Race 1: AIR NEW ZEALAND PLATE – 1350M
1st – Masai Pride 2nd – Con Con 3rd – Duke Sam 4th - Zauberei
As C. Johnson failed to have the obligatory liability insurance, M. Rodd was substituted as the rider of DARKSIDE LASS (M. Rodd).
MASAI PRIDE (J. Byrne) and LIMARKI (R. Mason) were slow to begin.
SAMDIN (G. Lynch) was tightened on jumping away between DARKSIDE LASS (M. Rodd) and RUM DUM (A. Pattillo) which shifted out.
BIKKIE TIN BLUES (R. McMahon) and MYAGI (S. Galloway) came together on jumping away.
CHASIN’ TAIL (M. Radecker), PARTRIDGE (S. Seamer) and MR SPORTSMAN (S. Drake) were all forced to race wide for the majority of the event.
Passing the 800m ZAUBEREI (J. Bowditch), which was inclined to overrace, had to be steadied off the heels of LUST FOR VICTORY (B. Pengelly).
Passing the 300m CON CON (D. Moor) shifted out and made contact with the hind quarters of PARTRIDGE. CON CON then shifted back in and made contact with BITABIFF (K. Forrester).
J. Byrne, the rider of MASAI PRIDE, was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out after passing the 300m and in doing so tightening the running of BIKKIE TIN BLUES (R. McMahon).
REGIMENTAL (K. Pope) was held up for clear running from after passing the 300m.
DARKSIDE LASS was held up for clear running from shortly after straightening until approaching the 100m.
SAMDIN was held up for clear running from after passing the 300m until near the winning post.
Race 2: HARDY BROTHERS JEWELLERS 2MW LY H’CAP – 1620M
1st - Gemstone 2nd – Mr Hornblower 3rd – Rampant Lion 4th – King Of Soul
MAMELUKE (R. McMahon) was slow to begin.
RAMPANT LION (J. Bowditch) and WHAT A GUY (M. Morris) were placed in restricted room on jumping away between SPINNING CON (D. Moor) and MR HORNBLOWER (G. Colless) which shifted in.
GEMSTONE (M. Rodd) was tightened on jumping away between TELLEM (S. Katsidis) and PARTY EXPRESS (K. Forrester).
Approaching the 1400m FIERY SUNSET (S. Seamer) had to be momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of CEFFYL (G. Lynch) which shifted in.
SPINNING CON was inclined to overrace in the early and middle stages.
DOONAN DANCER (A. Pattillo) was forced to race wide in the early stages.
WHAT A GUY raced wide in the middle stages.
Approaching the 200m DOONAN DANCER and PARTY EXPRESS brushed.
MAMELUKE laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on CEFFYL today as opposed to its previous start, jockey G. Lynch stated that he was instructed by connections to ride the horse forward and if possible lead as they were of the opinion that the race lacked speed. He added that the horse had led previously over a similar distance at Eagle Farm on 3 December 2005. Trainer R. Maund stated that the horse had led previously in its career and the connections were of the opinion that there was very little speed in the race today. Stewards noted Mr Maund’s explanation, however advised him that he had an obligation to advise stewards if they intended to ride the horse contrary to its normal racing pattern.
Race 3: BRISBANE RIVERVIEW DOOMBEN SLIPPER 1350M
1st -Fiveoclockshadow 2nd - Lasoron 3rd - Tantra 4th – Sovereign General
The saddle of MR BACHELOR (G. Colless) shifted forward shortly after the start.
TWOSTONELIGHTER (S. King) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
SOVEREIGN GENERAL (S. Seamer) jumped away awkwardly.
Passing the 1100m FIVEOCLOCKSHADOW commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of TANTRA (Z. Purton).
Approaching the first turn PIRATE QUEEN (S. Galloway) ran up on to the heels of DIVINITY DASH (M. Rodd) and had to be steadied. PIRATE QUEEN then shifted out, inconveniencing PREY FOR PEACE (A. Pattillo).
SOVEREIGN GENERAL was obliged to race wide in the early stages.
SO STEP IN LINE (B. Pengelly), MINDIL BEACH (M. Morris) and PREY FOR PEACE were forced to race wide throughout.
Near the 250m MR BACHELOR shifted out to improve around the heels of FIVEOCLOCKSHADOW and in doing so inconvenienced STYLIZED (K. Pope) and SAVEDBYTHEBELL (J. Holder).
Shortly after straightening LASORON (J. Byrne) shifted out to improve and brushed DIVINITY DASH.
When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on TANTRA today as opposed to its previous start on 20 May 2006, jockey Z. Purton stated that he was instructed by connections to ride the horse forward today as at its previous start they were of the opinion that she did not perform to expectation when being back in the field. Trainer G. Waterhouse stated that connections had intended to ride TANTRA forward last week, however due to circumstances were unable to do so. Trainer G. Waterhouse was reminded of her obligations to inform stewards should connections intend to ride any of her horses in a manner which is contrary to the way it was ridden at its previous start irrespective of the instructions given.
Race 4: CITY PACIFIC FINANCE PERMIER’S CUP – 2200M
1st - Coalesce 2nd - Holidazzle 3rd – Haylee Baylee 4th – Douro Valley
As L. Cook was to be 1 kilogram overweight, and as no other rider was available, K. Pope was permitted to ride MAKIN LOVE half a kilogram over the declared weight. L. Cook was fined $200 under AR. 120(b).
A pre-race veterinary examination of HAYLEE BAYLEE cleared the mare to race.
SIR COUP (R. McMahon) was tightened on jumping away between COALESCE (D. Beadman) and HELLO POSSUMS (J. Holder) which shifted out.
BOHEMIAN DANCER (M. Rodd) and RUE THE SAINT (K. Yoshida) were placed in restricted room on jumping away between CLASSIC KARLA (S. Seamer) and DOURO VALLEY (S. King). RUE THE SAINT and BOHEMIAN DANCER were then obliged to race in restricted room for a short distance.
DRUMBEATER (D. Moor) made the first turn awkwardly.
BAZELLE (S. Arnold) was obliged to race wide in the early stages.
RUE THE SAINT, CLASSIC KARLA and DON’T TELL CLANG (K. Forrester) were forced to race wide for the majority of the event.
Near the 1200m HELLO POSSUMS shifted out and made contact with DON’T TELL CLANG. HELLO POSSUMS was then obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.
Near the 600m PENTATHON (A. Pattillo), which was inclined to lay out, had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room by COALESCE. D. Beadman, the rider of COALESCE, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
SIR COUP was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
Post-race veterinary examinations of BAZELLE and BOHEMIAN DANCER failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 5: SKY CHANNEL DOOMBEN DASH – 1020M
1st – Starlactic 2nd – Sir Breakfast 3rd - Shysu 4th – Any Suggestion
DANCE THE WAVES (G. Colless) was slow to begin.
On jumping away STARLACTIC (R. McMahon) shifted in taking ANY SUGGESTION (B. Pengelly) in on to DIAMONDS AND CHALK (D. Beasley). A short distance later STARLACTIC then shifted out, inconveniencing BECKS (Z. Purton).
NAVAL SEAL (S. Galloway) and NESSUNO (D. Beadman) were forced to race wide throughout.
MURRAY DOWNS (S. Seamer) was inclined to lay out after passing the 800m.
Approaching the 700m SHYSU (S. Katsidis) ran up on to the heels of SHE’S ALL GREEK (R. Mason) and had to be steadied.
Approaching the 500m SHE’S ALL GREEK laid in and had to be steadied off the heels of SIR BREAKFAST (M. Rodd). SHYSU, which was following, had to be steadied and shifted out, making contact with BECKS. BECKS then shifted out and made contact with TESTIFY (M. Morris), which shifted out causing DANCE THE WAVES (G. Colless) to be steadied to avoid that horse’s heels.
Shortly after straightening MURRAY DOWNS, which was racing ungenerously, had to be steadied off the heels of TORNADO ALLEY (J. Byrne).
Near the 300m SIR BREAKFAST shifted out and bumped TORNADO ALLEY.
MURRAY DOWNS raced ungenerously in the straight for some distance.
Close to the finishing line NAVAL SEAL was placed in restricted room between NESSUNO and MURRAY DOWNS, both of which shifted ground.
The Club’s veterinary surgeon reported that TESTIFY sustained a laceration to the outside of the off fore cannon.
Race 6: MULLINS LAWYERS ROUGH HABIT PLATE – 2020M
1st – Belmonte 2nd – Master Denis 3rd – Beauty Watch 4th - Teppanyaki
Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reason for J. Byrne being dually engaged on HARDROCK DIAMOND and STARS IN FLIGHT.
FULMONTI (S. King) jumped in at the start and made contact with SIR SENSIBLE (A. Pattillo) which shifted in and made contact with the hind quarters of MONSZIP (H. Bowman).
Shortly after the start MASTER DENIS (G. Colless) bumped GREENFINDER (M. Cahill).
Passing the winning post on the first occasion BORN TO RULE (J. Bowditch) was placed in restricted room between OUR ROMAN CHARIOT (M. Rodd) and STARS IN FLIGHT (J. Byrne) which commenced to hang out. STARS IN FLIGHT then hung our for the remainder of the event and approaching the 1200m shifted out and was then raced wide for the remainder of the event. Trainer A. Bailey advised stewards that he had removed the butterfly bit for today’s event and replaced it with a lugging bit and this may have contributed to the horse’s racing manners today. Stewards noted Mr Bailey’s explanation and advised him that, should anything come to light in the days subsequent to the event, he should notify stewards. A post-race veterinary examination of STARS IN FLIGHT revealed lacerations inside the mouth on both sides.
HARDROCK DIAMOND (S. Katsidis) was forced to race wide in the early stages.
FULMONTI was forced to race wide for the majority of the event.
Passing the 400m BELMONTE (Z. Purton) ran up on to the heels of FULMONTI and had to be steadied.
Shortly after straightening OUR ROMAN CHARIOT was disappointed for a run between SCULPTOR (C. Johnson) and FULMONTI where there was insufficient room.
Near the 250m VISION AND POWER (M. Zahra) shifted out to improve, inconveniencing SIR SENSIBLE. In this incident VISION AND POWER made contact with LATINO (S. Galloway).
Near the 200m LATINO had to be steadied when placed in restricted room between VISION AND POWER and STARS IN FLIGHT which shifted back in under pressure.
BELMONTE (Z. Purton) laid in in the straight and near the 50m placed BEAUTY WATCH (D. Beasley) in restricted room to the outside of MASTER DENIS.
Race 7: CARLTON DRAUGHT DOOMBEN 10,000 – 1350M
1st - Undue 2nd - Impaler 3rd – Street Smart 4th – Miss Potential
S. Treweek, the rider of IMPALER, was charged with careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that approaching the 1250m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of NEVIS (Z. Purton), which was taken in, causing severe crowding to MISS POTENTIAL (C. Johnson), which was crowded in on to the hind quarters of SHOW BIZ KID (D. Nikolic), resulting in MISS POTENTIAL losing its rightful position. After hearing submissions from jockey S. Treweek, stewards did not sustain the charge as they were of the opinion that CLASSICONI (S. King) shifted out and contributed to the interference to MISS POTENTIAL.
D. Beasley, the rider of FASHIONS AFIELD, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in near the 1100m tightening the running of LA MONTAGNA (S. Galloway) and NEVIS (Z. Purton).
Passing the 1100m NEVIS commenced to overrace and near the 800m shifted out, placing LA MONTAGNA in restricted room.
ALL BAR ONE (G. Colless) was inclined to race ungenerously in the early stages.
DAUNTING LAD (A. Pattillo), FASHIONS AFIELD, SHANIA DANE (D. Beadman) and RED OOG (H. Bowman) were all forced to race wide for the majority of the event.
Passing the 500m SHOW BIZ KID (D. Nikolic), when endeavouring to shift out, made contact with CLASSICONI (S. King).
RED OOG was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.
Passing the 300m COOL FRONT (M. Rodd) ran up on to the heels of VOLITANT (S. Katsidis) and was obliged to alter course inwards.
Approaching the 200m IMPRISONED (J. Byrne) ran up on to the heels of ALL BAR ONE and shifted out abruptly, taking COOL FRONT (M. Rodd) out, inconveniencing RED OOG.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of FASHIONS AFIELD, jockey D. Beasley agreed that the filly’s performance was disappointing and that the filly was under pressure shortly after passing the 800m. He added that in his opinion the filly races better when able to obtain a soft run near the lead. His comments were noted. A post-race veterinary examination of FASHIONS AFIELD failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
A post-race veterinary examination of ALL BAR ONE failed to reveal any abnormalities.
A post-race veterinary examination of NEVIS revealed the mare to be sore in the near foreleg. Trainer D. Payne was advised that he must produce a full veterinary clearance for NEVIS prior to the mare’s next start.
Race 8: ABRISCA COFFEE GUNSYND QUALITY – 1200M
1st - Vocalic 2nd - Mosso 3rd – Dulacca Diva 4th – Anca
HAIGHT ASHBURY (S. Galloway) jumped away awkwardly, taking SEQUESTRATE (D. Nikolic) out on to MOSSO (G. Colless).
Passing the 1000m MANILLA BOY (J. Bowditch) commenced to overrace and near the 800m had to be steadied off the heels of SINGLE ROSE (M. Rodd).
Near the 900m NOVA STAR (J. Byrne) had to be momentarily steadied off the heels of SEQUESTRATE which shifted in slightly.
Approaching the 800m HAIGHT ASHBURY (S. Galloway) improved to the inside of the heels of ANCA (D. Beadman) where there was insufficient room and as a result had to be checked. MY SON DAY (S. Seamer), which was following, had to be steadied.
Passing the 800m DISINTEGRATE (A. Erhart) ran up on to the heels of RED HOT PISTOL (K. Forrester) and had to be steadied.
Near the 700m RED HOT PISTOL made the turn awkwardly, forcing DISINTEGRATE wider on the track.
SEQUESTRATE, RED HOT PISTOL and DISINTEGRATE were forced to race wide for the majority of the event.
Approaching the 400m SEQUESTRATE shifted in and bumped HAIGHT ASHBURY.
MY SON DAY (S. Seamer) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.
Passing the 200m VOCALIC (G. Lynch) shifted out and bumped SIR MONASHEE (J. Holder), which in turn brushed ANCA (D. Beadman).
Near the 150m SINGLE ROSE was inconvenienced by MOSSO which shifted out slightly.
A post-race veterinary examination of MY SON DAY failed to reveal any abnormalities.
