Race 4: DALBY CREDIT UNION RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP 1400m

Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to consider a protest lodged by Jockey N Fazackerley, rider of 2nd placegetter ASHIGARU, against 1st placegetter MISHANI PERSUASION (App J Metcalfe) citing interference at the top of the home straight and near the 50m. After taking evidence from the riders and connections and viewing the official patrol footage Stewards determined that on entering the home straight MISHANI PERSUASION had shifted out under pressure and bumped with ASHIGARU, taking that runner off its line of running. Also, that near the 50m MISHANI PERSUASION had laid out under pressure and bumped with ASHIGARU. Stewards noted that prior to the bump near the 50m, ASHIGARU had been improving its position against MISHANI PERSUASION, before flattening on its run for several strides on being bumped, before again narrowing the margin over the concluding stages. In considering the matter in its entirety, including the ½ head margin, Stewards were comfortable satisfied that the interference incurred by ASHIGARU had a tangible effect on the finishing order of the runners concerned and subsequently upheld the protest and declared correct weight with the placings amended accordingly.
