Race 5: RETAILERS & BUSINESS OUTLETS BENCHMARK 50 Handicap (1400m)
 
VULTURE STREET – Jockey P. Hamblin was fined $500 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m, 4 more than permitted.
 
 
GENERAL
 
When App C. Krahnen and Jockey D. Peisley were indisposed due to illness, replacements were permitted as per the Stewards race-day summary. App Krahnen and Jockey Peisley were advised they require medical clearances prior to riding again.
 
Jockey L. Tarrant pleaded guilty to a charge under AR218(4)(b) in that he did have in his possession a mobile phone in the male jockey’s room following the commencement of the race-meeting. Jockey Tarrant was subsequently fined $500, with $300 wholly suspended with the provisions of AR252 for a period of 12 months. In determining penalty Stewards noted Jockey Tarrants forthrightness and record in relation to the rule.
 
 
Race 1: TEQUILA ROUNDUP MAIDEN PLATE (1400m)
 
Correct weight was delayed allowing Stewards to view the photo finish for second. Once satisfied, correct weight was declared on the Judges semaphored numbers.
 
AMONG US – Raced wide and without cover for the majority.
 
GAELIC THUNDER – Slow to begin. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
SUPIDOCHARGED – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide and without cover for the majority. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BOOM CRUSHER – Began awkwardly. Held-up for clear running rounding the home-turn before shifting in to obtain clear running.

MY MATE MARLEY (NZ) – Bumped on jumping.
 
ADISHAM – Proved extremely reluctant to proceed to the start and harmlessly dislodged App J. Molloy in the mounting yard. Trainer J. Dann was advised a warning would be placed on the mare for its pre-race manners. Trainer J. Dann was fined $300 under AR228(a) in that whilst parading ADISHAM he did make forceful contact in an open hand fashion in the vicinity of the mares head. In considering the matter Stewards determined that the actioned employed and the force used were both unnecessary and in full view of the public. Mr Dann was advised of his right to an appeal. Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
BELYAEV – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
SOUTHERN WITNESS – Momentarily crowded and became awkwardly placed on heels approaching the 200m.
 
 
Race 2: THE BIG BRISKET MAIDEN PLATE (1400m)
 
DAWN PARTY – Shifted out and bumped near the 500m when attempting to obtain clear running.
 
ALL ABOUT ARTIE – Began awkwardly and bumped. Bumped for several strides approaching the 1300m and became unbalanced when racing in restricted room.
 
HOTFOOT PERFORMER – Jockey K. Zechner stated that, in his opinion, the gelding had come to the end of its preparation which accounted for the somewhat poor performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
PANDA DRUM – Raced keenly for some distance near the 800m. Obliged to shift to the inside of runners to obtain clear running on entering the home straight.
 
SUPER QUICK – Shifted in to obtain a position with cover approaching the 1300m, placing YONAKA in restricted room. Jockey N. Fazackerley was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding as a result of this incident. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
YONAKA – Bumped on jumping. Bumped and became unbalanced approaching the 1300m when crowded. Raced wide and without cover from the 600m. Bumped near the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
CATCH CRIES (NZ) – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
COOL STORY – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 3: CRI LIVE ENTERTAINMENT QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1400m)
 
ADIELLA – Bumped approaching the 100m.
 
TYPHOON TIP – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages, over-racing for some distance near the 1000m. Crowded onto heels approaching the 300m when YEAH COPY and SPEEDY GRACE both shifted ground. Held-up for clear running in the early part of the home straight when again crowded onto heels. Bumped approaching the 200m.
 
FEEASHIN MOON – Over-raced in the early stages. Bumped approaching the 200m. Obliged to shift off heels approaching the 300m when crowded for room.
 
SPEEDY GRACE – Crowded for room on jumping. Shifted out approaching the 300m crowding TYPHOON TIP onto heels. App O. Webb was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding as a result of this incident.
 
BORN FEARLESS – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
CAILIN ALAINN – Began awkwardly before blundering soon after. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
YEAH COPY – Began awkwardly and bumped. Shifted in approaching the 300m crowding FEEASHIN MOON before continuing inwards crowding TYPHOON TIP. Jockey M. Wishart was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding as a result of this incident. Bumped approaching the 100m.
 
BLACK COUNTRY – Bumped on jumping.
 
 
Race 4: THE BIG BEN MAIDEN PLATE (1000m)
 
OUR DRUMMER – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
LEMON SUPREME – Bumped on jumping before being crowding between runners and obliged to steady. Shifted out abruptly approaching the 800m before being corrected by its rider. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
TEQUILA STEALER – Fractious in the barriers and reared prior to the start being effected. Trainer J. Capewell was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings barrier manners. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
VICTORY LINK – Began awkwardly and bumped.
 
DOLLY'S A NATURAL – Bumped on jumping. Became momentarily awkwardly placed on heels approaching the 800m and was obliged to shift in, momentarily shifting inside the line of the running rail and having to be corrected by its rider. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. Jockey A. Allen was reminded of his obligations under AR131(b) to ride his mount out fully to the finish.
 
I SURVIVED – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after making contact with the mounting yard fence and passed fit to start. Ridden conservatively in the early stages from the wide barrier to obtain a position with cover.
 
QUEEN OF THE SKIES – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having not raced in an extended period and passed fit to start. Bumped on jumping.
 
LIKE SMOKE – Raced keenly in the early stages before commencing to over-race near the 900m and having to be shifted out and away from heels. Raced wide and without cover for the majority.
 
 
Race 5: COWBOY ROUNDUP CLASS 1 PLATE (1000m)
 
CAPTAIN ARTIE – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced in restricted room for several strides rounding the home-turn. Bumped rounding the home-turn.

HARDNESS – Bumped near the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying an extremely poor post-race recovery which required veterinary treatment. As this was the second consecutive occasion of the gelding displaying a poor post-recovery and requiring on-course veterinary treatment, Trainer P. Webster was advised the gelding would be required to undergo a veterinary examination prior and subsequent to trialling, prior to again being permitted to start in a race. Mr Webster additionally advised he would have blood samples taken from the gelding for analysis in the coming days and advise Stewards of those results.  
 
MORE MAX – Held-up approaching the 300m and was obliged to shift wider to obtain clear running.
.
ASHIGARU – Laid in for some distance near the 800m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ON MERIT – Laid out under pressure in the home straight and bumped near the 200m.
 
DUCHESS OF MILAN – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after racing at Goondiwindi on Saturday, 1 June 2024 and passed fit to start. After beginning only fairly from the wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SISTER GEORGIA – App C. Sutherland was fined $100 under AR143(14)(a) for only claiming 1kg of his 2kg allowance. Raced wide and without cover for a majority of the event. Bumped near the 200m and again near the 100m. App C. Sutherland advised that, in his opinion, the mare felt uncomfortable in its action on returning to the mounting yard. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
HOKUSAI – Began awkwardly.
 
TALK CRAZY – Bumped rounding the home-turn. Attempted to obtain clear running approaching the 200m and bumped. Again, bumped leaving the 200m.
 
 
Race 6: WHERE'S THE BEEF CLASS 1 PLATE (1000m)
 
LOADED GUN – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
SNEAKY SHARK – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Held-up for clear running rounding the home turn before being momentarily disappointed for a run and having to shift out.
 
ESJAY – Bumped on jumping before being crowded between runners. Carried outwards in the early stages of the home straights when TOUTE SWEET shifted out. Bumped leaving the 200m.
 
JOVIAL KID – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
TOUTE SWEET – Held-up for clear running the home-turn. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight in the early stages before continuing out before bumping with ESJAY leaving the 200m. Apprentice S. Callow was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in that she had exercised insufficient effort to straighten her mount.
 
FLY LIKE HELEN – Began awkwardly ad bumped. 
 
JACKIEDOWNTHELINE – Held-up rounding the home-turn and in the early part of the home straight.
 
Following the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a Soft 5.
 
 
Race 7: CRITERION CUP BM60 HANDICAP (1200m)
 
Correct was delayed allowing Stewards to view footage of the home straight regarding AFFINITY FLYER appearing to shift ground into the line of SUPER DUCK approaching the 100m. After viewing the footage, no further action was taken regarding the matter and correct weight was declared on the Judges semaphored numbers.
 
SUPER DUCK – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Over-raced for several strides near the 800m. Passing the 100m, was dictated inwards and hampered when AFFINITY FLYER shifted inwards for several strides. Again, taken inwards passing the winning post. Raced wide for the majority.
 
INVICTUS LAD – Obliged to steady near the 800m and raced keenly for some distance thereafter. Held-up for clear running approaching the 200m when attempting a narrow run between runners which both shifted ground marginally. Went to the line largely untested thereafter. Obliged to steady passing the winning post when crowded for room.
 
AFFINITY FLYER – App J. Williams pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that passing the 100m, he did permit his mount to shift in under heavy riding, dictating the line of SUPER DUCK for several strides which was hampered and became unbalanced as a result. App Williams license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, commencing Wednesday, 12 June 2024 up to and including Wednesday 19 June 2024. In assessing penalty, Stewards considered the interference to be in the low-range, however deemed the carelessness of the shift to be in the mid-range, Stewards also noted App Williams record in relation to the rule, his guilty plea and that some effort had been made to correct his mount however these efforts were deemed to be minimal at too late of a juncture in the shift. Again, passing the winning post, shifted in crowding SUPER DUCK onto PALATIAL PRINCE into the line of INVICTUS LAD, which was obliged to steady. App J. Williams was severely reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding. When questioned regarding his riding out over the concluding stages, App J. Williams stated he had misjudged the winning post, however, was also being mindful of the mare’s racing manners and her tendency to lay in and was therefore unable to ride out fully to the finish with his usual vigour. Stewards noted the explanation, however nonetheless reminded App Williams of his obligations under AR131(b).
 
NEW YORK GAL – Raced wide and without cover in the early stages. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
PALATIAL PRINCE – Shifted in approaching the 800m to obtain a position closer to the running rail when not fully clear of INVICTUS LAD which was obliged to steady. Jockey H. Richardson was severely reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding as a result. Taken inwards and crowded passing the winning post.
 
GALEKA – Obliged to shift wider around heels leaving the 100m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
CRAIGLEA LA VIE – Began awkwardly and bumped. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
KOONDEEMAN – Began awkwardly and bumped. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 8: FIFTY SHADES OF GREY BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP   (1400m)
 
FRECKLE ROCK – Began very awkwardly, shifted in and bumped. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
 
MR WANDJI – Began awkwardly and bumped soon after the start. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages when being restrained in an effort to obtain a position with cover. Held-up rounding the home-turn and obliged to shift wider to obtain clear running entering the home straight.
 
MISTA OMEGA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
TANGO FAME – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
FLASH ZARIZ – Bumped before being hampered between runners on jumping. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
FUN SPONGE – Raced wide and without cover until the 1000m.
 
TOBA – Bumped soon after the start. Held-up for clear running in the early part of the home straight.
 
LEERY – Ridden conservatively in the early stages to obtain a position with cover.
 
 
Race 9: EASE UP TURBO BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP (1400m)
 
UNION SPIRIT – Began only fairly. Laid out for some distance passing the 500m. Directed out and around heels approaching the 300m and bumped JOY MCCOY who was obliged to steady. App J. McMurray was advised to exercise greater care.
 
MISTER HEMSWORTH (IRE) – Began awkwardly. Improved onto heels passing the 500m having to be steadied and shifted wider. Held-up for clear running entering the home straight.
 
JOY MCCOY (NZ) – Raced keenly for some distance passing the 1000m. Crowded and momentarily eased between runners approaching the 500m. Again, crowded between runners approaching the 300m and bumped. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
LITTLE SHOW – Bumped on jumping. Bumped approaching the 200m.
 
UNIQUE ELLE – Began awkwardly, bumped heavily and lost ground soon after jumping.
 
MIDNIGHT BOOM – Began awkwardly. Crowded between runners and buffeted approaching the 200m.
 
SUPER RUPERT – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in for some distance passing the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
