GENERAL
 
When Apprentice A. Donald (non-claiming) was injured and unable to fulfill her engagement, Stewards permitted the following rider change:
Race 2, No. 10 GIDGET – N. Tomizawa
 
Apprentice A. Donald was advised she would require a medical clearance prior to race-riding again.
 
 
When Apprentice B. Moffatt was unable to claim his full allowance, Stewards permitted the following rider change:
Race 3, No. 5 RED SHIRAZ – Apprentice E. Pomfrett
 
Apprentice B. Moffat was reprimanded under AR143(14)(a) in that he was unable to claim his full allowance and subsequently required to be replaced. Stewards noted that it was Apprentice Moffat’s first offence.
 
 
Race 1: SAMUEL HANNAFORD MEMORIAL QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (1000m)
 
The start of the event was delayed slightly due to SO ROSE’s becoming cast in the barrier and Apprentice L Sykes requiring attention from QAS officers.
 
BILYARA – Stewards permitted Apprentice B. Moffat to only claim 2.5kg of his 3kg allowance when no other apprentice was available. Apprentice Moffat was reprimanded under AR143(14)(a). Shifted out on jumping. Trainer S. McEwan stated the stable would now give consideration to giving the gelding a spell.
 
CHECKPOINT CHARLIE – Approaching the 200m, gave ground abruptly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. As this was the first such occasion Trainer B. Newport was advised of the conditions of AR79(4).
 
EYE WANTED – Raced greenly in the early stages. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
 
MONTAGLIARI – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having raced at Charleville, 1 October 2023 and passed fit to start. Stood flat-footed at the start.
 
SO ROSIE – Declared a late-scratching at 12:56pm when fractious in the barriers and became cast. Apprentice L. Sykes was assessed by QAS officers and deemed unfit to fulfil his remaining engagements. Apprentice Sykes was subsequently stood down from his remaining engagements and advised he would require a medical clearance prior to again being permitted to ride in a race or trial. Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all monies invested on the mare were to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 4:09pm:

1st 23c win, 17c place
2nd 17c place
3rd 17c place

Trainer J. Williams was advised that SO ROSIE is stood down from racing until a veterinary clearance is obtained prior to completing 1 trail to Stewards satisfaction.
 
MRS ROBINSON – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after being fractious in the barriers and passed fit to start.
 
SWEET WIND - Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
 
 
Race 2- RIVERINA STOCKFEEDS / TARA RURAL SUPPLIES BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1200m)
 

UNASSAILABLE – From a wide barrier was restrained to obtain a position with cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
HARRYANDTHETIGER – Stewards permitted Apprentice R. Thorbum to be declared as the replacement when Apprentice L. Sykes was indisposed. Tightened on jumping. Hung-in under pressure in the home straight.
 
PACKAGE – Slow to begin.
 
CHARGED – Began awkwardly.
GIDGET – Began awkwardly.
MOUNTBATTEN – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
 
Race 3: COMMERCIAL HOTEL / HENCOL CONSTRUCTIONS CLASS B HANDICAP (1200m)
 
BRIGHT REALM – From a wide barrier shifted behind runners in the early stages.
 
DEEP MILLIONS – Shifted in passing the winning post tightening MARTY AWHA which was obliged to restrain. Apprentice A. Graham was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
RED SHIRAZ – Obliged to shift off heels rounding the home-turn to obtain clear running.
 
MARTY AWHA – Tightened following the winning post when DEEP MILLIONS shifted in.
LIPSTICK LIES – Stewards queried the tactics adopted on the mare. When questioned regarding her riding, particularly the decision to remain wide when there appeared an opportunity to obtain a position with cover approaching the 1200m, Apprentice Krahnen stated that her mount was racing strongly underneath her, and she had been instructed to obtain a forward position. She further stated she was unable to restrain her mount to obtain cover when it commenced to hang-out. She agreed in hindsight, this would have been the more favourable option. Stewards Apprentice Krahnen’s explanation. Apprentice Krahnen was also reminded to not use her whip when her mount is out of contention. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
 
Race 4: WESTERN DOWNS REG. COUNCIL COUNTRY CUPS CHALLENGE QUAL/KEN DOWLING MEMORIAL TARA CUP OPEN HANDICAP (1400m)
 
VINASTA – Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages.

 
PARKO – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having raced at,
Charleville on 1 October 2023 and passed fit to start. Bumped on jumping.
Raced keenly for the majority.
 
KAPPY CINO – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide and without cover throughout,
the event.
 
OFFICE JIM – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
UNRESTRICTED – Stewards acceded to a request for the cross-over noseband,
to be removed when unable to be fitted. Raced keenly when placed in restricted,
room inside the 1200m on the heels of OFFICE JIM. Again, inside the 1000m,
tightened for room between the running rail and OFFICE JIM.
Apprentice A. Graham expressed disappointment with the performance and
stated the gelding is better suited when able to dictate in the lead and was unable to do so on this occasion. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
SAMMY – Bumped on jumping.
 
COYNES ROAD – Bumped on jumping.
 
LAURIE – Raced in restricted room for a short distance inside the 1000m.
 
 
Race 5: BRANDON & ASSOCIATES  0 - 55 HANDICAP (1400m)
 
THE STONE MASON – Began awkwardly. Apprentice S. McCann accidentally
dropped her whip approaching the 400m.
 
ABB ROY – Began awkwardly.
CAMARILLO – Late scratching at 2:30pm when no rider was available after
Apprentice L. Sykes was indisposed.
 
PRITI PIPER – Slow to begin
MODERNA'S ARROW – Trainer M. Hill was fined $100 under AR106 for presenting
the gelding without blinkers, part of its approved gear. Slow to begin. Raced
keenly in the early stages.
TWO DUCKS ARTIE – Laid in for a short distance inside the 800m.
INHISTIME - Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having raced at
Charleville, on 1 October 2023 and passed fit to start. Stewards granted permission to  
Apprentice C. Krahnen to claim only 3kg of her 4kg when no other
rider was available. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
