QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT DALBY & NORTHERN DOWNS JOCKEY CLUBDALBY – SATURDAY, 16 SEPTEMBER 2023 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 4 ; upgraded to Good 3 at 1:20pm RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C. Warren Stewards – J. Childs, W. Glass & E. TicknerClerk of Scales – K. Hoff Judge – B. Polestra & S. Fahey Veterinarian – Dr C. Bowden-Betts & Dr S. Duigan Swab Attendants – A. Challen Starter – I. Henderson GENERAL Stewards permitted the following overweights:Race 1 - INATICK – L. Tilley (+0.5kg) – 55.5kgRace 3 - GARTAK – L. Tilley (0.5kg) – 55.5kg Stewards conducted an inquiry into Jockey D. Smith having in his possession and using his mobile phone in the Jockeys’ Room during the running of the race-meeting. After considering the matter Jockey D. Smith was issued with and subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under AR218(4) and was fined $1000. Race 1: PURCELL CIVIL & CONSTRUCTION MAIDEN PLATE (1000m) MORE MAX – Raced keenly leaving the 800m. Laid out rounding the home turn. THE SNUGGLER – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. WORTHY ESSGEE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. FIDDLER ONTHE ROOF – Blundered approaching the 400m and became momentarily unbalanced. Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Jockey J. Stanley was examined by QAS and assessed using the QRIC Concussion Protocol Policy after being struck in the face exiting the barriers and deemed fit to fulfill his remaining engagements. JUHAYNA - Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. ASSYMETRY – Blundered on jumping. BOONAH FLASHER – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. GERALDINE'S WISH – Slow into stride. Momentarily held-up rounding the home turn. Bumped the running rail entering the home straight. PRIDE AN' JOY – Slow to begin. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Held-up entering the home straight before being obliged to shift wider to obtain clear running. Following the running of this race, Senior Jockeys and Stewards inspected a section of the track between the 400m-500m. Remedial works were undertaken and conditions monitored throughout the day. Race 2: D&NDJC BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP (1100m) Correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey P. Hamblin (BOLD RUMBLE) to review the footage over the concluding stages. After viewing the footage Jockey Hamblin elected not to proceed with any objection and correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers. BOLD RUMBLE – Began awkwardly. BEST TO HURRY – Bumped on jumping. After beginning only fairly, failed to muster sufficient speed to obtain a forward position and subsequently settled further back than expected. CRAZY EYED FRED – Began awkwardly and bumped. Jockey J. Stanley reported that the gelding was inclined to lay out from the 600m and failed to handle the track conditions. Had difficulty obtaining clear running over the concluding stages. MISSY'S READY – Slow into stride before becoming awkwardly placed on heels soon after. DISCONCERTED (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early stages when being restrained in an effort to obtain a position with cover. SCRUFF'N'STUFF – Buffeted on jumping. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Race 3: DARBY BUILDERS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1200m) GALWAY HUSSLER – Approaching the 100m, shifted in and momentarily crowded APPROVAL. Jockey G. Geran was advised to exercise greater care. Jockey G. Geran was reminded of his obligations under AR131(b) to ride his mounts out to the finish of the event. APPROVAL – Approaching the 100m, momentarily crowded when GALWAY HUSSLER shifted in. GARTAN – Slow to begin. Jockey L. Tilley accidentally dropped his whip approaching the 400m. TIJUANA TWO STEP – Slow to begin. Approaching the 400m became momentarily crowded. JUST A HERO – Approaching the 900m, commenced to race greenly and laid in and away when marginally crowded. Following the running of the event the racing surface was upgraded to a Good 3 Race 4: NOVUS INDUSTRIES MAIDEN HANDICAP (1400m) TOP WEEKEND – After beginning on terms was unable to muster sufficient speed to maintain its position and subsequently trailed throughout. WONFORWAZZA – Commenced to race keenly passing the 700m, when attempting to obtain a position with cover closer to the inside running rail. Bumped leaving the 100m. SCAPINI - Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. BUTTERFLY WINGS – Slow to begin. SHOTGUN SIXTYFOUR – Blundered on jumping and lost ground. WAN D'AMOUR – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Leaving the 100m, when commencing to tire, shifted out and bumped WONFORWAZZA. Race 5: NEWSTATE BUILDERS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP (1100m) Correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view the films over the concluding stages. Whilst acknowledging there was contact between HUSSON’S REVENGE and BRIGHT DAISY in the early part of the home straight, Stewards were of the opinion the interference was minor in nature and had no tangible effect on the placings and subsequently correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers. HUSSON'S REVENGE – Bumped approaching the 200m. BRIGHT DAISY – Laid out leaving the 600m. Momentarily eased leaving the 500m and shifted wider around heels. Laid in under pressure from the 200m and bumped with HUSSON’S REVENGE. MISS BOOM BOOM – Raced keenly when being restrained in an effort to obtain a position with cover near the 1000m. Was tightened and obliged to steady leaving the 800m. ARTIE'S DESTINY – Over-raced passing the 800m. Tightened soon after passing the winning post and obliged to steady. NEARBY – Slow to begin. DOOR INTO SUMMER – Bumped on jumping. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. SEA COMMITS – Began awkwardly and bumped on jumping. Bumped again soon after. LADY CUMBERLAND – Shifted in passing the 800m when not fully clear of MISS BOOM BOOM causing that runner to be steadied. App O. Webb was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding as a result of this incident. RHAPALONG – After beginning well, settled in a more forward position than may have been expected. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. After the winning-post, shifted in and tightened ARTIE’S DESTINY. Jockey D. Smith was advised to exercise greater care. GOLDEN GROOVE – Bumped on jumping. Race 6: DALBY CREDIT UNION PLOUGH INN CUP MAIDEN PLATE (1400m) Correct weight was delayed allowing QAS officers to attend to Apprentice Graham who was dislodged upon pulling up. When it became apparent that Apprentice Graham would be unable to weigh in, Stewards declared correct weight under AR208(3)(b) as they were of the opinion the gelding had carried its allocated weight. BOOG'S BOY – Taken wider approaching the 500m when PICCOLO NIKKI hung-out. Dislodged App A. Graham following the winning post when the saddle slipped. Apprentice A. Graham was assessed by QAS officers using the QRIC Concussion Protocol Policy and taken to hospital for further observations. Apprentice Graham was advised of the Concussion Protocol Procedures and that a medical clearance and cognitive assessment would be required prior to racing again. BRONX BOMBER – Shifted out approaching the 1000m and bumped I SURVIVED. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. When questioned regarding her riding, with particular emphasis in the home straight, App Champkin stated she had intended to obtain the lead on the gelding, however the gelding had proven difficult to ride throughout the event with a tendency to hang-out. Stewards noted the explanation, nonetheless App Champkin was reminded of her obligations to ride her mount out to the finish. Stewards also noted the gelding had tired noticeably in the home straight. Trainer P Wallace was advised a warning would be place on the geldings racing manners as a result. GOONDI GOLD – Slow to begin. ROYAL COURT (NZ) – Momentarily held-up leaving the 400m. AMAZING JOURNEY – Held-up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. DARLHISMA- When questioned regarding the improved performance Trainer B Keenan advised that the gelding had worked well leading into and since its preceding start adding that the step down in distance and short backup into todays event had, in his opinion, been advantageous. Mr Keenan stated further that connections had modestly supported the gelding having considered it an each-way chance based on its recent form and trackwork. Stewards noted the explanation. I SURVIVED – Bumped approaching the 1000m. PICCOLO NIKKI – Slow to begin. Commenced to hang-out from the 650m, taking BOOG’S BOY wider. Hung-out severely rounding the home-turn and was unable to be tested for the remainder. Trainer J. Halpin was advised the mare would be required to trial to Stewards satisfaction prior to racing again. Race 7: DALBY DRYCLEANERS & LAUNDERERS CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1400m) The running of this race was delayed by 5 minutes when App Graham required transportation to hospital. ANARCHY – Laid out from the 600m. Laid out and away from another runner marginally approaching the 200m making contact with OUTLAW JOSEY WALES. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery. OUTLAW JOSEY WALES – Bumped with ANARCHY approaching the 200m when being shifted out and around heels to improve. JUBILANT – Was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 3:31pm when the gelding became fractious in the barriers and cast its near-hind in the barriers. Prior to the declaration of correct weight all monies invested on the mare were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 3:31pm; 15cents in the dollar for the win 13cents in the dollar for the place on the winner 12cents in the dollar for 2nd place13cents in the dollar for 3rd place Trainer D. Groves was advised the gelding would a veterinary clearance prior to being required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again. MILAGRO – After beginning on terms was unable to muster sufficient speed and trailed the field in the early stages. HEART OF MARBLE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. App A. Donald was fined $300 under AR132(7)(ii) in that she did use her whip on 7 occasions, 2 more than permitted prior to the 100m. SHOUTS OUTBACK – After beginning on terms was unable to muster sufficient speed and trailed the field in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery Race 8: WILD RIVER CONCRETE DALBY CUP OPEN HANDICAP (1400m) STEINBRENNER (NZ) – Raced keenly for a short distance near the 1000m. Trainer M. Currie stated that the gelding wasn’t suited by the firmer track conditions or the drop back in distance for todays event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. FESTIVAL PRINCE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after taking charge of its rider in the preliminary and passed fit to start. Jockey M. Wishart was reprimanded under AR131(b) for failing to ride her mount out to the finish. In determining penalty Stewards determined Jockey Wishart’s actions had no tangible effect on the placings. OFFICE JIM – Bumped rounding the home turn. SPIRIT'S CHARM – Over-raced throughout the event. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. KIKI COCO – Laid in under pressure down the home straight. KORUTO – Bumped rounding the home turn. Race 9: TOM FRITH MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP (1200m) KING OF WANCHAI – Became momentarily awkwardly placed on heels entering the home straight before shifting to the inside to obtain clear running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. EXPECTANT – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners to obtain a position with cover. Laid in over the concluding stages and bumped with THUNDER MOON. LITTLE VISTA – Raced keenly on heels approaching the 600m. Over the concluding stages bumped with SUPER SPROCKET. CAPTAIN HOOK (NZ) – Trainer J. Capewell was fine $200 under AR106 for presenting the gelding for pre-race inspection without blinkers. Slow into stride. Raced keenly in the early stages. THUNDER MOON – Began awkwardly. Momentarily crowded approaching the 900m. Over the concluding stages, bumped with EXPECTANT. SUPER SPROCKET – Over the concluding stages bumped with LITTLE VISTA. SHATTER PROOF – Laid in approaching the 200m before becoming awkwardly placed on heels. HEART OF MARBLE – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
