Race 1:BOOK FOR THE RUGBY RACEDAY MAIDEN PLATE (2000m)
 
END OF MONTH – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped METAPHYSICS. Jockey N. Tomizawa pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on his 10 occasions prior to the 100m, 5 more than permitted. Jockey Tomizawa’s license to ride in race was suspended for a period of 7 days, to commence Wednesday, 16 August 2023, up to and including Wednesday, 22 August 2023.
 
HECTOR SAGOA – Bumped on jumping.
 
IMPERIAL LUCA – Bumped on jumping.
 
LICENCE TO THRILL – Raced keenly in the early stages when attempting to obtain a position with cover. Approaching the 1500m became awkwardly placed on heels and was obliged to shift wider. Raced wide and without cover for the remainder of the event.
 
METAPHYSICS – Began awkwardly. Laid out leaving the 1500m.
 
NICE WATER – Inclined to lay-out throughout the event. Laid out over the concluding stages.
 
CASSIE’S GIRL – Began awkwardly and shortly after the start became awkward on heels.
 
 
 
Race 2: JTW CLEANING & MAINTENANCE SERVICE CLASS 2 HANDICAP (2000m)
 
 
BRAVE BOY – Approaching the 500m became momentarily awkwardly placed on heels when shifting wider before shifting back in to obtain clear running.
 
MANTINELLO – From the wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Allowed to stride forward approaching the 1200m to assume the lead when the pace slackened.
 
CLOUDY MISS – Commenced to tire noticeably from the 150m. Jockey J. Murphy could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
 
 
 
Race 3: WARREGO WATER MAIDEN PLATE (1400m)
 
AGRO AGAIN – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. Approaching the 800m, when shifting ground in an effort to obtain a position with cover bumped with AMIRITE. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
MARTY AWHA – Jockey N. Fazackerley stated that the gelding was inclined to hang throughout.
 
MIKKI EIGHT – Connections advised it would be intention for the gelding to settle further forward if circumstances permit. Settled on-pace.
 
AMIRITE – Jockey S. Apthorpe was reminded of his obligations regarding his whip use when out of contention.
 
EARLY CHOICE – Held up on heels rounding the home turn and entering the home straight. Blundered on straightening.
 
SUNNY DAY – After beginning on terms, struggled to muster early speed to maintain contact with the remainder of the field and subsequently settled in a rearward position.  
 
TRIPLESEE – After beginning well and being caught wide in the early stages, was ridden positively to obtain a more forward position than may have been expected. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 4: WESTERN DOWNS MARINE & CANVAS MAIDEN PLATE (1400m)
 
BANKONAJET – Bumped with CHAIRLIFT on jumping.
 
TERMITE – Leaving the 400m shifted out and bumped with SQUIDGEN when attempting to obtain clear running before shifting in and momentarily hampering BILPA MOREA. Jockey K. Zechner was advised to exercise more care.
 
AWESOME MOON – Co-trainer C. Geran was fined $100 under LR67(1) for the late declaration of W. D’ Avilla as the rider of the mare.
 
CATCH CRIES – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Held-up rounding the home turn. When asked to comment on the performance of the mare, and specifically her riding of the mare in the middle stages, Apprentice A. Donald stated despite the mare jumping well, she only travelled fairly throughout the early stages, and became under pressure approaching the 600m but was flat in her response. She further added that the mare did respond to riding in the home straight. When queried in regard to why she elected not to permit her mount to stride forward when it became evident she would be caught wide App Donald advised she had considered that option however felt her mount was not travelling well enough to obtain a more forward position without still remaining wide. She further stated the mare, which was only having its third race start, would be better suited over further distances. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
CHAIRLIFT – Bumped on jumping. Leaving the 1200m commenced to race keenly when crossed. Raced in restricted room for a short distance thereafter.
 
BILPA MOREA – Slow to begin. Momentarily improved onto heels entering the home turn.
 
SQUIDGEN – Leaving the 400m, when commencing to weaken, was bumped by another runner.
 
ORACLE’S DRUMMER – Laid out down the back straight. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
 
Race 5: BOOK FOR THE SAINTS RACEDAY BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP (1000m)
 
HOLIDAY DREAMS – Began very awkwardly. Over-raced in the early stages and became awkwardly placed between runners and was obliged to steady. Raced wide and without cover thereafter. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
BULLETIN – Upon straightening, inconvenienced and obliged to shift to the inside of SIR PICCOLO when that runner shifted out abruptly.
 
MANDALAY BLONDE – Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer N. Beck advised that, in his opinion, the mare is better suited to event’s over further distances.
 
SIR PICCOLO – Began awkwardly. Upon straightening, shifted out when insufficiently clear of BULLETIN which was obliged to restrain and alter course. Jockey L. Tarrant was severely reprimanded for careless riding under AR131(a) and advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground.
 
 
RACE 6: MURRAY’S TYRES & MORE RATINGS BAND 0-58 HANDICAP (1000m)
 
ALBION SQUARE – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 400m obliged to restrain and shift wider when inconvenienced.
 
SHOULD KNOW BETTER – Approaching the 400m tightened onto the running rail when inconvenienced by DEVILS WHERE which was obliged to check when losing ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
HIDDEN SPRING – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
 
TAKEMEOUTBACK – Lost the near-side winker on jumping.
 
DEVILS WHERE – Approaching the 400m obliged to check and become very awkwardly placed on the heels of WINDSONG and lost ground.
 
WINDSONG – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Jockey M. Savva pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that she did allow her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of DEVILS WHERE, which was obliged to check and shift in, tightening SHOULD KNOW BETTER onto the running rail which was restrained. ALBION SQUARE which was trailing was also obliged to restrain and shift out taking GHETTO wider as a result. Jockey Savva’s license was suspended for a period of 13 days, starting 8 August up to and including 20 August 2023. In determining penalty, Stewards determined while the carelessness was deemed to be in the low-range and the severity of interference to be in the high-range. Stewards also considered Jockey Savva’s good recent record in relation to the rule as well as her guilty plea and forthright evidence.
 
PRINCESS KAYO – Crowded on jumping between runners.
 
GHETTO – Slow to begin. Approaching the 400m obliged to steady when taken wider by another runner.  
 
 
RACE 7: SUPA CONSTRUCTIONS RATINGS BAND 0-58 HANDICAP (1000m)
 
BONGANI – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
ROTHERO ESSGEE – Bumped shortly after the start.
 
SUPER SPROCKET – Slow to begin.
 
DREAMER’S GIFT – Near the 900m, became momentarily awkward on heels.
 
MADDISON’S MISSILE – Began awkwardly and bumped shortly after the start.
 
THE ORPHAN – Approaching the 200m obliged to shift out and away from heels to obtain clear running.
 
 
 
RACE 8: SUNDOWN SIGNS CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1400m)
 
RANGI TOA – Leaving the 1200m, inconvenienced when KIKI COCO shifted in abruptly and was obliged to check.
 
SEMPRIENTE – Laid out near the 500m.
 
PESHWA – Passing the 100m, shifted out marginally away from heels. Jockey S. Apthorpe was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on 7 occasions, 2 more than permitted.
 
SCENIC RIM – Laid out near the 500m.
 
KIKI COCO –App O. Webb pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that she did permit her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of RANGI TOA, dictating the line of that runner in, onto the line of GERTIE GOER which was obliged to check and lose its rightful running. Apprentice Webb’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days, commencing 16 August up to and including 24 August. In determining penalty, Stewards deemed the interference and carelessness to be in the mid-range, however noted Apprentice O. Webb’s unblemished record in relation to the rule and her forthright evidence.
 
ANACHEEVA LAD – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Passing the 100m, momentarily hampered and obliged to ease when PESHWA shifted out and away from heels.
 
SQUEEZE DIS – Reluctant to proceed to the barrier. Trainer A. Park was advised that a warning would be placed on the pre-race manners of the gelding.
 
TUSCANY BOUND – Passing the 100m, shifted out marginally under pressure.
 
GERTIE GOER – Began only fairly. Leaving the 1200m, obliged to check from heels when RANGI TOA was directed inwards by KIKI COCO. Raced keenly when being crossed in the early stages, and again near the 600m.
