QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT Dalby & Northen Downs Jockey Club DALBY – SATURDAY, 4 NOVEMBER 2023 WEATHER – OVERCAST TRACK RATING – SOFT 5; Upgraded to a Good 4 following Race 1 RAIL – +2.5m 600m-300m; True Remainder OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – E. Henderson Race 1: STEVE MCDONALD CONTRACTING BENCHMARK 55 Handicap (1400m) DECIDER – Slow to begin. Laid-out rounding the home-turn. Eased down in the home straight. Apprentice C. Sutherland stated that the gelding felt uncomfortable in its action and for that reason he elected to ease his mount down. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with the stable in the coming days. TUSCANY BOUND – Raced keenly in the early stages when the pace slackened. BASIL’S BOW – Bumped on jumping. DREAMSEEKER – Began awkwardly, shifted out and contacted BASIL’S BOW. HEAT – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. MY GIRL SKY – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. PRITI PIPER – Performed below market expectations. Trainer representative K. Kropp stated the stable were not disappointed in the performance. Apprentice A. Graham stated in her opinion, the mare would be better suited over further distances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Race 2: SUPA CONSTRUCTIONS BENCHMARK 50 Handicap (1200m) LYNCHED – Began awkwardly, and bumped MISHANI PHAROAH. Momentarily held-up for clear running approaching the 200m. Jockey L. Tilley stated that the gelding was inclined to hang-in throughout the event. LITERMOT – Momentarily held-up rounding the home turn. AVELLANA – Dislodged Apprentice A. Donald enroute to the barriers and after galloping a considerable distance riderless was declared a late scratching at 1:27pm. Stewards ruled all successful wagers prior to 1:27pm be deducted the following amount:10c Win, 13c Place13c Place Apprentice A. Donald was subsequently assessed by QAS Officers including the Racing Queensland Concussion Policy and was deemed fit to fulfil her remaining engagements. SINNAMON TOAST – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. PONTOON PETE – Began awkwardly. MISHANI PHAROAH – Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed bilateral epistaxis for the first occasion. Trainer G. Barbierato was advised of the provisions of AR79(4). CAPE CLUSTER – Tailed the field throughout and took no competitive part. Trainer S. McEwan was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s performance. RINGO’S MAGIC – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Race 3: HOME HARDWARE & PLUMBING QTIS Maiden Plate (1200m) MAILOUT – Began awkwardly. REDVEDEV (NZ) – Began very awkwardly and subsequently settled further back than may have been expected. SNAKESKIN – Began only fairly. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Trainer S. Kirkwood stated he was not disappointed with the performance, as in his opinion the wide run the gelding had endured proved telling in its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. KANSAS SUN – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have lost its off-fore plate, and in turn having sustained lacerations to the inside of its near-hindleg. LICENCED AND READY – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Inside the 1000m obliged to check and placed in restricted room for several strides when RED HOT LOVE shifted in when insufficiently clear. Over-raced for a short distance thereafter. RED HOT LOVE – Began awkwardly. Jockey M. Butler was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR131(a), in that inside the 1000m, he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of LICENCED AND READY, who was obliged to check and placed in restricted room for several strides. Jockey M. Butler’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, commencing midnight 11 November 2023, up to and including 19 November 2023. In assessing penalty, Stewards considered the interference to be in the low range, Jockey Butler’s excellent record in relation to the rule and his not guilty plea. Jockey Butler was advised of his rights to an appeal. ZOU ZOU ZOEIA – Hampered between runners on jumping. EVERCLEAR – Began awkwardly. TEQUILA STEALER – Began awkwardly and bumped ZOU ZOU ZOEIA. Race 4: DALBY & DISTRICT RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP (1000m) TURBOART – When questioned regarding the performance, Apprentice S. McCann stated the weight impost of 67kg proved detrimental to the gelding’s winning chances. DARCHINIAN – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having not raced in nearly 12 months and passed fit to start. MONTANA LADY – Stewards accepted the reason for the late declaration of L. Tilley as the rider of the mare. Change of tactics; To be ridden more positively from the favourable barrier. Settled on-pace. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Race 5: CHINNY SPORTS CLASS B HANDICAP (1000m) MR EVANS – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. MR GORMAN – Laid out rounding the home-turn. LONERGY – Jockey H. Phillips was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that she used her whip on six occasions, 1 more than permitted prior to the 100m. RUSS MUSS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having not raced in 12 months and passed fit to start. Eased down in the home straight. Apprentice A. Graham stated the gelding felt uncomfortable in its actions and she therefore elected to ease her mount down. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be showing significant signs of tying-up and a poor post-race recovery. Trainer S. Noll was advised that the gelding would require a full veterinary clearance prior to barrier trialling to Stewards satisfaction again. WHEREDACRAWDADSING – Hung-in severely under pressure in the home straight, crowding runners to its inside and obliging its rider to stop and straighten. Trainer K. Kirwin was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners. HELLO ANGEL – Raced keenly in the early stages. Held-up rounding the home turn. Approaching the 200m, crowded for room when WHEREDACRAWDADSING hung in. LOUD ATTRACTION – Stewards accepted the reason for the late declaration of Apprentice A. Donald was the rider of the gelding.
