SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
Jockey P. Wolfgram was questioned as to his failure to fulfil his engagements at Ipswich on Friday, 16 May, in Race 3 on KID KAPLAN and in Race 5 on MEMSAHIB VERONICA. After hearing evidence, P. Wolfgram was fined the sum of $500 under AR. 85B.
Race 1: FLIGHT CENTRE 2MW LY H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Forestreno 2nd – Xaardante 3rd – Stylish Qualo 4th – Tellasecret
LINE BY LINE (D. Evans) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
Near the 1000m GO SEQUALO (C. Spry) had to be steadied to avoid COCKTAIL SUPREME (D. Griffin) which shifted in. D. Griffin was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
DAMIGOS (J. Holder) raced wide throughout.
Near the 500m ROCK ON BYE (S. Galloway) shifted out to improve and in doing so made contact with COCKTAIL SUPREME.
Shortly after entering the straight STYLISH QUALO (J. Taylor) and GO SEQUALO brushed. GO SEQUALO had difficulty obtaining clear running for the remainder of the event.
Passing the 200m BEARCOUNTRY (J. Byrne) was unable to obtain clear running.
A post-race veterinary examination revealed that TROPIQUALO had bled from its nearside nostril. Trainer T. Gollan was advised that TROPIQUALO must gallop 1000m before stewards prior to the horse racing again.
Race 2: XXXX GOLD CHAMPAGNE CLASSIC - 1200m
1st – Court 2nd – Captain Fantastic 3rd – Cat D’Antibes 4th – Power Of George
DADDY’S LITTLE GIRL (D. Griffin) and MR ARMSTRONG (M. Paget) came together on jumping away.
COURT (J. Byrne) was a little slow to begin.
ROCKDALE (C. Newitt) overraced in the early stages and near the 800m had to be steadied off the heels of PHEBETAY (R. Thompson). ROCKDALE continued to overrace for a short distance.
When the pace eased approaching the first turn PRIVILEGED CLASS (G. Palmer), DUSTY MOON (A. Pattillo), COURT, CAPTAIN FANTASTIC (D. Oliver) and ARJUNA (S. Arnold) all had to be steadied to varying degrees.
MR ARMSTRONG and DADDY’S LITTLE GIRL raced wide throughout.
ROCKDALE was unable to obtain clear running for the majority of the straight.
Close to the finishing line SARATOGA (P. Wolfgram) attempted a run between POWER OF GEORGE (J. Taylor) and PHEBETAY where there was doubtful room and in doing so tightened the running of PHEBETAY.
A post-race veterinary examination of MR ARMSTRONG revealed the horse to be shin sore in both forelegs. Trainer J. Nielsen was advised that he must obtain a veterinary clearance for MR ARMSTRONG before its next race start.
Race 3: PATINACK FARM LORD MAYOR’S CUP – 1615m
1st – Rum Dum 2nd – Majorca 3rd – Mitanni 4th – Thin And Crispy
Near the 1200m MAJORCA (S. King) and EVILWEB (C. Newitt) brushed.
MONTOUX (J. Holder) was forced to race three wide throughout.
Passing the 600m COLONIAL LASS (R. Wiggins), which was endeavouring to shift out to improve, shifted out and made contact with BELLES OPINION (T. Pannell) on a number of occasions.
PRIMA NOVA (C. Brown) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
PRIMA NOVA was inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.
R. McMahon, the rider of THIN AND CRISPY, accidentally dropped his whip near the 50m.
A post-race veterinary examination of EVILWEB failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 4: HIDDEN DRAGON DOOMBEN ROSES - 2020m
1st – Heavenly Glow 2nd – Pentacity 3rd – Miss Maren 4th – Galileo’s Daughter
MISS MAREN (C. Newitt) was slow to begin.
RATHSALLAGH (M. Zahra) jumped out at the start and made contact with MY JOLIENE (B. Stewart).
LALETTA (A. Pattillo) raced wide in the early stages.
SONG OF HOPE (S. Seamer) overraced in the early stages when forced to race wide.
MY JOLIENE raced wide throughout.
ROYALE HARMONY (S. Baster) was inclined to overrace in the early stages.
Passing the 900m DANDEE TOPWIN (G. Schofield) had to be steadied off the heels of GALILEO’S DAUGHTER (D. Oliver). HEAVENLY GLOW (R. Thompson), which was following, was obliged to shift wider on the track. HEAVENLY GLOW was obliged to race wide for the remainder of the event.
Near the 700m ROYALE HARMONY shifted out around the heels of LALETTA and in doing so forced PENTURA (L. Innes) and MY JOLIENE wider on the track.
MISS MAREN was held up for clear running from shortly after entering the straight until after passing the 200m.
Shortly after straightening OUR VALPOLICELLA (S. Arnold) shifted out and made contact with DANDEE TOPWIN. S. Arnold was reprimanded under AR. 137(a).
Near the 200m PENTACITY (G. Colless) shifted out to improve around the heels of TIPSY PIGGY (J. Holder) and in doing so MAGNIFIQUE LASS (C. Brown) shifted out hampering the tiring LALATTA.
Near the 100m ROYAL HARMONY had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room between OUR VALPOLICELLA and MISS MAREN which was shifting out to improve. C. Newitt, the rider of MISS MAREN, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Race 5: GLENLOGAN PARK STAKES - 1350m
1st – Quizzical Lady 2nd – Chinchilla Rose 3rd – Seconde 4th – Zipanese
SECONDE (A. Pattillo) jumped out at the start and made contact with CALCHRIS (P. Hammersley).
COUPOLETTE (M. Paget) was tightened on jumping away between JUMAANA (S. Seamer) and STRANGE LADY (J. Benbow) which shifted in.
STREET SMART (P. Wolfgram) and DANCE WARS (A. Spinks) were tightened on jumping away between CHINCHILLA ROSE (S. Baster), which shifted out slightly, and SINGLE ROSE (J. Byrne) which, after jumping away awkwardly, shifted in. In this incident DANCE WARS lost its position.
STRANGE LADY raced wide throughout.
Near the 300m QUIZZICAL LADY (B. Pengelly) was momentarily held up for clear running behind SINGLE ROSE.
A post-race veterinary examination of MISS PAGEANTRY (C. Brown) revealed that the horse had a respiratory infection. Trainer G. Markewll was advised that she must provide a veterinary clearance prior to the horse’s next start.
A post-race veterinary examination of SEQUENTIAL CHARM (G. Colless) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 6: DARLEY BTC SPRINT - 1350m
1st – Helideck 2nd – Absolut Glam 3rd – Mr Hornblower 4th – Mr Baritone
MR BARITONE (S. Arnold) and DAUNTING LAD (S. Seamer) raced wide throughout.
ABSOLUT GLAM (S. King) was held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.
Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reasons for L. Nolen being dislodged from ANTIDOTES passing the 200m. As a result of the fall, LAURA’S CHARM (M. Paget), HARD TO CATCH (B. Stewart) and ATAPI (J. Byrne) were all hampered.
A post-race veterinary examination of ATAPI failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 7: XXXX GOLD DOOMBEN CUP - 2020m
1st – Sarrera 2nd – Rampant Lion 3rd – Like It Is 4th – Scenic Shot
As L. Nolen had been transported to hospital following his fall in Race 6, S. Baster was substituted as the rider of EMERALD JACK.
Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reasons for VIEWED being presented to race without the lead bag. Stewards obtained the lead bag from the tie-up stalls and the horse was re-saddled appropriately.
EMERALD JACK (S. Baster) and LUVULEO (R. Thompson) were slow to begin.
ESKIMO QUEEN (M. Zahra) and LECTRICE (C. Newitt) brushed on jumping away.
Approaching the winning post on the first occasion VIEWED (S. Arnold) and LECTRICE (C. Newitt) were placed in restricted room to the inside of LEGENDARY MAN (S. Treweek) which shifted in after having to be steadied to avoid the heels of SPINNEY (C. Brown) which shifted in. C. Brown was reprimanded under AR. 137(a).
SPINNEY (C. Brown) was held up for clear running from shortly after entering the straight until passing the 200m.
LEGENDARY MAN lost its off hind plate in running.
A post-race veterinary examination revealed that ESKIMO QUEEN sustained a small laceration to the outside of the off hind cannon and a small laceration on the near hock.
A post-race veterinary examination of LECTRICE failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 8: LYNDHURST STUD BTC CLASSIC - 1350m
1st – El Cambio 2nd – Mr Unforgettable 3rd – Diplomatic Force 4th –Bella Valentina
On returning to scale G. Colless, the rider of the 2nd placegetter MR UNFORGETTABLE, lodged an objection against EL CAMBIO (C. Brown) being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final 100m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the official film, stewards found that although EL CAMBIO, which was inclined to lay in, did shift in and make contact with MR UNFORGETTABLE, the interference suffered by MR UNFORGETTABLE was not in excess of the margin separating both horses at the finish and therefore dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.
BARCLAYS (J. Holder) was slow to begin.
Passing the 1300m MISS WATAGAN (J. Taylor) was momentarily tightened for room between BELLA VALENTINA (D. Oliver) and BELLEGAL (P. Wolfgram) which shifted in slightly. A short distance later MISS WATAGAN shifted in and had to be steadied off the heels of BELLA VALENTINA.
Near the 1000m HEART OF THE CITI (B. Pengelly) had to be steadied off the heels of BELLEGAL. EL CAMBIO (C. Brown), which was following, improved quickly to the inside of that horse, momentarily tightening CROSSTHESTART (C. Newitt).
MISS WATAGAN and ACELAND STREET (S. Seamer) raced wide throughout.
Near the 200m CROSSTHESTART had to be steadied to avoid the heels of FROSTY (R. McMahon) which shifted in . As R. McMahon hd left the course, stewards intend to interview him at a later date and R. McMahon will be reprimanded under the provisions of AR. 137(a) for shifting in when not fully clear.
Approaching the 200m MISS WATAGAN had to be steadied when tightened for room between EL CAMBIO, which shifted in, and MR UNFORGETTABLE (G. Colless), which shifted out to obtain clear running.
APERCU (J. Byrne) had difficulty obtaining clear running inside the final 200m.
