1st – Greytfilly 2nd – Octane Flyer 3rd – Architect 4th - Tressles
Assistant Starter M. Henderson reported to stewards that GREYTFILLY was fractious behind the barriers and exhibiting signs that it was in season. As a result, GREYTFILLY was loaded out of sequence. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on GREYTFILLY regarding its pre-race behaviour.
KAYNO (G. Cooksley), VO HEART (E. Wilkinson) and CHOOSE A SAGA (D. Browne) were all hampered soon after the start when tightened for room between CRAIGLEA KALBAR (K. Wharton) and TRESSLES (M. Cahill), which shifted out abruptly.
A short distance after the start, GRANDKIDS ROCK (L. Cassidy) attempted to buck and on the first turn when being restrained shifted out, taking VO HEART wider on the track. Following an inquiry, stewards ordered that GRANDKIDS ROCK must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards before being permitted to race again.
CRAIGLEA KALBAR had a tendency to hang out when racing wide through the middle stages of the race.
On several occasions passing the 800m, CHEEKYBOI (T. Harrison) had to be steadied when overracing at the heels of GREYTFILLY (R. Wiggins).
Approaching the 600m, OCTANE FLYER (R. McMahon) shifted out and made contact with the hind quarters of ARCHITECT (M. Hellyer).
Rounding the home turn, MIDWAY (S. Galloway) was momentarily impeded for clear running at the heels of GRANDKIDS ROCK (L. Cassidy).
G. Cooksley, rider of KAYNO, dropped his whip near the 200m.
M. Cahill, rider of TRESSLES, reported that the horse raced greenly during the race.
VO HEART raced wide throughout.
Race 2: Nugrow Class 6 H'cap – 1110m
1st – Dee Bee Nine 2nd – Spot The Rock 3rd – Tahitian Black 4th - Starstreamed
The start of the race was delayed when LOCHIEL kicked out at the back gate, and after being examined by the veterinary surgeon was withdrawn at 1.01 pm. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on LOCHIEL were ordered to be refunded, with the following deductions applicable.
0 cent in the dollar for the Win of Dee Bee Nine
3 cents in the dollar for place of winner Dee Bee Nine
3 cents in the dollar for 2nd place Spot The Rock
1 cent in the dollar for 3rd place Tahitian Black
Trainer M. Nolan was fined $100 for failing to present the Document of Description for FAST LOVER.
STARSTREAMED (D. Browne) was inclined to lay in under pressure over the final 300m.
Race 3: Iveco Trucks Australia Class 6 Plate - 2140 m
1st – Run Royal Run 2nd – Break The Ice 3rd – Buffett 4th -
Connections advised that THEY WON’T LAST would be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.
THEY WON’T LAST began awkwardly and had to be steadied from the heels of COLLECTOR (L. Cassidy) a short distance after the start when COLLECTOR shifted out.
M. Cahill reported that RUN ROYAL RUN hung in under pressure from the 500m, placing him at a disadvantage in fully testing his mount.
Leaving the 250m, RARE SUBJECT (J. Lloyd) and DOLLY DOLLY (R. Myers) came together and made heavy contact when both horses shifted their ground under pressure. In this incident, RARE SUBJECT shifted out and brushed the hind quarters of RUN ROYAL RUN before again making contact with DOLLY DOLLY.
Over the concluding stages, DOLLY DOLLY shifted out, resulting in rider J. Lloyd being unable to make use of his whip.
Race 4: DPMA Open H'cap - 1200m
1st – Morning Captain 2nd – Funtantes 3rd – Theft 4th – Boys On Tour
No racing incidents.
Race 5: Superior Pak QTIS 3yo H'cap - 1200m
1st – General Exhibition 2nd – Qfighter 3rd – Substation 4th – The Storeman
The start of this race was delayed to enable the veterinary surgeon to inspect THE STOREMAN, which dislodged its rider during the preliminary. THE STOREMAN was subsequently passed suitable to race. THE STOREMAN also had to be resaddled.
On jumping away, the nearside stirrup leather on DANSAL became detached from the buckle, resulting in jockey G. Cooksley losing the use of that stirrup iron, causing DANSAL to be subsequently eased out of the race. Following the race, stewards examined the relevant gear and found it to be in a satisfactory condition.
GWENNIE (R. Wiggins) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, bumping GENERAL EXHIBIT (T. Harrison).
Near the 600m, FINNIGAN’S FOLLY (L. Cassidy) became awkwardly placed at the heels of ALLKNIGHT SAINT (B. Stewart), which shifted out, making contact with CHARGE A FORTUNE (E. Wilkinson). GIBBERER (M. Cahill), which was following, was steadied as a consequence.
Rounding the home turn, GIBBERER was held up at the heels of FINNIGAN’S FOLLY for a short distance.
T. Harrision reported that GENERAL EXHIBIT laid in under pressure in the straight, placing her at a disadvantage in fully testing her mount.
A post race veterinary examination of CHARGE A FORTUNE, which compounded to finish a distant last, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Connections advised that they would consider gelding the horse.
Race 6: Driver Recruitment Benchmark 80 H'cap – 1650m
1st – Preacher Boy 2nd – Jack’s Back 3rd – Santo de Lago 4th – Cap Vilano
Connections advised that SEA MARVISTA would be ridden further back in the field given the step up in distance. The horse was ridden accordingly.
At the start, SANTO DE LAGO (J. Lloyd) shifted out and bumped SIDE TO SIDE (M. Cahill).
Leaving the 500m, STRUMMING (E. Wilkinson) shifted out, taking BANG ON (R. Myers) wider on the track.
CAP VILANO (L. Cassidy) faltered and changed stride inside the final 100m.
Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice R. Myers regarding the seemingly poor performance of BANG ON. R. Myers stated that the mare travelled well at the rear of the field and made ground strongly coming to the home turn, but did not respond to her riding over the concluding stages and she believed it did not appreciate today’s firm track conditions. A post race veterinary examination of BANG ON revealed the horse to be lame in the off fore fetlock. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided for BANG ON prior to its next race start.
Race 7: Sita Australia Pty Ltd Class 6 Plate – 1350m
1st – Beseech 2nd – D’jet 3rd – Jersey Shore 4th – Poste Restante
ENDLESS SHADOW was tightened for room on jumping away between BESEECH (M. Vance) and PEPPERED BLACK (B. Stewart), both of which shifted ground. In this incident, THEY WON’T LAST lost its position.
POSTE RESENTE (R. Myers) jumped away awkwardly.
M. Vance, rider of BESEECH, was severely reprimanded for permitting her mount to shift in near the 1000m, resulting in JERSEY SHORE (R. Wiggins) having to be steadied.
Near the 1200m, ENDLESS SHADOW (T. Harrison) raced ungenerously at the heels of PEPPERED BLACK (B. Stewart) and had to be steadied.
MR ORIENT (J. Lloyd) had difficulty securing clear running over the concluding stages.
Race 8: Genuine Recycling NMW H'cap – 1200m
1st – Rapid Leica Dane 2nd – Requested 3rd – By Choice 4th - Comahni
COMAHNI, which kicked the enclosure fence whilst proceeding on to the track, was examined by the veterinary surgeon at the barriers and cleared to start.
At the start, WESTERN SHADOW (T. Harrison) and RAPID LEICA DANE (G. Colless) made heavy contact, and a short distance later, both WESTERN SHADOW and RAPID LEICA DANE had to be steadied when tightened for room between RHAPSODIC (E. Wilkinson) and FRACTIONS (B. Stewart), which shifted in.
R. Myers reported that BY CHOICE raced fiercely and refused to settle, which resulted in her having to race wide throughout the race.
T. Harrison reported that it was her intention to ride WESTERN SHADOW in a forward position, however after receiving tightening at the start, the horse settled further back than anticipated and raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages.
COMAHNI (G. Cooksley) was tightened for room at the start between GHOSTNTHEDARKNESS (M. Speers) and RUAPEHU BOY (L. Cassidy), both of which shifted ground.
Near the 800m, MASTER FIBBA (B. Richardson) had to be steadied from the heels of CATCH THE LIGHT (M. Cahill), and then shifted in, making contact with RUAPEHU BOY.
Rounding the home turn, MASTER FIBBA shifted out, taking GHOSTINTHEDARKNESS on to the hind quarters of FRACTIONS (B. Stewart), resulting in FRACTIONS becoming unbalanced.
RHAPSODIC (E. Wilkinson) and FRACTIONS (B. Stewart) raced wide throughout.
G. Cooksley, rider of the 4th placegetter, COMAHNI, was fined the sum of $200 for failing to ride his mount right out to the finish of the race.
B. Stewart was questioned regarding his failure to ride FRACTIONS out over the final 200m. Jockey Stewart explained that FRACTIONS raced fiercely in the early and middle stages and was caught wide on the track, and after being brushed on the hind quarters and becoming unbalanced on the point on the home turn, he tested the horse in the early part of the straight, however it did not respond to his riding and for this reason he relaxed on the horse over the final 200m. In all the circumstances, stewards issued B. Stewart with a reprimand, and advised him he must ride his mounts right out the finish of the race in future.
A post race veterinary examination of WESTERN SHADOW revealed the horse to be lame in the near fore fetlock. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance will be required for the horse prior to its next race start.
A post race veterinary examination of FRACTIONS failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
