Race 1: COCA-COLA AMATIL QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1020m
1st – Exotic Sequel 2nd – Tiger Jet 3rd – Turvanna 4th – Rare Ruby

The start of this race was delayed when TIGER JET (R. Wiggins) had to be resaddled behind the barriers.

After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage, M. Palmer, the rider of TURVANNA, placed 3rd by the Judge, lodged an objection against EXOTIC SEQUEL (R. Goltz) being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 800m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the film, stewards found that although TURVANNA did receive interference from EXOTIC SEQUEL and lost ground near the 800m, bearing in mind where the incident took place and the official margin separating both runners at the finish, they could not be comfortably satisfied that had the interference not occurred TURVANNA would have beaten EXOTIC SEQUEL to the finish line and therefore dismissed the objection and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s numbers. At a subsequent inquiry R. Goltz pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of TURVANNA, resulting in TURVANNA having to be checked and losing ground. In this incident HAVEN QUEEN (A. Spinks) and INDESTRUCTIBLE, which were both following, were checked as a consequence. R. Goltz’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, with the term to commence at midnight on Saturday, 15 December, and expire at midnight on Friday, 28 December 2012. In determining penalty, stewards were concerned with the degree of carelessness shown by jockey Goltz and the interference suffered by TURVANNA, as well as the subsequent interference caused to runners which were following, however, believed the appropriate penalty to be a period of 7 meetings, bearing in mind jockey Goltz’s exemplary record in relation to careless riding infringements over an extended period.

INDESTRUCTIBLE (T. Bell) and TIGER JET were slow to begin.

FIRST TO GO (T. Harrison) jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with SHE’S DAZZLER (M. Cahill), which was taken out on to SPENT (R. Myers).

SHE’S A DAZZLER and FIRST TO GO raced wide throughout.

INDESTRUCTIBLE raced greenly during the middle stages.

Race 2: CARLTON DRAUGHT QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1020m

The start of this race was delayed when QUANTUM SHADOW (R. Wiggins) had to be resaddled behind the barriers.

COOLOOLA (C. Munce) jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and tightened DEMIVAL (T. Bell). A short distance later GIANT CRUSHER (A. Pattillo) shifted in bumping the hind quarters of COOLOOLA.

QUANTUM SHADOW and GALLINARI (J. Lloyd) were both slow to begin.

GIANT CRUSHER raced up on to the heels of DEMIVAL near the 700m and was steadied.

ROSE OF CLARE (G. Killen), PUPPY TORQUE (J. Byrne) and QUANTUM SHADOW raced wide throughout.

GIANT CRUSHER and QUANTUM SHADOW bumped on several occasions rounding the home turn, resulting in QUANTUM SHADOW shifting out and bumping the hind quarters of PUPPY TORQUE, which became unbalanced.

GALLINARI was held up and unable to improve from leaving the 500m and had difficulty obtaining clear running until leaving the 100m.

COOLOOLA was held up in the early part of the straight when awkwardly placed on the heels of SIPAHI (G. Cooksley).

Approaching the 200m COOLOOLA and DEMIVAL bumped on two occasion and near the 100m DEMIVAL was steadied when tightened for room between GALLINARI, which shifted in slightly and COOLOOLA, which shifted out. C. Munce (COOLOOLA) was advised to exercise more care.

R. Wiggins (QUANTUM SHADOW) reported at scale that his intentions were to ride the horse in accordance with its usual racing pattern, however after only beginning fairly, QUANTUM SHADOW was unable to muster any early speed and settled at the rear of the field.

A post-race veterinary examination of SO PARISIAN (M. Cahill), which performed below market expectations, revealed no abnormalities.

The veterinary surgeon reported that LOVE ROCKS (P. Hammersley) sustained lacerations to the inside of the near hock and to the outside of the off hind tendon, consistent with being galloped on.

Race 3: CHANNEL SEVEN F&M MAIDEN PLATE - 1200m
1st – Beach Babe 2nd – Fiesty Belle 3rd – Sequends 4th – Whispering Tess

The start of this race was delayed when ARTIVA (T. Bell) had to be resaddled behind the barriers.

SEQUENDS (R. Myers) overraced for a short distance near the 800m.

GENTLE SPIRIT (L. Cassidy) and JUNGIRA (P. Hammersley) both raced wide throughout.

Race 5: MCGRATH ESTATE AGENTS C,G&E MAIDEN PLATE - 1200m
1st – Moment Of Impact 2nd – Hard Ticker/Crashing 4th – Crackerjet

Trainer R. Hurley pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 135A in that he failed to notify stewards that MAJOR MIKE (C. Munce) would be ridden in the race in a manner different from the manner in which the horse was ridden at its most recent start and was fined $200.

Shortly after the start WEHRMAN (M. Cahill), CRACKERJET (R. Wiggins) and FIRST OFFICER (L. Cassidy) were all tightened for room between CRASHING (P. Hammersley) and SILKEN ENDURANCE (T. Bell), which shifted in. In this incident WEHRMAN made heavy contact with the hind quarters of CRASHING and lost ground.

CRACKERJET and SILKEN ENDURANCE raced wide throughout.

Near the 300m FIRST OFFICER was momentarily held up when attempting to improve between WEHRMAN and EMERALD DUKE (G. Goold), which shifted out slightly. FIRST OFFICER was then shifted inwards in order to improve and approaching the 200m was again inconvenienced when attempting to take a run to the inside of EMERALD DUKE, which shifted in slightly.

EMERALD DUKE raced greenly in the home straight and over the concluding stages was steadied when tightened for room between MOMENT OF IMPACT (J. Lloyd) and HARD TICKER (G. Colless), both of which shifted

Race 6: JEEP CLASS 4 H’CAP - 1350m
1st – Altai Warrior 2nd – My Quilter 3rd – Vacallo 4th – Not To Share

VACALLO (G. Colless) knuckled on jumping away.

MATABRAHMA (J. Byrne) was slow into stride.

Apprentice K. Matheson, the rider of MY QUILTER, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that leaving the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of SPIRITIST (N. Perrett), causing that runner to be taken in across the rightful running of MISS BRADBURY (T. Bell), resulting in MISS BRADBURY being tightened for room between SPIRITIST and ALTAI WARRIOR (R. Wiggins) and being checked as a consequence. Apprentice Matheson’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 meetings, with the term to commence at midnight on Saturday, 15 December, and expire at midnight on Friday, 28 December 2012.

Trainer D. Forster reported that WEEDREAMED (M. Cahill), which raced disappointingly, would be spelled.

A post-race veterinary examination of MATABRAHMA (J. Byrne), which raced below expectations, revealed no abnormalities at the time of inspection.

Race 7: PATINACK FARM CLASS 3 PLATE - 1020m
1st – Show Affection 2nd – Hollyweird 3rd – Stradon 4th – Athabasca

ATHABASCA (N. Tomizawa) was slow to begin.

KING CRUSADER (J. Byrne) and STRADON (R. Wiggins) were tightened on jumping away between MR THATCHER (G. Goold) and ALL IS GOLD (Michael Palmer), which began awkwardly and shifted out.

ALL IS GOLD and CRAIGLEA MODEL (T. Harrison) overraced during the early stages.

STRADON, KING CRUSADER and MORGAN MISS (K. Yoshida) raced wide throughout.

ALL IS GOLD was inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.

ATHABASCA was held up from the 300 until inside the 100m where it was positioned to the outside of SHOW A PRINCE (C. Munce) in order to improve.

A post-race veterinary examination of LITTLE MRS MURPHY, which raced extremely wide throughout, revealed the mare to have a poor post-race recovery rate.

Stewards questioned jockey N. Tomizawa regarding his riding of ATHABASCA between the 400m and the winning post, in particular his lack of vigour shown in the early stages of the straight. Jockey Tomizawa stated that the horse settled at the rear of the field, which is its usual racing pattern, however, approaching the home turn he was reluctant to improve his position to the outside and elected to ride for luck. He added that in the early stages of the straight he was unable to obtain clear running until approaching the 200m whereby he was disappointed for a run between SHOW A PRINCE (C. Munce) and ELITE ATEATES (K. Matheson) and therefore elected to come to the outside of SHOW A PRINCE and to the inside of KING CRUSADER to obtain clear running and the horse finished the race off well. Trainer T. Sears confirmed the instructions and stated that he was satisfied with the ride in the circumstances. Stewards advised jockey Tomizawa that in all the circumstances they would not take the matter any further but were concerned with his lack of vigour shown from the 350m to a point near the 200m and advised him in future not to leave himself open to question.
