QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT DALBY & NORTHERN DOWNS JOCKEY CLUB DALBY – TUESDAY 24TH AUGUST 2021 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD 4 RAIL – +2.5 600m – 300m, TRUE REMAINDER PENETROMETER – N/A OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – B Cooke Stewards – J Childs, T North & P Jenkins Clerk of Scales – S Fahey Judge – I Thompson & K Hauff Veterinarian – Dr M Salter Swab Attendants – D McDonald Starter – C Wallace GENERAL Trainer B Gorman was reprimanded under LR36(6) for failing to withdraw dual acceptor SWAN ISLAND by the prescribed time. As C Meehan was unable to fulfil his engagement due to transport difficulties, stewards replaced him as per the race day summary. Race 1:TAB Class 3 Handicap 800 metres The start of this race was delayed approximately five minutes when VOX POPULI broke through the barriers and OUR BOY BORRIS became cast and was subsequently declared a late scratching. BAY OF DRAGONS – Bumped on jumping. Hung out rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a small laceration to the forehead. LEICA SPECIAL – Slipped behind on jumping and shortly after was bumped. Near the 700m was momentarily placed in restricted room when RURAL REBEL shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. Near the 400m was steadied when awkwardly placed on heels and was obliged to shift in to obtain clear running. VOX POPULI – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after breaking through the barriers and travelling a short distance and was passed suitable to start. TINDER – Hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight. RURAL REBEL – Rider K Yoshida reported that near the 700m his mount shied and shifted in despite his efforts at a discoloured patch of turf. OUR BOY BORRIS – Fractious in barriers and became cast. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was deemed unsuitable to start. Declared a late scratching at 12:22pm by stewards acting on veterinary advice. Upon the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on OUR BOY BORRIS be refunded with the following deductions to apply- 1st – 0 cents the win & 1 cent place. 2nd – 2 cents the place. Race 2:TAB OPEN Handicap 1400 metres BRYNEICH – Near the 1100 was bumped and placed restricted room when EDDIEGATO (App T Townsend) shifted out whilst racing keenly. App T Townsend was advised to exercise more care. MIRALIE – Raced keenly in the early stages. BUFFALO GIRL – Near the 1100m was forced wider when awkwardly placed on heels. EDDIEGATO – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 1100m whilst racing keenly shifted out and bumped with another runner. Near the 75m whilst laying in, momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed on heels of SISTINE AVENUE (C Jokic) which shifted out when insufficiently clear. C Jokic was advised to exercise more care. SISTINE AVENUE - Held up rounding the home turn. Race 3:TAB Maiden Plate 1400 metres BENT BENNY – Laid in throughout. Shifted out when placed under pressure in the home straight. FIORCAST – Shifted in under pressure in the home straight. ICE ELITE – Declared a late scratching at 1:29pm by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice after the gelding became cast in the barriers. Upon the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on ICE ELITE be refunded with the following deductions to apply- 1st – 22 cents the win & 18 cents the place. 2nd – 20 cents the place. 3rd – 19 cents the place. JIMMY NEUTRON – Near the 600m had to be steadied when BOND GIRL (L McCoy) shifted out when not sufficiently clear. L McCoy was reprimanded for carless riding under AR131(a) BOND GIRL – Leaving the 200m raced in restricted room and was forced to shift in across the heels of HIGH REWARDS when HIGH REWARDS shifted out marginally and PRITI PIPER shifted in marginally. HIGH REWARDS – Began awkwardly. PRITI PIPER – Bumped on jumping. Performed below market expectations. App A Jones reported that in mount failed to travel during early stages and failed to respond when placed under full pressure from the 600m. She further added that in her opinion the mare would be suited over a further distance then that of today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer M Frappell agreed with the comments of the rider and advised that he would consider spelling the mare. SINE CURVE – Approaching the winning post was steadied from the heels of FIORCAST (G Geran) which shifted in under riding. G Geran was reprimanded for careless riding under AR131(a). Race 4:TAB Colts, Geldings and Entires BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1200 metres ONE MORE PINOT – Began awkwardly. MISTER WARD – Near the 800m had to be steadied when BARLEY HUNTER (Bradley Appo) shifted in when not clear. Bradley Appo was advised to exercise more care. HALCYON DAYS – Rider G Steele was reprimanded under AR132(5) in that she used her whip on 15 occasions prior to the 100m. Improved performance queried. Trainer L Mawn advised that he had changed the geldings work from the sand to the grass. He further added that whilst the gelding had been working well, he was rather surprised by the improved performance. Stewards noted his comments. RUSSIAN ROMEO – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 900m had to be steadied when crossed by BARLEY HUNTER (Bradley Appo) which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Bradley Appo was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding. DRAGON PINS – Began very awkwardly and lost ground. ONE OF THE KIND – Near the 500m raced in restricted room when HALYCON DAYS shifted in marginally. BARLEY HUNTER – Jockey Bradley Appo was fined $300 under AR211(1) in that he returned to scale in excess of half a kilogram overweight. Race 5:TAB Colts, Geldings and Entires BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1200 metres Jockeys G Geran and G Steele were both reprimanded misconduct under AR115(1)(a) in that they engaged in a verbal altercation when returning to the mounting yard post-race. FEND OFF (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Bumped with another runner near the 850m. Performed below market expectations. Rider G Geran advised that the gelding was disappointing however it would derive benefit from todays run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. MY ZEBRINKA – Bumped on jumping. NOT LIABLE – Bumped near the 850m. Leaving the 450m raced in restricted room and was obliged to restrain and lost ground when FEND OFF(NZ) laid in despite the efforts of its rider. Jockey G Steele was fined $300 under AR211(1) in that she returned to scale in excess of half a kilogram overweight. LOVE YA BLUE – Raced ungenerously in the early stages. BILL OF RIGHTS – Stewards permitted replacement rider M Hellyer to ride the gelding half a kilogram over its declared weight of 55.5kgs. Began awkwardly and shifted out. Brushed the running rail near the 500m. WILD ELEMENT – Raced in restricted room rounding the home turn. BUSH SHINDIG – Raced three wide in the middle stages. Race 6:TAB Fillies and Mares BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1200 metres BOBBIE JO – Performed below market expectations. App Z Sprie advised that after being caught wide he went forward to obtain the lead. He added that the mare was inclined to over race and as a result failed to finish the race off as anticipated. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. DREAM ENTITY – Broke through the barriers and travelled a short distance before being recaptured. Approaching the 700m had to steadied when placed in restricted room. CHAMPAGNE SPIRIT – Approaching the 700m had to be checked to avoid heels when placed in restricted room. CHEESIE – Began awkwardly. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. VERY SOON – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Jockey H Phillips was fined $500 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that she used her whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, which is one more than permitted. In assessing penalty stewards were mindful that this was her ninth offence in the last twelve months. Race 7: TAB BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1200 metres The start was delayed when AND OVER AGAIN was difficult to load. WOLFF BOSS – Laid in throughout. RIVER SPAN – Fractious in the barriers. Bumped on jumping. Apprentice W Peel was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that she used her whip on six occasions prior to the 100m. In assessing penalty stewards were mindful that this was her fourth offence in the last twelve months. WAIT A MINUTE – Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages. BETAJET – Began awkwardly and bumped RIVER SPAN. AND OVER AGAIN – Began awkwardly and lost significant ground. Raced ungenerously in the middle stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the homes straight. SWAN ISLAND – Stewards permitted rider L Tilley to ride the gelding half a kilogram over its declared weight of 56kgs. Race 8: TAB RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 Handicap 1400 metres KENTFORD – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. WHILE WE CAN – Began awkwardly and shortly after was tightened when placed in restricted room. THE KNIGHT – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 700m raced in restricted room. Brushed with ZAMOSA (NZ) rounding the home turn. DULCIE TIE – Raced keenly in the early stages. FOXY ROSE – Raced wide in the middle stages. HOLD ALL TICKETS – Performed below market expectations. Rider K Yoshida reported that the mare failed to travel throughout and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities Race 9: 9 TAB RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 Handicap 1400 metres SUPERVISOR – Over the concluding stages had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of RUBY RUSH. TERRAJOHNA – Raced very ungenerously in the early stages. Momentarily held up in the early part of the home straight. Near the 100m was awkwardly placed on the heels of GREY NOISE and was obliged to direct his mount to the inside to obtain clear running. CARO CAVALLO - Steadied near the 1100m when placed in restricted room. EXPLORATION – Began awkwardly and bumped SUPERVISOR. Near the 100m was bumped and became unbalanced. RUBY RUSH – Steadied near the 1100m when placed in restricted room. CITRUS BURST (NZ) – Slow to begin. Raced very ungenerously in the early and middle stages.
