WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 11M. ALL TRACK
RACE 1: THE COURIER MAIL H'CAP - 2160M.
SEMI JEWEL jumped in the air as the gates opened and lost ground at the start.
ARCH'S CHARGER was slow to begin.
KARMA COUNTY made the first turn awkwardly and became unbalanced.
Near the 1400m., KARMA COUNTY, which had a tendency to race ungenerously, was momentarily tightened for room by PINBALL WIZARD, which shifted in marginally.
Rounding the home turn, KARMA COUNTY was momentarily tightened as a result of PHILIDOR shifting in.
A veterinary examination of RED PYRAMID following the race revealed the horse had aggravated an old injury to the near hind fetlock in running.
RACE 2: CARLTON DRAUGHT H'CAP - 1350M.
CARNEGIE ROCK was tightened for room at the start between TELEVON and JUST THE BEST, which was taken in by REDGRAVE.
REDGRAVE was caught wide shortly after the start and was obliged to race wide for the majority of the race.
Near the 800m., REDGRAVE shifted in momentarily, resulting in CARNEGIE ROCK and SEAHAWK DANCER being inconvenienced. Shortly after, OUTBACK OPUS, which was trailing SEAHAWK DANCER, shifted out, taking CHIC BROAD wider on the track.
REZIDENCIA was held up for clear running and could not improve from the 600m. until inside the 400m..
Near the 200m., GUARDED HONOUR shifted out, taking SEAHAWK DANCER out on to TELAVON, which was tightened when yielding ground. At the same time, OUTBACK OPUS and REZIDENCIA were tightened as a result of REDGRAVE, which was racing to the outside, shifting in when under pressure.
TAI CHI had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 100m..
A veterinary examination of REZIDENCIA following the race revealed that the horse was suffering from shin soreness in the near foreleg.
RACE 3: MOET & CHANDON H'CAP - 1660M.
SURPRISE ATTACK jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
LORD KALA was slow to begin.
Near the 1400m., BOLD PROSPECT, which was inclined to race fiercely, had to be steadied and shifted out as a result of BANKER UNDER FIRE shifting in when not sufficiently clear. M. Cahill, rider of BANKER UNDER FIRE, was severely reprimanded and instructed to allow sufficient room when crossing.
As the pace slowed after leaving the 1100m., NED'S DEVINE commenced to pull hard, and near the 1000m. whilst overracing, had to be steadied off the heels of BANKER UNDER FIRE, which shifted in.
In the vicinity of the 300m., TRULY BRAVE, when shifting out to improve around the heels of NED'S DEVINE, made contact with the hind quarters of KWILA SPIRIT.
RACE 4: HONG KONG TOURISM BOARD/GLENLOGAN PARK H'CAP - 1350M.
IS THAT IT, which took charge of its rider in the preliminary and galloped for some distance, was withdrawn by stewards at 2.03 p.m. after consultation with the club's veterinary surgeon. CUMBRIA jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. CUMBRIA was then obliged to race wide in the early stages and also obliged to race wide rounding the home turn.
Near the 1200m., TELINDA LAD, which was inclined to race fiercely, shifted in and made contact with MARLOCK. TELINDA LAD continued to overrace for some distance.
B. Swanton, rider of KANGAROO POINT, was cautioned for permitting his mount to shift in approaching the finishing line, causing AGITATOR to be tightened for room. A short distance after the winning post, AGITATOR had to be steadied off the heels of KANGAROO POINT, which continued to shift in.
RACE 5: CASTLEMAINE PERKINS H'CAP - 1200M.
Trainer J. Dawes was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for TUNE TO by the required time.
LADY TRICE and LADY ARAMAC made contact on jumping away.
VIVID MISS was slow to begin.
Near the 300m., TUNE TO had to be steadied off the heels of LADY ARAMAC, which shifted in under pressure.
On pulling up, M. Cahill was dislodged from MISS PARIS.
When questioned concerning the riding tactics of LADY TRICE, M. Rodd explained that he had anticipated taking up a position midfield, however from his draw he was caught wide in the early stages and in an effort to gain cover he eased the mare, and felt there was no option available other than to race at the rear of the field. Trainer Mrs H. Page confirmed the instructions that the horse was to be ridden midfield, however conceded that M. Rodd was a victim of circumstances and had no other option but to settle the mare at the rear of the field to gain cover rather then be caught wide. The explanations were noted.
RACE 6: ANSETT AUSTRALIA H'CAP - 1200M.
REGAL GARTER struck the inside barrier gate on jumping away.
FLYING SOVEREIGN jumped awkwardly.
CAPANNELLE was slow to begin.
K. Pope reported that near the 600m., CAPANNELLE commenced to hang out, and shortly after when attempting to straighten the horse, his saddle shifted, placing him at a distinct disadvantage for the remainder of the event.
Near the finish line, GLENNAL had to be steadied to avoid the heels of the tiring BANDIERA.
K. Mahoney reported that the cross-over noseband on FLYING SOVEREIGN broke and that the gelding commenced to hang out as a consequence over the concluding stages.
RACE 7: NETWORK TEN H'CAP - 1140M.
The connections of MIGHTY BOMBER, which proved difficult to load, will be advised that a warning has been placed against the horse.
MIGHTY BOMBER blundered on jumping away.
APPALACHE was slow to begin.
An inquiry will be held into the reason for FOREST SPRITE sustaining interference approaching the 200m..
S. Katsidis, rider of the winner Officer Material, was fined $50 for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram over his declared riding weight.
RACE 8: TREASURY CASINO SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1140M.
Trainer R. Heathcote was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for COMMAND FORCE by the required time. R. Heathcote was further fined $25 for presenting COMMAND FORCE to the enclosure with blinkers when the gelding does not wear such gear.
COMMAND FORCE and KING COCKY made heavy contact on jumping away.
LALIDRAMBA and MAN ON A MISSION made heavy contact approximately 50 metres after the start.
Near the 500m., MAN ON A MISSION, which was travelling keenly, had to be steadied off the heels of LALIDRAMBA.
MAN ON A MISSION was reluctant to take a run to the outside of KUMPEL ANTON on straightening, and then had a tendency to lay in over the concluding stages.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
