QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT DALBY AND NORTHERN DOWNS JOCKEY CLUB DALBY – TUESDAY 4 APRIL 2023 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING –SLOW 6 RAIL – +2.5m-600-300m TRUE REMAIDER OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – T PrestonStewards – J Childs, D MacDonald, S HeidkeClerk of Scales – K HauffJudge – S FaehyVeterinarian – Dr S DuiganSwab Attendants – J PedrofskiStarter – T Woodham GENERAL After the running of Race 2 a delegation of riders approached Stewards raising safety concerns for the section of track between the 600m and the 300m point. Stewards and the riders inspected the area of track that was of concern. Stewards consulted with all parties as required within the Racing Queensland and QRIC Race Meeting Procedures Thoroughbred Postponement or Abandonment Policy and after considering all options available to them Stewards agreed that the safety concerns as expressed by the riders was valid and acting under the provision of AR21, did call off the remainder of the program today. Race 1: TAB QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 800 metres Kalumburu- Began awkwardly then inconvenienced by another runner shortly after the start resulting in Appr J Molloy having to take hold and subsequently lost ground. Leaving the 400m improved onto the heels of CHAROSE and had to ease. Blundered at the 250m point and lost ground. Stewards questioned Appr Jky J Molloy regarding the below market expectation performance of the horse. Appr Molloy advised that the performance was disappointing as he had been working very well. He further added that after he began awkwardly and was hampered by FLANK SPEED then he didn’t travel well in the going for the majority of the race and that the gelding failed to run on despite his best efforts to improve. Stewards also a comment from Trainer Mr L Hatch who advised that once the gelding missed the start, he would struggle to make up the ground in an 800m event. The horse had worked well, and the run was disappointing. Mr Hatch gave stewards an undertaking should the horse not pull up well he would notify stewards. Stewards noted Appr Jky J Molloy and Trainer Mr L Hatch’s comments. Buckleys- Began awkwardly and bumped WINDSKI shortly after the start. Flank Speed-Began awkwardly then jumped inward inconveniencing MISS KITIVA then continued to shift in hampering KALUMBURU. Laid out from the 300m point. Miss Kitiva- Slow to begin, then hampered by FLANK SPEED shortly after the start and lost ground. Windski- Bumped by BUCKLEYS shortly after the start. Charose- Jky H Richardson replaced Jky L Tarrant who was late on course due to traffic issues. Rolled in marginally when leaving the 400m point. Race 2: TAB BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 800 metres Mr Vista- Slipped at the 500m point then bumped SUNIKI who in turn bumped the hindquarters of BONGANI which became unbalanced. Trainer W Bannerot reported to stewards that the gelding had returned showing signs of lameness post-race. A post-Race veterinary examination was undertaken with signs of lameness in the left foreleg. Trainer W Bannerot was advised that a vet certificate would be required prior to the gelding’s next start. Go Deep- Began awkwardly and hampered another runner shortly after the start. Then when approaching the 400m was taken outward by GLOBAL VENTURE and crossed the heels of another runner. Hung out for the majority of the event. Global Venture- Blundered near the 500m on two occasions. At the 400m point dictated GO DEEP out slightly resulting in that horse crossing the heels of SUNKIA. post- race veterinary examination was undertaken due to the seeming disappointing performance of the horse. This examination revealed signs of mild heat distress. Trainer Mr J Devine was advised that a Vet certificate would be required prior to the horse’s next start. Bongani- Bumped by another runner at the 500m point. Suniki- Was crowded for room shortly after the start by GO DEEP which began awkwardly. Champagne Torque- Was declared a late scratching by Stewards at 12.46pm after the brindle had broken when behind the barriers. On the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies invested on CHAMPAGNE TORQUE be refunded in full and the following deductions to apply to all successful wagers prior to 12.46pm. Win- 30c, Place-25c, 2nd place- 15c and 3rd place- 27c. Stewards inspected the damaged bridle and took no further action in relation to the matter.
