BRISBANE TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT.1.9.01

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr A. Reardon (Chairman), Mr J. Hackett, Mr C. Clune, Mr G. Hargraves, Mr W. Geggie, Mr C. Ferguson (Cadet).

WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - GOOD RAIL - OUT 5M. ALL TRACK

GENERAL: As J. Piper was indisposed the following riding substitutions were permitted: Race 5. LIGHT FUSE - M. Carson; Race 7. SPORTS FREAK - K. Pope; Race 8. REPRENDRE - V. Schweida.

RACE 1: QUEENSLAND HOTELS ASSOCIATION H'CAP - 1630M.

WISHART was inclined to hang in under pressure in the straight, and near the 100m. dipped.


RACE 2: PROSAIL H'CAP - 2100M.

PHILIDOR shifted in on jumping away, taking TRISTRAM'S SHOW in on to ANOTHER OFFCUT, which made contact with the hind quarters of DISSENT.

TRISTRAM'S SHOW had a tendency to hang in throughout the event.


RACE 3: 2001 GOODWILL GAMES BRISBANE H'CAP - 1200M.

VIANGAR was slow to begin.

Close to the finish line, VIANGAR shifted out, inconveniencing OFFICER MATERIAL.


RACE 4: CARLTON MID H'CAP - 1350M.

When questioned, trainer A. Bailey could not offer any excuses for the disappointing performance of DASHING IMAGE, and undertook to report to stewards if any abnormality becomes apparent when the horse returns to its stable. A veterinary examination of DASHING IMAGE failed to reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken.



RACE 5: HAMILTON ISLAND H'CAP - 1350M.

TARANTULA was a late scratching at 7.55 a.m. on veterinary advice. A veterinary certificate was submitted.

REGAL GARTER shifted in on jumping away and made heavy contact with RISING ROYAL.

MACROSTRIKE and JUST GUS were slow to begin.

After being tightened for room near the 1100m., LIGHT FUSE commenced to pull hard, and approaching the 800m., shifted out and made contact with MANAWAA.

JUST GUS was unable to obtain clear running over the final 100m..



RACE 6: ALAN BAILEY/ROYSTON STUD H'CAP - 1350M.

As the gates were released, NAFANA reared and lost considerable ground.

OPAL RAINBOW was slow to begin.

When the pace slowed passing the 1200m., OPAL RAINBOW had to be checked off the heels of MONBRIANNE.

After leaving the 800m., OPAL RAINBOW was unable to improve from behind the heels of SEAHAWK MISS until near the 600m..


RACE 7: HEART FOUNDATION H'CAP - 1200M.

SPORTS FREAK was slow to begin.

NAKED EYE and MR. VELOCHEE jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

J. Stanley, rider of STARS IN BARS, was cautioned for permitting his mount to shift in after leaving the 1000m. when not quite clear of LORD HOBBITT, which resulted in a tightening to NAKED EYE and POKING AROUND.

Approaching the 800m., NAKED EYE had to be checked and was taken in on to POKING AROUND when that gelding improved to the inside of LORD HOBBITT where there was insufficient room.

M. Cahill reported that he had been instructed to settle CITIBEST in the early stages, however the horse was forced to race wide and failed to respond to his riding from the 600 metres and proved most disappointing. A veterinary examination of CITIBEST following the event failed to reveal any abnormality.


RACE 8: SUNCORP METWAY SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1110M.

REPRENDRE and GROOVY MISS were slow to begin.

RUN JUST RUN hung out making the first turn and continued to race wide for the remainder of the event, forcing FOREVER AMEN wider on the track. Trainer R. Maund was advised that RUN JUST RUN would be required to barrier trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

Passing the 800m., CONDAMINE LASS had to be restrained to avoid the heels of ILLUMINAR, which shifted in. J. Stanley, rider of ILLUMINAR, was severely reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground.
Near the 300m., DANEWIN BEAUTY shifted in and made contact with POLENTA, which became slightly unbalanced.




ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
