Stewards – W. Glass

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Toowoomba – Tuesday 5 November 2024 - Race 5: Southern Cross Sheds 0 - 52 Handicap (1300m)
TRUE PATRIOT – Apprentice M. Goring was subsequently fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR143(14)(a) for failing to claim his full allowance on the gelding. Apprentice Goring was further reprimanded under the provisions of AR128(2) for leaving the course without permission.

Race 1: ROTARY CLUB OF AUSTRALIA QTIS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP (1400m)

Correct weight was delayed allowing Stewards to view the photo finish for fourth. Once satisfied that there was no margin present between BRINGME and SHOTGUN SIXTYFOUR, Stewards determined a dead-heat and correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers.

HE’S A DEVIL – Slow to begin.

THE SHAMAN – Raced keenly in the early stages.

ARTIE’S DREAMTIME – Late scratching at 12:49pm after undergoing a veterinary examination behind the barriers at the request of the rider and was subsequently deemed unsuitable to race. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies invested on the gelding to be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply to all successful wagers placed prior to 12:49pm:

27 cents for the win
19 cents for the place

Trainer G. Schrader was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again.

MUIRON – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. Commenced to give ground leaving the 400m. Jockey C. Rogers advised in her opinion, that the gelding was better suited on dirt tracks, and did not appreciate racing on the turf surface on this occasion.

SHOTGUN SIXTYFOUR – Held up for clear running rounding the home-turn. Again, became held-up for clear running approaching the 100m when awkwardly placed on the heels of THE SHAMAN.

JUBILANT – Laid in rounding the home-turn proving difficult to ride out.

THE STONE MASON – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey S. Apthorpe reported after travelling well throughout the early and middle stages, the gelding failed to let down when placed under pressure and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

MISHANI PERSUASION – Began awkwardly.

Following the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a Good 3.

Race 2: BLACK DIAMOND EARTHMOVING & QUARRYING RATINGS BAND 0-60 HANDICAP (1200m)

BASIL’S BOW – Slow to begin before failing to muster sufficient speed in the early stages and subsequently tailed the field for some distance.

BOSTON CITY – Became awkwardly placed on the heels of SEA COMMITS leaving the 400m whilst laying in, before being corrected by its rider.

LETS DANCE JANDY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

ROCONONO – When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice L. O’Donnell stated the gelding failed to let down when placed under pressure, and in her opinion may not have handled the firmer track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.

THIEF BY NIGHT – Stewards accepted the explanation for the late declaration of Apprentice C. Lowe as the rider of the gelding. Raced keenly for some distance passing the 1000m when being restrained to obtain a position with cover. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

KYOGLE KID – Slow to begin.

ZIN ZAN READY – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room for some distance passing the 100m.

Race 3: LITTLE TRICKY’S CLEANING MAIDEN PLATE (1100m)

ALZURRI – Shifted in abruptly leaving the 200m before racing in restricted room for some distance leaving the 100m between the running rail and LADY ZAYDI. Apprentice S. Pointon, in the presence of Jockey H. Richardson, agreed in hindsight, that remaining in her original position between LADY ZAYDI and PRINCESS LUTETIA, which ultimately provided a run with sufficient room to improve into, would have better served her mount an opportunity of obtaining clear running sooner, when it became there would be insufficient room to improve to the inside of LADY ZAYDI over the concluding stages. In assessing the matter, Stewards noted this was Apprentice Pointon’s fourth race-meeting she had attended.

CASINO CAT – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

MUMMIFICATION – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

ROSTOPCHIN – Stewards acceded to a late gear request from Trainer P. Wallace for the gelding to wear blinkers and a tongue tie. Mr Wallace was subsequently fined the sum of $100 under the provisions of AR206(1). In assessing penalty and allowing the gear change, Stewards noted Mr Wallace’s exceptional record in relation to the rules of racing generally.

PRINCESS LUTETIA – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in for some distance passing the 400m crowding LADY ZAYDI.

LADY ZAYDI – Crowded for some distance passing the 400m when PRINCESS LUTETIA laid in.

MERRON DARCY – Stewards accepted the late explanation of Jockey D. Boutet as the rider of the filly. Jockey Boutet was further permitted to ride the filly 0.5kg over the allotted weight of 56kg. Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages.

Race 4: WESTERN DOWNS CIVIL COUNTRY STAMPEDE QUALIFIER OPEN HANDICAP (1100m)

MILL ROSSA – Shifted out when racing keenly near the 1000m, before bumping VILLADEN. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

SKYFORGER – When asked to comment on the performance of the gelding, Apprentice C. Lowe advised that the gelding, which had been racing over further distances this preparation, was left flat-footed early and unable to muster sufficient speed to maintain contact with the remainder of the gelding. She added this proved detrimental to its winning chances, however the gelding finished off the event well. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

VILLADEN (NZ) – Stewards intend to inquire into an incident near the 1000m which saw Apprentice Lenton having to take hold of the gelding. Held-up for clear running rounding the home-turn when awkwardly placed on the heels of GRAEWAZI. Again became held-up on the heels of TYPHOON TIP approaching the 200m before shifting out to obtain clear running. Laid in under pressure and bumped TYPHOON TIP leaving the 100m before being corrected by its rider.

SMILING ZAC (NZ) – Began awkwardly and bumped.

I AM FEARLESS – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Jockey H. Richardson advised in her opinion, that the gelding was better suited over shorter distances.

LEGEND OF ZORRO – Stewards permitted Apprentice L. O’Donnell to ride the gelding 0.5kg over the allotted weight of 55kg when no other rider was available at the weight. Apprentice L. O’Donnell was subsequently fined the sum of $100 under the provisions of AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. In assessing penalty, Stewards noted her very good recent record in relation to the rule. Began awkwardly. Held-up for clear running rounding the home-turn.

GRAEWAZI – Cast its off fore-plate in the mounting yard which necessitated it to be reshod. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and passed fit to start. Began awkwardly. Laid out rounding the home-turn and bumped TYPHOON TIP.

TYPHOON TIP – Stewards intend to inquire into an incident near the 1000m which saw Apprentice Pointon having to take hold of the mare. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. Bumped rounding the home-turn and carried wider when GRAEWAZI laid out. Again bumped near the 100m when VILLADEN laid in under pressure before being corrected by its rider.

Race 5: CHINCHILLA RSL BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP (1000m)

DONMORE GIRL – Began awkwardly. Apprentice M. Goring dropped his whip near the 200m when racing tight with MERCHANT MOON and bumping that runner.

MERCHANT MOON – Slow to begin before being crowded between runners. Laid in near the 200m and bumped DONMORE GIRL.

BEAN GROOVY – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

VANCOUVER QUEEN – Bumped soon after the start. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

DUSTINS – Began awkwardly and bumped. Bumped again soon after the start.

ROGUE ARTIST – Began awkwardly.

ANNAKURI – Blundered rounding the home-turn. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice K. Lenton advised that the gelding felt uncomfortable in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off-hindleg. Trainer V. Heading was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again.

VALAR DOHAERIS – Became awkwardly placed on the heels of BEAN GROOVY for some distance passing the 600m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
