BRISBANE TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT WED.10.9.03

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr D. Hensler (Chairman), Mr J. Hackett, Mr G. Hargraves, Mr J. Graham, Mr C. Waller (Cadet).

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 10M. ALL TRACK


RACE 1: GIANNIS RESTAURANT H'CAP -1650M.

ASSENTING jumped outwards at the start and bumped ULTIMATE FORCE, then shifted back in and made contact with CROMBIE.

IN NIUGINI commenced to race fiercely when being steadied rounding the first turn.

ULTIMATE FORCE was obliged to race wide throughout the event.


RACE 2:WYNDHAM ESTATE H'CAP - 1350M.

HABITUE and GLASSHOUSE came together at the start.

STAR DUCHESS was slow to begin.

Leaving the 1000m., when the pace slackened, RHODA'S ROSE had to be restrained off the heels of CHIQUITITA. RADOMA, which was following, also commenced to race fiercely when being restrained off RHODA'S ROSE.


RACE 3: KATE SMITH H'CAP - 1200M.

RUNOBIT jumped outwards at the start, and after making heavy contact with RANKS, shifted back in, crowding BUSKING and BREAKFAST TALK on to CORRIENTE.

Shortly after the start, BUSKING had to be checked off the heels of RUNOBIT, which laid in despite the efforts of its rider.

Rounding the first turn, MIQUELT commenced to race with its head in the air and lost ground after shifting out towards the heels of RANKS.

RUNOBIT was obliged to race wide throughout the event.


RACE 4: ICCI QUEENSLAND H'CAP - 1650M.

ARBORELLE jumped outwards at the start and hampered SUNFAIR.

Passing the 1000m., SUNFAIR threw its head in the air when being restrained off the heels of TORINY.

Rounding the home turn, SUNFAIR shifted out and forced MALTESE LINER wider on the track.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ILLANDO, Z. Purton stated that rounding the first turn, the gelding was inclined to get out, and when being restrained threw its head in the air and lost ground. He further explained that approaching the 1100m. and at the 700m., the gelding again had to be restrained and raced ungenerously. A post race veterinary examination of ILLANDO revealed lacerations to the inside of the mouth.

When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of CHIMING MILL, G. Colless stated that he was instructed to ride the gelding in a forward position today if possible. These were consistent with the instructions at the previous start, however he was trapped wide throughout the event on that occasion and did not run on in the straight. He further explained that today he found the lead easily and after not being challenged for that position, ran out a strong race. This explanation was noted.


RACE 5: PARRELLA TILES H'CAP - 1350M.

GREAT MEMORY was declared a late scratching at 1.02 p.m. on veterinary advice.

Leaving the 900m., MAINLAND threw its head in the air and lost ground when being restrained.

Approaching the first turn, TITO had to be steadied off the heels of TAILOR, which shifted in. J. Taylor, rider of TAILOR, was advised to exercise more care in future. A short distance later, TITO again had to be steadied off the heels of MIGHTY SURVIVOR, which shifted in. G. Birney, rider of MIGHTY SURVIVOR, will also be advised to exercise more care in future. An inquiry was adjourned into G. Birney's (MIGHTY SURVIVOR) failure to seek a clearance before leaving the track.

Shortly after entering the straight, JUNGLE RUM shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so bumped SHOTPUT on to FRENCH DAGGER.

Approaching the 200m., BROWN BRIDGE shifted in under pressure and made contact with FRENCH DAGGER, which became unbalanced and in turn shifted in and forced SHOTPUT on to the hind quarters of JUNGLE RUM. SHOTPUT had to be checked in this incident. D. Tanti, rider of BROWN BRIDGE, was severely reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground in future. In issuing a reprimand, stewards took into account the fact that D. Tanti had made an effort to straighten his mount after it had commence to shift in.


RACE 6: G-Z RSL LIGHTHORSE H'CAP - 2060M.

Trainer M. Dux contacted stewards and advised that PRINCE ADDAMA had swelling under its jaw consistent with having been bitten. In his opinion, the gelding was not fit to race and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 12.31 a.m.. Trainer Dux undertook to provide stewards with a veterinary certificate.

As J. Hooper was indisposed, C. Small was substituted as the rider of OUR SIAM

OUR SIAM was slow to begin.

OUR SIAM was obliged to race wide throughout the middle stages.

CLIQUE commenced to hang out rounding the home turn and shifted outwards when placed under pressure in the straight.


RACE 7: ADRIANS CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS H'CAP - 1200M.

The start of this event was delayed when DOCTOR BLANCH proved difficult to load. Trainer T. Gollan was advised that a warning was being placed on that gelding.

COGNISANT jumped inwards at the start, hampering MISS RUTHERFORD.

STAR GROOM jumped inwards at the start, tightening DON'T SAY GOODBYE onto CANNY NORTHERNER.

STRATUS was obliged to race wide throughout the event.

L. Morrison, rider of ALFONSO, was reminded of her obligations to fully ride her mounts right to the finish of the race.


RACE 8: WYNDHAM ESTATE BIN 333 H'CAP - 1350M.

MR. CENTREFOLD jumped outwards at the start and brushed STORMY JOE.

MIDNIGHT DEAL was slow to begin.


RACE 9: WYNDHAM ESTATE BIN 555 H'CAP - 1350M.

NOBLE CASTE was slow to begin.

STORM SCENE jumped outwards at the start and made contact with CANNY CRUISE.

Inside the 300m., SADDLE BOY had to be momentarily steadied off the heels of STORM SCENE, which shifted out to improve.

GRACE'S ROSES was obliged to race wide throughout the event.



ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
