WEATHER – FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - OUT 6M ALL TRACK
RACE 1: TOTAL BUILDING MAINTENANCE H'CAP - 1200M
DRAMA AMOUR jumped away very awkwardly and lost ground.
SIREC shifted in soon after the start resulting in ROBBITE and CRONICK being cramped for room.
CRONICK was inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.
RACE 2: COCA-COLA H'CAP - 1350M
As C Maund was indisposed and as no other apprentice was available, permission was granted for senior rider M Bennett to be substituted as the rider of LOVE TO HONOUR.
As A Gillett was to be overweight, M Carson was substituted as the rider of JAVA HEART. A Gillett was fined $50.
N Tomizawa, the rider of BANYAN BAY, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that approaching the 400m he directed his mount outwards, resulting in HEAVENLY BELLE being forced out on to ZAPATEADO which blundered badly when contacted by HEAVENLY BELLE. LOVE TO HONOUR, which was racing to the outside of ZAPATEADO, had to be checked and ran wide. N Tomizawa was suspended for a period of 8 meetings to commence at midnight on Sunday, 16 April, and expire at midnight on Monday, 1 May.
BLESSED TYCOON was held up for clear running over the final 100m.
CHOCKERS was held up for clear running over the concluding stages.
RACE 3: LEVER REXONA H'CAP - 1010M
CENTONA shifted in abruptly at the start, severely hampering KEEP COMING which in turn was tightened on to the hind quarters of HERACLES. Following this incident KEEP COMING then raced most ungenerously and hung out throughout the middle stages.
BROWN DIRT COWBOY raced greenly in the early and middle stages and brushed the running rail of its own accord at the 600m.
At the 700m ACE CLUB lost ground after being cramped for room by HERACLES which in turn was taken in by HOODED GEM.
At the 600m SOPHIE’S RIVAL lost ground after being tightened for room by VAIN HALO which at that stage shifted in despite the efforts of its rider M Paget. SENET PETE, which was following, had to be checked and in turn HOODED GEM was inconvenienced.
At the 200m J Byrne, the rider of SENET PETE, had his whip accidentally knocked from his grasp by the whip of M Paget, the rider of VAIN HALO.
The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that KEEP COMING had cuts to the inside of its mouth.
RACE 4: TOLL GROUP H'CAP - 1640M
Whilst parading behind the barriers, INVOICE was kicked by another runner. Subsequently, acting on the advice of the Club's veterinary surgeon who reported that the horse sustained bruising to the near stifle, INVOICE was declared a late withdrawal at 2.14 p.m. On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered that all moneys invested on INVOICE be refunded with deductions of 9 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place bets applicable.
After travelling 100m ARGYLE LASS had to be steadied off the heels of SWAGGART, which was taken in by EPIC FLYER.
LISTON pulled hard in the early stages which resulted in that horse’s saddle shifting forward for a short distance.
DOOLEY’S DREAM also pulled hard in the early and middle stages.
The 2nd placegetter SWAGGART collapsed some distance after the winning post. The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that SWAGGART had died from a suspected internal haemorrhage. Acting under the powers of AR 142, stewards declared correct weight without requiring M Paget, the rider of SWAGGART, to weigh in. M Paget escaped injury when SWAGGART collapsed.
RACE 5: NESTLES H'CAP - 2100M
As A Russell was indisposed, D Walsh was substituted as the rider of BOZEMAN.
BOZEMAN tended to overrace in the early stages and also made the 1600m crossing very awkwardly.
KEN’S JOY made contact with SERDSTE at the 500m when shifting out to improve.
RACE 6: INGHAMS H'CAP - 1200M
TERJULE was slow to begin.
At the 800m WONDER KICK had to be steadied when momentarily cramped for room by TRUST CLIFF. J Stanley, the rider of TRUST CLIFF, was cautioned and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that TERJULE sustained lacerations to the outside of the off fore cannon.
RACE 7: PAULS LTD SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1200M
CLAYTONS jumped away awkwardly which resulted in its rider J Byrne striking the barrier partition with his right arm.
Both the KILDARE KID and MAKE MINE MAGIC jumped away awkwardly which resulted in MAKE MINE MAGIC making heavy contact with the hind quarters of THE KILDARE KID. As a result of this contact to the hind quarters, THE KILDARE KID then shifted in abruptly across MAKE MINE MAGIC, causing that horse to be severely hampered. ROMANZA, which drew to the inside of MAKE MINE MAGIC, was inconvenienced also.
When the pace slackened at the 650m, CLAYTONS got its head up when being restrained off ELITE TED. At the same stage, MAKE MINE MAGIC ran up on to the heels of POINT and blundered badly.
RACE 8: MORAITIS FRESH PRODUCE H'CAP - 1350M
Trainer R Mackay was fined $50 failing to declare a rider for BISTRO MONEY by the prescribed time.
A Gillette replaced G Duffy as the rider of OUR BANKER as a result of G Duffy becoming indisposed following his ride on THE KILDARE KID.
After being fractious in the barriers, VIA SINAI was slow to begin.
Rounding the home turn BISTRO MONEY was held up behind the tiring OUR BANKER.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
