Race 3: DALBY & DISTRICT RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP (1200m)

Stewards considered an objection lodged by Apprentice D. Bennett, the rider of the third-placed DREAMSEEKER against MOTION SENSOR (Apprentice S. Pointon) being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 200m. Stewards after hearing evidence from the relevant parties and viewing the Stewards’ patrol footage, established that leaving the 200m, MOTION SENSOR had shifted in under pressure, placing DREAMSEEKER in restricted room for several strides when subsequently becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of BOOK OF EXODUS. Stewards however bearing in mind the degree of interference, the official margin of 2 lengths, and that there was also a marginal shift outwards from BOOK OF EXODUS when DREAMSEEKER became placed in restricted room, could not be satisfied that had this incident not occurred that DREAMSEEKER would have finished in advanced of MOTION SENSOR, and therefore the objection was dismissed, and correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers.

SUISSE SCANDAL – Began awkwardly before buffeted between runners making heavy contact with APPLECROSS. Raced keenly in the early stages. Jockey M. Goring was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a), in that leaving the 200m, he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of KYOGLE KID, which was tightened for room, obliged to check, and clipped heels. Apprentice Goring’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days, commencing Sunday, 10 November 2024, up to and including Monday, 18 November 2024. In assessing penalty, Stewards considered the level of carelessness to be in the low range, however the degree of interference in the high range, Apprentice Goring’s unblemished record in relation to the rule of careless riding, and not guilty plea. Apprentice Goring was advised of his rights to an appeal.

KYOGLE KID – Improved into a run to the inside of SUISSE SCANDAL leaving the 200m, before being tightened for room when that runner shifted in, clipping that runner’s heels and badly blundering.

MOTION SENSOR – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. Blundered rounding the home-turn. Laid in under pressure leaving the 200m, before continuing to shift in resulting in DREAMSEEKER being crowded onto the heels of BOOK OF EXODUS. Apprentice S. Pointon was advised to exercise greater care.

APPLECROSS – Crowded between runners on jumping and in doing so made heavy contact with SUISSE SCANDA.

HARLEQUIN FIELD – Bumped leaving the 50m when SKYFORGER.

REGGAE FIRE – Improved onto heels before becoming held-up for clear running rounding the home-turn. When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey L. Tilley advised that he had been instructed to not use the whip on the gelding, and after obtaining clear running leaving the 300m, that it had proved very disappointing when placed under pressure in the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards subsequently questioned Trainer A. Rogers in relation to the tactics adopted on the gelding, specifically in relation to that it had been advised to Jockey Tilley to not use the whip. Mr Rogers subsequently advised that in his opinion, the gelding resents it. Mr Rogers was subsequently severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR100(1)(b) in that he failed to notify such tactics to Stewards prior to the running of the race. In assessing the matter, Stewards noted the short time in which Mr Rogers had held a trainer’s license.
