SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS: Nil

Race 1: Jye Cooper Group QTIS 2YO H'Cap - 1010m
1st – Octane Flyer 2nd – Vienna Queen 3rd – Greytfilly 4th - Architect

CRAIGLEA ZAMIA (J. Taylor) was slow to begin.

Leaving the 600m GREYTFILLY (P. Hammersley) improved up onto the heels of ARCHITECT (M. Hellyer) and had to be steadied when ARCHITECT lost ground as a result of racing greenly throughout the event.

Over the concluding stages CRAIGLEA KALBAR (K. Wharton) shifted out and away from ARCHITECT, which was shifting ground outwards.

PANDORA CHARM (App T. Harrison) raced wide for the majority of the event.

TRESSLES (M. Cahill) hung out when racing 3 wide during the event.

A post race veterinary examination of CRAIGLEA ZAMIA, which compounded to finish a distant last failed to reveal any abnormalities.

P. Hammersley reported at scale that GREYTFILLY stood awkwardly as the start was effected and as a result was slow to begin.

Race 2: Nairn Constructions QTIS 3YO H'Cap – 1200m
1st – Gibberer 2nd – Lady Colours 3rd – Joint Initiative 4th – Allknight Saint

Trainer T. Dougall was fined the sum of $100.00 for the late declaration of L. Cassidy as the rider of ROBERT”S COMMAND.

The start of this race was delayed when B. Stewart the rider of ALLKNIGHT SAINT identified a tear in one of his stirrup leathers. Subsequently the stirrup leather was replaced and ALLKNIGHT SAINT resaddled.

THE STOREMAN (D. Browne) and GIBBERER (M. Cahill) were both slow to begin.

Stewards sought an explanation from jockey D. Browne regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of THE STOREMAN. D. Browne stated that the horse was agitated whilst parading behind the barriers, was quite fractious after being loaded and was subsequently slow to begin. D. Browne stated that he was nevertheless able to establish a position one of the fence trailing ALLKNIGHT SAINT in the early stages however, when the pace slackened near the 900m THE STOREMAN overraced at the heels of that runner and refused to settle. D. Browne went on to explain that he felt the best option given the speed together with the racing manners of THE STOREMAN was to move out 3 wide and improve his position closer to the lead. D. Browne said THE STOREMAN travelled quite well through the middle section of the race but when asked for an effort did not respond as expected and was disappointing. Stable representative Mr J. Flemming stated that THE FOREMAN by virtue of being slow to begin was not able to race in its customary forward position and having to race 3 wide from the 700m in his view resulted in the horse peaking in its run approaching the 100m. He further stated that in the circumstances he was not entirely disappointed in today’s performance. A post race veterinary examination of THE STOREMAN revealed no abnormalities and the gelding was sent to be swabbed.

Race 3: Rick’s Doors One Metro Win H’Cap - 1350m
1st – Sea Marvista 2nd – Caellum 3rd – Marculoo 4th – Crazy Mamma

The start of this race was delayed when RELEASED (J. Lloyd) became fractious in the barriers and kicked the back gate and as a result was removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race.

CRAZY MAMMA (App T. Harrison) faltered as the start was effected.

DREAM WITH ME (L. Cassidy) raced wide throughout the event.

Stewards inquired into the circumstances for R. McMahon being dislodged from ENDLESS SHADOW after passing the 1100m. After taking evidence from R. McMahon, G. Colless (PRODUCT) and L. Cassidy (DREAM WITH ME) it was established that approaching the 1100m PRODUCT when racing keenly became awkward at the heels of CAELLUM (S. Galloway), which was also being restrained by its rider. At the same stage DREAM WITH ME shifted in and raced tight to the outside of PRODUCT. As a consequence of these factors PRODUCT shifted in slightly resulting in ENDLESS SHADOW clipping the heels of PRODUCT and blundered dislodging its rider R. McMahon. Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that this incident occurred due to the carelessness of either G. Colless or L. Cassidy and subsequently took no direct action. R. McMahon was subsequently examined by the Club’s doctor and passed fit to fulfil his remaining engagements.

Trainer G. Duncan was asked to explain the improved performance of SEA MARVISTA today. Mr Duncan stated that at its most previous start the mare was slow to begin and then after being ridden with vigour in the early stages commenced to overrace which had an effect on the mare’s capacity to finish the race off. Mr Duncan added that SEA MARVISTA was dropping in class today and he expected the mare to race well.

A post race veterinary examination of ENDLESS SHADOW revealed a laceration to its off side cheek and also a minor laceration to its near hind leg.

Race 4: Iona College Old Boys Open H’Cap - 1200m
1st – Funtantes 2nd – Morning Captain 3rd – Theft 4th – Ollie Vollie

WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY (L. Cassidy) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

Near the 900m THEFT shifted out around the heels of FUNTANTES (App T. Harrison), which resulted in MORNING CAPTAIN (M. Cahill) being taken wider. MORNING CAPTAIN then shifted back into a position one off the fence near the 800m which resulted in OLLIE VOLLIE (App B. Richardson) being taken in onto ST GERMAINE (D. Browne), which had to be steadied. M. Cahill the rider of MORNING CAPTAIN was severely reprimanded.

Following the running of this event R. McMahon was again examined by the Club’s doctor and stood down for the remainder of the event. R. McMahon was subsequently replaced as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 5: 3S Lighting Class 6 H'Cap - 2000m
1st – Run Royal Run 2nd – Eureka Jack 3rd – Rare Subject 4th – Missing In Action

BUFFETT (P. Hammersley) began awkwardly.

ENCOSTAS GIFT (J.P. Stanley) was slow to begin.

BILLY AUCASH (E. Wilkinson) overraced in the early and middle stages of the event.

RARE SUBJECT (J. Lloyd) raced 3 wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to the position outside of the leader after passing the 1200m.

Near the 450m BREAK THE ICE (L. Rolls) improved onto the heels of ENCOSTAS GIFT and shifted out making contact with SATCH (App T. Harrison).

RUN ROYAL RUN (M. Cahill) was inclined to lay in under pressure over the final 300m.

When asked to explain the disappointing performance of PRIMARY COLOUR stable representative Scott Morrisey stated that the gelding may have not backed up from its recent win where it had to work hard. He indicated that PRIMARY COLOUR will take its runs spaced further in the future. A post race veterinary examination of PRIMARY COLOUR failed to reveal any abnormalities.

E. Wilkinson the rider of BILLY AUCASH was asked to explain the horse’s seemingly disappointing performance. E. Wilkinson stated that whilst the horse overraced for a short distance in the early stages it travelled well through the middle section of the race however, when asked for an effort did not respond to his riding and he formed the view that the horse did not run out the 2000m.

Race 6: Kanga Couriers Mares Class 6 H’Cap - 1200m
1st – Poste Restante 2nd – Rhapsodic 3rd – Our Hussey 4th - Purfectress

The start of this race was delayed when PRETTY COMPOSED (M. Hellyer) came into contact with the running rail when parading behind the barrier stalls. Subsequently PRETTY COMPOSED was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed suitable to race.

Correct weight was delayed to enable stewards to view the video footage of the start to determine if PRETTY COMPOSED, which lost considerable ground at the start, had been denied a fair start. After viewing the footage it was established that PRETTY COMPOSED jumped very awkwardly and threw its head back making contact with rider M. Hellyer and as a result lost considerable ground. On this basis stewards declared it a runner and correct weight was declared as semaphored. Trainer B. Wakefield was advised that he must obtain a further barrier certificate for PRETTY COMPOSED before it races again.

AROUND THE WORLD (J. Taylor), CLAM CHOWDER (App T. Harrison) and FOUND THE ONE (M. Cahill) were all tightened for room at the start between RAISE UP (D. Browne) and FUNNY FALVE (L. Cassidy), both of which shifted ground.

CLAM CHOWDER laid in in the middle stages and near the 500m had to be steadied from the heels of FOUND THE ONE when FOUND THE ONE lost ground.

Approaching the 600m POSTE RESTANTE (B. Stewart) shifted out and bumped PURFECTRESS (G. Colless) resulting in PURFECTRESS becoming unbalanced.

Passing the 600m CLAM CHOWDER improved onto the heels of FOUND THE ONE and had to be restrained.

OUR HUSSEY (P. Hammersley), MAROON BELLS (J.P. Stanley), SKY EFFORT (J. Lloyd) and PURFECTRESS (G. Colless) all raced wide throughout the event.

B. Stewart the rider of POSTE RESTANTE was fined the sum of $100.00 for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.

When asked to explain the performance of FOUND THE ONE rider M. Cahill stated that the mare was held up in the early part of the straight but once able to secure clear running near the 200m did not finish the race off as expected and its action did not feel comfortable over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination of FOUND THE ONE revealed the mare sore in both knees. A veterinary certificate of fitness will be required prior to the mare again racing.

G. Colless reported that PURFECTRESS did not appreciate the firmer surface today.

Following the running of this event M. Hellyer was examined by the Club’s doctor and stood down for the remainder of the event. M. Hellyer was subsequently replaced as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 7: Entire Recruitment No Metro Wins H'Cap - 1600m
1st – Vantabulous 2nd – Side To Side 3rd – Preacher Boy 4th – Cap Vilano

Stewards considered an objection lodged by M. Cahill the rider of 2nd placegetter SIDE TO SIDE against B. Stewart (VANTABULOUS) being declared the winner alleging interference near the 300m. After taking evidence from all relevant parties stewards were of the view that VANTABULOUS had shifted out to improve passing the 300m but any inconvenience to SIDE TO SIDE was very minor and did not have a material effect on the placings and therefore dismissed the protest and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s placings.

HOME TO THE BRIDE (L. Rolls) race 3 wide in the early and middle stages of the event.

Near the 800m VANTABULOUS shifted in resulting in RUN JAKE RUN (App T. Harrison) having to be steadied. B. Stewart the rider of VANTABULOUS immediately corrected his mount and bearing this in mind stewards took no further action.

Near the 700m HOME TO THE BRIDE shifted in resulting in BRANTZ (J. Lloyd) having to be steadied. L. Rolls the rider of HOME TO THE BRIDE was reprimanded.

L. Cassidy reported that CAP VILANO was awkward in its stride in the straight and proved difficult to ride.

Race 8: Harcourts Green Living Entires & Geldings Class 6 H'Cap - 1200m
1st – Beseech 2nd – Balkuin 3rd – Merconman 4th – Mr Orient

BALKUIN (App T. Harrison) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out hampering MR ORIENT (J. Lloyd) and SILVER COMMAND (M. Cahill).

Passing the 900m MERCONMAN (L. Cassidy) commenced to overrace and shifted out from the heels of BALKUIN and made contact with the hind quarters of D’JET (D. Browne). MERCONMAN continued to overrace in the middle stages.

App T. Harrison the rider of BALKUIN was fined the sum of $500.00 for failing to ride her mount out to the finish of the event. In assessing penalty stewards were satisfied that her actions did not affect the outcome of the race.

D’JET and SILVER COMMAND both raced 3 wide throughout.

When asked to explain the poor performance of SILVER COMMAND rider M. Cahill stated that he was given specific instructions to lead which he was unable to do after being slow to begin. M. Cahill added that SILVER COMMAND failed to respond to his riding from the 500m and weakened in the home straight. Stable representative Mr J. Fleming explained that SILVER COMMAND has shown throughout its racing career that if it is not able to lead it has performed disappointingly. A post race veterinary examination of SILVER COMMAND revealed no significant abnormalities. Stewards advised Mr Fleming that SILVER COMMAND will be required to compete satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to being permitted to race again.
