GENERAL
 
As Riders B. Andrews and M. McGilivray were not riding at today’s meeting due to illness, replacements were made as per Stewards race day summary. Both riders were advised they would require a medical clearance prior to being permitted to ride in a race again.
 
 
Race 1: TAB ENTRIES & GELDINGS MAIDEN HANDICAP (1100m)
 
SMILING ZAC – Stewards permitted Apprentice J. Williams to claim only 1.5kg of his 2kg allowance. Apprentice Williams was fined the sum of $300 under the provisions of AR143(14)(a). Hung out in the home straight proving somewhat difficult to ride out. Trainer M. Currie was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding as a result.
 
BRIGHT REALM – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having not raced in the previous 12 months and was passed fit to start.
 
HUSSONHOFF – Raced keenly on heels near the 600m.
 
EXTORTIONIST – Over-raced in the early stages. Shifted in under pressure and momentarily inconvenienced HECTOR SAGOA passing the 100m.
 
OLD MAN PAT – Bumped on jumping. Laid out leaving the 600m. Jockey J. Huxtable reported his mount had been inclined to hang out for majority of the event.
 
STAR ACCLAM – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
CASINO CAT – Leaving the 600m laid out and away from heels. Leaving the 200m was obliged to ease off heels and shift out to obtain clear running.
 
LORN BRONN – Began very awkwardly and bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced wide for the majority.
 
HECTOR SAGOA – Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 100m.
 
 
Race 2: TAB MARES MMAIDEN HANDICAP (1100m)
 
FRENCH MINER – Stewards permitted Rider L. Tarrant to ride the mare 1/2kg over its allocated weight of 54kg when no other suitable rider was available. L. Tarrant was fined the sum of $100 under the provisions of AR190(3). In determining penalty Stewards noted L. Tarrant’s excellent record in relation to the rule. Contacted on jumping, taken wider and bumped again before becoming momentarily awkwardly placed on heels.
 
BRONZE MEMORY – Slow into stride. Became awkwardly placed on heels approaching the 600m and was obliged to ease.
 
WAN D’AMOUR – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped.
 
I SURVIVED – Buffeted on jumping between runners. Performed below markets expectations. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
LIGHT UP THE DAWN – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start being effected. Began awkwardly and bumped. Obliged to shift in and away from heels near the 1000m. Rider M. Hellyer advised his mount had been inclined to lay in for majority of the event. Jockey M. Hellyer was fined the sum of $300 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on 6 occasions, 1 more than permitted, prior to the 100m.
 
SHE’S SOO GOOD- Over-raced in the early stages and shifted in near the 1000m. Jockey R. Jamieson advised her mount felt uncomfortable in its action on returning to the mounting yard. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
STAR OF COUTEAU – Began awkwardly. Contacted over the concluding stages when STAR OF COUTEAU.
 
LOOK AT ROSA – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Shifted out and bumped STAR OF COUTEAU over the concluding stages.
 
OAKVALE LASS – Shifted out abruptly under pressure passing the 200m.
 
 
Race 3: TAB QTIS 3yo MAIDEN HANDICAP (1100m)
 
MONEY BEAR – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after being fractious during transport and was passed fit to start. After beginning only fairly from the wide barrier was restrained in the early stages to obtain a position with cover. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Momentarily hampered and shifted out on entering the home straight.
 
CONNELLY – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Bumped and taken wider when entering the home straight. Apprentice B. Wheeler was unable to offer any tangible explanation for his mounts disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
 
PIPATINA – Laid out rounding the home turn taking ASHMOLEAN wider on the track. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
UNDERHAND – Raced keenly in the early stages. Apprentice E. Lang was unable to offer any tangible explanation for his mounts disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
 
ASHMOLEAN – Slow into stride. Taken wider rounding the home turn by another runner which laid out.
 
DOLLY’S A NATURAL – Laid out on entering the home straight and bumped.
 
VALLEY OF HOPE – Raced keenly when crossed approaching the 900m.
 
THERMATIC – Apprentice T. Townsend advised her mount had been inclined to lay in for majority of the event.
 
 
Race 4: TAB BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP (1100m)
 
BARCLAY’S BANK – Became awkwardly placed on heels soon after the start, shifted out and bumped.
 
BEPPE – Shifted in and bumped on jumping. Shifted ground under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice B. Wheeler was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(5) in that he did use his whip on 16 occasions, 2 more than permitted, throughout the event.
 
ARTHUR IN CHARGE – Bumped and shifted out on jumping.
 
SHOTGUN SONNY – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
DON’T DISS AROUND – Began awkwardly.
 
BID IN A HURRY – Bumped soon after the start.  Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have minor lacerations to its hind-legs consistent with being galloped on.
 
DEVINE FACTOR – Bumped soon after the start.
 
ROWDASH – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 5: TAB RATINGS BAND 0-58 HANDICAP (1400m)
 
CHARGED – Began awkwardly and bumped. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Bumped passing the 800m when tightened.
 
KINGHAM – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages. Shifted in away from heels and bumped passing the 800m when crowded. Compounded in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations consistent with being galloped on in running. Trainer B. Andrews stated the gelding would now be spelled, however was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
ELECTRIC – Bumped on jumping. Shifted in passing the 800m tightening runners to its inside before being corrected by its rider. Rider J. Huxtable was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) and advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Rider J. Huxtable was fined the sum of $300 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on 6 occasions, 1 more than permitted, prior to the 100m.
 
TOP BABE – Raced wide for majority of the event. Bumped on entering the home straight.
 
TIMELY SHADOW – Slow to begin. Bumped on entering the home straight becoming momentarily unbalanced. App B Wheeler was fined the sum of $300 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on 6 occasions, 1 more than permitted, prior to the 100m.
 
METAL ROCK – Began awkwardly.
 
TELL THE WORLD – Slow to begin. Approaching the 200m, shifted out and around the heels of the tiring KINGHAM. Shifted in abruptly passing the 100m before being corrected by its rider.
 
 
Race 6: TAB RATINGS BAND 0-58 HANDICAP (1200m)
 
BOOM BY BY – Began very awkwardly. Raced wide for majority of the event.
 
CITROUILLE – Began awkwardly. After beginning only fairly from the wide barrier was restrained in the early stages to obtain cover and a position closer to the inside running rail.
 
BEEOKAY – Laid in over the concluding stages momentarily crowding AMANECER passing the winning post. Jockey N. Vuille was advised to exercise greater care.
 
HUSTLED – Began awkwardly. Jockey G. Steele advised her saddle slipped shortly after the start. Trailed the field throughout and finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer G. Steele was advised the gelding’s nominations at TAB venues would be refused until its non-TAB form had improved.
 
STERLINGTON – Bumped on jumping. Contacted passing the 1100m. Shifted in near the 800m when attempting to obtain a position with cover and bumped with RELICTA.
 
RELICTA - Contacted near the 800m.
 
TAKEMEOUTBACK – Shifted out and bumped on jumping. Laid out leaving the 1100m momentarily inconveniencing SHOTGUN SAM. Laid out passing the 200m and bumped CAPITAN DE SEDA.
 
CAPITAN DE SEDA – Bumped passing the 200m.
 
SHOTGUN SAM – Raced keenly in the early stages. Bumped passing the 1100m before being momentarily inconvenienced soon after. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
AMANECER – Crowded passing the winning post. Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
 
Race 7: TAB BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP (800m)
 
OTELO – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Stewards intend to follow up with Trainer R. Hilton regarding the gelding’s condition in the coming days.
 
COSMIC SERENADE – Bumped on jumping. Severely crowded near the 500m between RUSHEEN.
 
FIGHT IN THE DOG – Slow into stride.
 
I LOVE THIS HIPPY – From the wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Severely hampered by the fallen MIRALIE near the 500m. Laid in passing the 200m momentarily and momentarily inconvenienced SUNIKI.
 
SHALAA’S MOMENT – Began awkwardly and was bumped. Hampered by the fallen MIRALIE near the 500m and obliged to be taken wider by its rider.
 
SUNIKI – Momentarily inconvenienced near the 200m. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
GOOD GRAB – Momentarily crowded between YOU ESS ESS ARE and RUSHEEN near the 50m.
 
YOU ESS ESS ARE – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
RUSHEEN – Crowded onto the running rail near the 500m when COSMIC SERENADE was obliged to shift in. Laid in under pressure near the 50m before being corrected by its rider.
 
MIRALIE – Near the 500m severely blundered and dislodged Apprentice L. Barr. Apprentice L. Barr was tendered to by QAS officers on course before being transported to hospital for further treatment and observation. An immediate veterinary examination of the gelding revealed a catastrophic compound fracture to the off-foreleg. The gelding was subsequently euthanised under humane grounds. A post-mortem blood samples were taken for analysis. After taking initial evidence from Riders J. Huxtable, N. Masuda, A. Thompson and A. Allen, and Apprentices E. Lang, and C. Sutherland, the inquiry into the gelding falling was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed.
