As Apprentice S. Wilcox was indisposed due to illness, riding replacements were made in Races 4, 6 and 7 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: RACE CLUB LIFE MEMBERS QTIS 2YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M

GENTLE PRINCE – Raced 3 wide without cover in the early and middle stages.

WALLY’S DREAM – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground.

Race 2: KELLY/HENRY LOOKOUT DECK CLASS 3 H’CAP – 2000M

The start of this race was delayed when YOUL BEATEM underwent a veterinary examination at the request of its rider upon arriving at the barriers. YOUL BEATEM was subsequently declared a late scratching at 12.58pm on veterinary advice. All monies invested on the gelding were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

0 cents in the dollar for the Win #3
2 cents in the dollar for place of winner #3
1 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #2

Trainer R. Drysdale was advised that YOUL BEATEM will require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.

STRYKING EMERALD – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Steadied from heels and shifted wider on the track near the winning post on the first occasion.

SWING SHIFT – Shifted out abruptly when passing the winning post on the first occasion.

MORNING FARE – Forced wider on the track by another running when exiting the home straight on the first occasion.

Race 3: NEW MEMBERS BAR & DECK MAIDEN H’CAP – 800M

The start of this race was delayed to enable the starter to reposition the false start light.

The start of this race was further delayed to enable a bridle and gear adjustment to be made to TISAYAC which was proving difficult to load.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed when jockey S. Bogenhuber, the rider of CHEESIE, initially weighed in 800g underweight. When questioned at the scales, jockey Bogenhuber advised that the gel pad with which she had weighed out was missing from her gear. Upon examination, the gel pad was located in the mounting yard at the location where the mare was unsaddled following the event. Upon re-weighing with the gel pad, jockey Bogenhuber weighed in at her allotted weight. As Stewards were satisfied that the mare had carried its allotted weight during the race, correct weight was declared on the judge’s numbers.

MAGICAL MAN – Began awkwardly and bumped the hindquarters of DANINA.

NEPTUNE’S BOUNTY – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.

LEICA SPECIAL – Trainer L. Berger was fined $100 for failing to produce the horse’s Thoroughbred Identification Card. Shifted in rounding the home turn and bumped another runner.

CHEESIE – Slow to begin. Shifted in abruptly shortly after the start. When questioned by Stewards regarding the seemingly disappointing performance, jockey S. Bogenhuber advised that after beginning poorly the mare failed to respond under hard riding throughout. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no apparent abnormalities.

SOMEBODY LOVES YOU – Declared a late scratching at 12.45pm on veterinary advice. Trainer M. Dunn will be advised that the mare will require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.

DANINA – Bumped shortly after the start. Bumped by another runner to its outside rounding the home turn. Laid out in the home straight.

OUT FOX’EM – Began awkwardly.

Race 4: BOOK YOUR PARTY ON THE DECK MAIDEN H’CAP – 800M

DONKEY KONG – Declared a late scratching at 10.00am on veterinary advice.

MOCATTA – Began awkwardly.

BEACH CLUB – Forced wider on the track leaving the 500m and then steadied from heels for a short distance.

FRENCH VIDA – Began awkwardly.

MISS MACPHERSON – Began awkwardly and made contact with the barrier partition. Made the home turn awkwardly. Steadied from heels approaching the 400m. Had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching and passing the 200m.

Race 5: FAST TRACK MAIDEN H’CAP – 1300M

The start of this race was delayed to enable a bandage to be refitted to MY MATE VINNY upon arriving at the barriers.

SAVILE ROW – Stewards accepted the explanation provided by trainer W. Newton regarding the late declaration of E. Ljung was rider.

MY MATE VINNY – Began awkwardly. Steadied from heels approaching the 100m and shifted out abruptly. When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance, trainer P. Butterworth advised that he was at a loss to explain the performance today. He added that in light of the performance, he will arrange for the horse to be examined by a veterinary surgeon upon returning to the stables, the results of which he will report to Stewards. He went on to say that he will also give consideration to sending the horse for a spell.

MADAME TESS – Tightened for room at the start.

REG ‘N’ KATH – Began awkwardly and lost ground. After leaving the chute near the 900m, shifted to a position inside the line of the running rail and, when joining the course proper, had to be checked when placed in restricted room.

ROCK EASY – Raced ungenerously in the middle stages.

BEAVER LODGE – Began awkwardly. Hung out from leaving the 800m. Apprentice C. Bayliss reported that his saddle slipped back shortly after the start and, as a result, he was unable to ride his mount out throughout. Trainer K. Jones was advised that the mare must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no apparent abnormalities.

Race 6: PLOUGH INN CUP BEER GARDEN COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1100M

After all runners were loaded into the barriers, a barrier malfunction occurred resulting in the barriers opening prematurely. Immediately following the barriers opening, the starter enacted the false start alert system. As Stewards were satisfied that the starter had not effected the start and that a false start had occurred, they declared a no race. As the majority of the field had completed a full circuit of the track, and due to time constraints, Stewards further determined that re-running the event later in the day would be impractical.

Race 7: DALBY & NORTHERN DOWNS JOCKEY CLUB FILLIES AND MARES BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1100M

The start of this race was delayed when MISS MAKEPEACE took charge of its rider during the preliminary and galloped a considerable distance before being restrained. The horse was subsequently declared a late scratching by Stewards at 4.04pm. Following the event, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on MISS MAKEPEACE be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

13 cents in the dollar for the win #8
11 cents in the dollar for place of winner #8
16 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #9
11 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #6

The start of this race was further delayed to enable MY COUSIN BABY to be resaddled upon arriving at the barriers.

RUN PAM RUN – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance, jockey L. McCoy advised that, in her opinion, the horse travelled well throughout but failed to carry the increased weight today compared to its previous start. Stewards noted the explanation.

MY COUSIN BABY – Proved difficult to load. Began awkwardly and made contact with the barrier partition. Upon return to scale, Apprentice M. Wishart advised that she was experiencing discomfort in her right foot as a result of this incident. Laid out for the majority. Trainer K. Kirwin will be advised that a warning will be placed on the mare’s barrier manners.

GLITTER TOP – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Steadied from heels leaving the 800m.

Race 9: RACE CLUB COMMITTEE BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1400M

Apprentice T. Townsend, the rider of MAGIC MYSTERY, was fined $200 under AR. 188(c) in that she weighed out without a safety vest. In determining penalty, Stewards acknowledged  that Apprentice Townsend had brought the oversight to the attention of Stewards well prior to the horse’s entering the enclosure. Stewards also took into consideration that Apprentice Townsend was not attempting to gain any weight advantage, and the error was merely an oversight.

Race 10: SEE YOU AGAIN ON 1ST FEBRUARY BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1400M

MAXWELL – Shifted in under pressure in the home straight causing tightening to the runners to its inside over the concluding stages. Jockey B. Andrew, the rider of MAXWELL, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future.

FOXLEIGH – Raced keenly for a short distance leaving the 800m.

PRINCESS CAVALLO – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages contributing to the tightening to runners to its outside. Apprentice A. Thompson, the rider of PRINCESS CAVALLO, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

ROCK ME HUSSEY – Began awkwardly. Jockey E. Ljung was fined $300 for excessive use of the whip prior to 100m. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Ljung’s prior good record in relation to this rule and were also mindful that she was returning from injury.
