SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

Race 1: Lot 646 @ MM Class 6 H'cap - 2120m
1st – Forbes 2nd – Under The Counter 3rd – Emerald Hill 4th – Moon Chaser
When the pace slowed near the 1500m, COMMANCHE WARRIOR (M. Speers) commenced to overrace and improved up on to the heels of THE SNICSTER (J. Taylor) and shifted out. COMMANCHE WARRIOR then progressed forward to take up a position outside the leader approaching the 800m.
THE SNICSTER hung in rounding the 800m turn and did so until passing the 600m.
Near the 50m, HOPESON (D. Nikolic) improved up on to the heels of the tiring BRADFIELD and D. Nikolic, rider of HOPESON, was obliged to shift out to improve that horse’s position.
A post-race veterinary examination of NEVER YOU MIND, which was eased down by its rider in the home straight, revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer C. Martin was obliged that he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for the gelding prior to its next race start.
COMMANCHE WARRIOR lost its off fore plate in running.
Race 2: Lot 573 @ MM F&M NMW 1350m
1st –Alberton Park 2nd – Fly To Win 3rd – Monsheree 4th – Go Johemma
TIKIT TO GLORY (A. Pattillo) jumped outwards at the start, making contact with TELESTAH LA VISTAH (Michael Palmer).
Approaching the 1200m, ZENACITY (J. Holder) had to be steadied away from the heels of ALBERTON PARK (J. Byrne), which shied away from MONSHEREE (R. Wiggins).
For a short distance leaving the 800m, ZENACITY overraced at the heels of FLY TO WIN (M. Speers).
Near the 500m, ALBERTON PARK (J. Byrne) was unable to improve when held up behind the heels of the tiring HONOURABLE DANCER (D. Craven). OUR MOSCATO (D. Nikolic) and GO JOHEMMA (S. Katsidis), which were trailing ALBERTON PARK, were also unable to improve until passing the 400m.
Passing the 200m, FLY TO WIN was obliged to alter course to the inside of MONSHEREE (R. Wiggins), which shiftedout forward of that mare.
A post race veterinary examination of HONOURABLE DANCER, which compounded to finish a distant last, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Following this event the track rating was downgraded to Slow 6.
Race 3: Lot 176 @ MM 2MW Last Year H'cap - 1350m
1st – Let Me Adam 2nd – Woorim 3rd – Dalzar 4th - Fuhrnatic
LET ME ADAM (C. McIver) raced 3 wide throughout.
J. Bowditch reported that, in his opinion, FUHRNATIC failed to stretch out on the rain affected surface.
Stewards sought an explanation from K. Banks in respect of the seemingly disappointing performance of BOLD GLANCE. K. Banks stated that the horse travelled well through the race until such time as she placed BOLD GLANCE under pressure at which stage, in her opinion, it failed to stretch out on the rain affected surface. K. Banks further added that, in her opinion, BOLD GLANCE may not have appreciated the 7-day backup and may be a better horse when its runs are spaced. Trainer N. Hilton reported to stewards he was also of the opinion that BOLD GLANCE did not handle the rain-affected surface today. A post-race veterinary examination of BOLD GLANCE revealed it to be making an abnormal respiratory noise. N. Hilton was advised that BOLD GLANCE must undergo an endoscopic examination, the results of which to be forwarded to stewards.
D. Nikolic reported to stewards that, in his opinion, CROSSWISE did not handle the prevailing track conditions today.
BOLD GLANCE lost its near fore plate in running.
Race 4: Lot 571 @ MM CG&E H'cap - 1350m
1st – Gundy Son 2nd – Black Dakota 3rd - Lucky Omen 4th - Stature
Trainer R. Heathcote was fined $300 for failing to declare riders for GUNDY SON and OUR LUKAS (Race 7) by the prescribed time.
MONASHEE WARRIOR (R. Wiggins) was slow to begin.
LUCKY OMENS (S. Katsidis) and KING OF SPIRIT (Matthew Palmer) and MONASHEE WARRIOR were tightened for room shortly after the start between ROLLER DRUM (C. McIver) and STATURE (J. Holder), which shifted in.
Near the 350m, BLACK DAKOTA (C. Reith) shifted out to obtain clear running, resulting in ELEVENTH COMMAND (C. Gilby) having to be steadied to avoid that horse’s heels.
Leaving the 300m, BRETONNEUX (J. Taylor) and BLACK DAKOTA (C. Reith) made contact on several occasions.
LUCKY OMENS was held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn.
TELFIRE (A. Pattillo) was unable to secure clear running over the concluding stages.
C. Reith, rider of BLACK DAKOTA, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that approaching the winning post he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of BRETONNEUX, resulting in BRETONNEUX being taken in on to MONASHEE WARRIOR, resulting in that horse having to be checked when tightened for room between BRETONNEUX and RED STORY. C. Reith was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence midnight, 28 December and to expire at midnight, 6 January 2009.
BRETONNEUX (J. Taylor) and HEARTSUN (M. Cahill) raced wide for the majority of the event.
J. Byrne reported that I’M RUTHLESS hung out throughout the event, and upon straightening when he was attempting to obtain a run to the inside of THUNDERSHOT (M. Speers), the horse continued to hang out across the heels of THUNDERSHOT, resulting in him having to take hold of I’M RUTHLESS. J. Byrne further added that once he was able to straighten and balance the horse in the straight it finished the race off well although he had to momentarily take hold of the horse near the finish line when runners forward were racing tight. A post-race veterinary examination of I’M RUTHLESS revealed the horse to be lame in both forelegs. Trainer T. Hall indicated that the horse would now be sent for a spell. T. Hall was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance for the horse prior to its next race start.
An initial veterinary examination of EQUATES, which lost ground quickly from the top of the straight and collapsed nearing the winning post, revealed the gelding had suffered heart failure.
Race 5: Hotel Grand Yearlings at MM Open H'cap - 1200m
1st –Charming Rogue 2nd – Pride Of Power 3rd – Rasmussen 4th – Light Red
When the pace slackened approaching the 800m, GALLUM (J. Taylor) commenced to overrace at the heels of YASS RIVER (R. Wiggins) and had to be steadied. LIGHT RED (M. Hellyer), which was following, also had to be steadied as a consequence.
ZAHAS PRIDE (L. Cassidy) raced wide throughout.
Race 6: Racetree BJ McLachlan Stakes 2yo Listed Plate – 1200m
1st – Military Rose 2nd – Marking Time 3rd – Startmeup 4th – Demanding Miss
BOUZY ROUGE (C. Reith) was tightened for room at the start between STARTMEUP (J. Byrne) and WHIPPY VAN (D. Nikolic), which shifted out.
GHOSTNTHEDARKNESS (L. Cassidy) shifted out at the start, taking DEMANDING MISS (J. Bowditch) out on to the hind quarters of RINGA RINGA ROSIE. GHOSTNTHEDARKNESS then shifted in, resulting in MILITARY ROSE (S. Katsidis) having to be steadied when tightened for room between that horse and MARKING TIME (S. Scriven). GHOSTNTHEDARKNESS shifted out again shortly after the start, resulting in DEMANDING MISS and RING RINGA ROSIE having to be steadied when forced across the heels of EXTREME MOVER.
Approaching the 800m, MUNDI GULLY (D. Whitmore) had to be eased to avoid the heels of WHIPPY VAN (D. Nikolic), which was taken in by MILITARY ROSE (S. Katsidis), which in turn was taken I by MARKING TIME, which shifted in and away from JANTZEN (J. Taylor), which shifted in slightly when being restrained.
After passing the 800m, both WHIPPY VAN (D. Nikolic) and MILITARY ROSE were severely hampered when racing tight to the inside of MARKING TIME, which was also tightened for room when taken in by JANTZEN, which was racing tight to the inside of GHOSTNTHEDARKNESS. MUNDI GULLY, which was traililng, was obliged to take evasive action outwards, forcing DEMANDING MISS and RINGA RINGA ROSIE (M. Cahill) wider on the track. Stewards, in consideration of the evidence before them, were not able to apportion blame to any one rider and therefore took no action.
Over the concluding stages, STARTSMEUP (J. Byrne) shifted in, taking DEMANDING MISS inwards, resulting in that horse having to be steadied near the finish line when tightened for room between that horse and PARIS BLU (A. Pattillo).
B. Shinn, rider of EXTREME MOVER, reported that, in his opinion, the gelding failed to handle today’s rain affected track. A post-race veterinary examination of EXREME MOVER revealed the horse to be exhibiting a slow than normal post race recovery rate.
Stewards sought an explanation from M. Cahill regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of RINGA RINGA ROSIE. M. Cahill stated that the filly did not feel comfortable in the early stages and he was forced to ride the horse aggressively in order to hold a position in the field. M. Cahill added that the horse was under pressure well before the home turn and failed to respond to his riding and could only attribute the horse’s performance to the wet track conditions. Trainer B. Laming concurred with M. Cahill’s assessment and advised stewards that he intended to continue on with the filly’s preparation towards the Magic Millions 2-Year-Old Classic. A post-race veterinary examination of RINGA RINGA ROSIE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 7:Monashee Mountain Bernborough H'cap - 1630m
1st – Joku 2nd – Alverta 3rd – Absent Friends 4th – Express Air
Passing the 1200m, BARLINNIE (J. Holder) became awkward on the heels of OUR LUKAS (L. Cassidy) and shifted in, taking MY LIMIT (S. Katsidis) in on to ABSENT FRIENDS (J. Taylor), which had to be steadied.
S. Katsidis, rider of MY LIMIT, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out near the 700m, making heavy contact with OUR LUKAS (L. Cassidy).
Near the 200m, the tiring BARLINNIE had to be steadied when tightened for room between REGAL CASTANEA (A. Pattillo) and CENTOVER (J. Bowditch), both of which shifted ground.
TAGUS (M. Palmer) and SECRETS UNTOLD (K. Yoshida) were forced to race in restricted room for a short distance nearing the 100m to the inside of RAGS TO RICHES (C. Reith), which shifted in when tiring.
S. Scriven, rider of ALVERTA, was reprimanded for raising his arm above shoulder height when using his whip over the concluding stages.
Stewards sought an explanation from M. Cahill in respect of the performance of PEPPERWOOD. M. Cahill indicated the performance, in his opinion, had merit in that he was placed behind the tiring BARLINNIE and OUR LUKAS when he was attempting to improve into the race and as a result he was forced to make a wide run. M. Cahill added that PEPPERWOOD made steady ground in the straight, and, in his opinion, was looking for further distance in its races at this stage of its preparation.
Stewards questioned S. Katsidis, rider of MY LIMIT, as to the reason he progressed wide on the track from approaching the 600m when there appeared to be an opportunity to trail ALVERTA. S. Katsidis stated that at the horse’s most recent start it had been held up in the straight and subsequently connections were of the opinion that the horse performs best when taken wide and given an umimpeded run to the finish. S. Katsidis added that the horse, in his opinion, raced dour and advised stewards that connections intended to spell the horse. The explanation was noted.
J. Holder, rider of BARLINNIE, reported that the gelding raced fiercely in the middle stages and, in his opinion, failed to handle today’s track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination of BARLINNIE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 8: Hotel Grand Vo Rogue 3yo Plate – 1350m
1st – Graceful Anna 2nd – Shoot Out 3rd – Choistar 4th – Just A Piccolo
FIFTEEN CARAT (J. Bowditch) and CHOISTAR (M. Cahill) were tightened for room at the start between SURF’S UP (C. Reith) and DUAL CHAMBER (D. Craven), which shifted in.
JUST A PICCOLO (J. Taylor) was slow to begin.
Near the 1100m, SHOOT OUT (S. Katsidis) raced fiercely for a short distance and got its head in the air.
Passing the 800m PRINCESS QUALO (L. Cassidy), after initially being tightened for room by CAPTAIN SONADOR (A. Pattillo), which was taken in by SPOT ON TARGET (D. Nikolic), struck the heels of FEMINA FASHION (J. Holder), which made the 800m turn awkwardly and shifted out. In the circumstances, stewards took no direct action.
Between the 600m and 400m, LUCY’S CASH, when attempting to shift out and improve made contact with SURF’S UP (C. Reith) on several occasions.
IRISH DREAM (J. Byrne) was held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.
CAPTAIN SONADOR (A. Pattillo) and DUAL CHAMBER (D. Craven) raced wide for the majority of the event.
S. Scriven reported that UMANUGGET performed disappointingly over the final 300m of the race after he obtained a clear run to the outside PRINCESS QUALO (L. Cassidy) near the 350m. A post-race veterinary examination of UMANUGGET failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Stewards sought an explanation as to the reason J. Bowditch, rider of FIFTEEN CARAT, failed to take a run that presented itself to the inside of CHOISTAR (M. Cahill) upon straightening. J. Bowditch explained that, in his opinion, the inside was the inferior part of the track and therefore he was committed to move his mount wider on the track to obtain a run that had presented itself between JUST A PICCOLO (J. Taylor) and REDIBIS (K. Banks). J. Bowditch further stated that when he was in a position to make use of that run, REDIBIS shifted out, resulting in him having to take hold and shift FIFTEEN CARAT to the inside of that runner in order to gain clear running. The explanation was noted.
A post-race veterinary examination of PRNCESS QUALO failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
A post-race veterinary examination of SPOT ON TARGET revealed the colt to be making an abnormal respiratory noise and was lame in the off foreleg. Trainer H. Wilson will be advised that he would be required to provide veterinary clearance, including the results of an endoscopic examination prior to its next race start.
