Missen, the rider of BELLA’S BROTHER, was fined $200 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. Race 1: AUSTRALIAN AND NEW ZEALAND ARMY CORPS QTIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M The start of this race was delayed when GEM SETTER and MISS CRUISEY underwent veterinary examinations behind the barriers. Both runners were passed fit to start. ABITOFACARD – Shifted out on jumping making contact with another runner to its outside. Shifted out at the 800m forcing another runner to shift out across heels to obtain clear running. MINTY BOY – Shifted in approaching the 800m placing a runner to its inside in restricted room. OUR SPIDER – Tailed off at the 800m and took no competitive part in the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be exhibiting a slow post-race recovery. Trainer S. Neylon was advised that a warning will be placed on the gelding. GEM SETTER – Slow to begin. KELSEY LAKE – Raced in restricted room when MINTY BOY shifted in approaching the 800m and, as a result, had to be restrained and clipped heels and blundered. Apprentice T. Townsend, the rider of MINTY BOY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 131(a) in that approaching the 800m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of KELSEY LAKE which resulted in that runner being restrained when placed in restricted room, and then clipping heels and blundering. Apprentice T. Townsend’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days, commencing at midnight on Saturday 25 April 2020 and concluding at midnight on Wednesday 6 May 2020. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration Apprentice Townsend’s guilty plea and her prior good record in relation to this rule. MISS CRUISEY – Jumped with its head in the air and lost ground. Steadied from heels at the 800m and shifted wider on the track. Race 2: LIGHT UP THE DAWN QTIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M The start of this race was delayed when POGO and MISS PIXIE proved difficult to load. DISCO DOUGIE – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room when MISS HISSYFIT shifted in approaching the 700m. Jockey N. Morton, the rider of MISS HISSYFIT, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 131(a) in that she permitted her mount to shift in approaching the 700m when not completely clear. Jockey Morton was reprimanded as a result of this incident. In determining penalty, Stewards noted that jockey Morton has not previously been suspended for careless riding in her career, and therefore took into consideration her exemplary prior record in relation to this rule. POGO – Slow to begin. RECONCILED – As C. Bryen was unable to arrive on course to fulfil his engagement due to transport difficulties, B. Newport was substituted as rider. Laid out rounding the home turn. FIRST SLIP – Laid in in the early and middle stages. MISS ATOB – Raced in restricted room to the inside of FIRST SLIP near the 900m. MISS HISSYFIT – Bled both nostrils. Trainer B. Hudson was advised that the filly will be ineligible to race for 3 months and, prior to resuming racing, must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward. MISS PIXIE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Race 3: DAWN SERVICE BENCHMARK 45 H’CAP – 1100M The start of this race was delayed when SHELLY’S DREAM, which refused to load, was declared a late scratching by Stewards at 1.50pm. Trainer F. Carter was advised that SHELLY’S DREAM will require a further barrier certificate prior to next racing. The declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable Stewards to consider an application made by jockey H. Richardson and the connections of SPIRIT’S FIRST to have the mare declared a non-runner on the grounds that it had been denied a fair start. After viewing the patrol footage, Stewards found that whilst the barrier attendant did have hold of the mare’s head in the barriers, they were of the opinion that SPIRIT’S FIRST had become fractious just prior to the start being effected and, as a result, began awkwardly and lost ground. As Stewards were satisfied that the loss of ground suffered by SPIRIT’S FIRST at the start was solely attributable to the horse’s own barrier manners, they denied the application and deemed the horse a runner. ACCOUNTANT – Raced in restricted room for a short distance when COROGLEN shifted in approaching the 500m and, as a result, lost significant ground whilst being restrained. Jockey C. Bryen, the rider of COROGLEN, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 131(a) in that approaching the 500m he permitted his mount to shift in when not completely clear of ACCOUNTANT resulting in that runner racing in restricted room and losing significant ground whilst being restrained. Jockey C. Bryen’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days commencing at midnight on Saturday 25 April 2020 and concluding at midnight on Sunday 3 May 2020. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Bryen’s prior good record in relation to this rule. SPIRIT’S FIRST – Began awkwardly and made contact with the inside barrier partition and, as a result, lost ground. PRIMMISCUOUS – Slow to begin. Race 4: ODE OF REMEMBRANCE BENCHMARK 50 H’CAP – 1400M RULER’S PRIDE – Raced in restricted room for a short distance whilst weakening approaching the 150m. Pulled up by its rider shortly after the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had bled from both nostrils. Trainer S. Rodgers was advised that the gelding will be ineligible to race for 3 months and, prior to resuming racing, must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward. Mr. Rodgers advised that it is his intention to retire the gelding. GEISSLER – Raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages. SIDINA – Apprentice D. McGillivray was fined $200 for failing to claim his full allowance. Began awkwardly and lost ground.
