTERN TRUCK GROUP QTIS 3YO BENCHMARK 62 H’CAP – 1200M
 
HEKANSPLIT – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
FINNFERNO – Reared as the start was effected and lost some ground.
 
SPARTAN JET – Tightened for room on jumping away. Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.
 
FISH BURGER – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Bumped by another runner at the point of the home turn.
 
UNO AMOR – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
DIARIST – Tightened for room on jumping away. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Steadied from heels near the 600m.
 
VANZANT – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout. Bumped by another runner near the 1000m. Raced wide rounding the home turn.
 
Race 6: CARLTON AND UNITED BREWERIES CLASS 3 PLATE – 1400M
 
I’M FAVULOUS – Slow to begin.
 
THERE’S NEMO – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
THE DANGER – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off-fore and off-hind legs. Trainer’s representative, Mr. L. Hatch, was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.

SMOKEY DIAMOND – Buffeted on a number of occasions passing the 200m when DINISTY (J. Oliver) shifted out whilst being ridden under pressure. Jockey Oliver was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future.
 
GREAT POWERS – Inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.
 
Race 7: MCINNES WILSON LAWYERS DALBY PICNICS CUP OPEN H’CAP – 1400M
 
GREY STEYNE – Steadied from heels near the 1000m.
 
WINE BARREL – Brushed the running rail near the 600m.
 
LANDALE – Steadied from heels near the 400m.
 
Race 8: DALBY SHOPPING WORLD BENCHMARK 62 H’CAP – 1788M
 
The start of this race was delayed when PERSISTENT SHADOW became fractious and reared in the barriers resulting in its hind leg being caught in the barrier partition. Jockey C. Eaton sustained a minor injury to her right leg as a result of this incident. The mare was subsequently declared a late scratching at 4.58pm. Following the race, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on PERSISTENT SHADOW be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

5 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #6
5 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #4
 
LITTLE RED DEVIL – Clipped heels and blundered after being tightened for room over the concluding stages between ANIMAL INSTINCT (App. S. Sweeney) which shifted out and DELANEY’S DESIRE (App. H. Phillips) which shifted in.
 
Apprentice S. Sweeney, the rider of ANIMAL INSTINCT, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 131(a) in that over the concluding stages she permitted her mount to shift out which contributed to LITTLE RED DEVIL being tightened for room, clipping heels and blundering. Apprentice Sweeney’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 6 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 4 May 2019 and expire at midnight on Friday 10 May 2019. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration Apprentice Sweeney’s guilty plea and were also mindful that her actions were not the sole contributing factor to the interference.
 
Apprentice H. Phillips, the rider of DELANEY’S DESIRE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 131(a) in that over the concluding stages she permitted her mount to shift in which contributed to LITTLE RED DEVIL being tightened for room, clipping heels and blundering. Apprentice Phillips’ licence to ride in races was suspended for 6 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 4th May 2019 and expire at midnight on Friday 10 May 2019. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration Apprentice Phillips’ guilty plea and were also mindful that her actions were not the sole contributing factor to the interference.
 
MENDELSSOHN – Steadied from heels near the 1400m.
 
HARADIFY – Began awkwardly.
 
GRATSIE – When attempting to shift out to secure clear running near the 400m, clipped the heels of MENDELSSOHN and blundered resulting in Apprentice A. Thompson being dislodged from the gelding in a seemingly harmless fall. Nevertheless, Apprentice A. Thompson was advised that he will require a medical clearance prior to resuming riding.
 
SKYLIGHT – Blundered at the start.
 
DELANEY’S DESIRE – Raced wide without cover throughout.
