Race 1: CARLTON DRAUGHT OPEN H’CAP - 1630m
Apprentice A. Allen reported at scale that DOUBLE IMPACT was inclined to lay out for a major part of the race. A post-race veterinary examination of DOUBLE IMPACT revealed no significant findings.
Race 2:SKYRACING.TV QTIS 3YO H’CAP - 1630m
JETEYE WARRIOR (J. Byrne) jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and made heavy contact with GRAWLIX (T. Bell).
TARTAN WARRIOR (L. Cassidy) began awkwardly and lost some ground.
Near the 1300m TARTAN WARRIOR, when overracing, had to be restrained from the heels of TREASURE MAP (C. Munce), and in doing so shifted out and bumped heavily with PANYA (P. Hammersley).
Approaching the 800m TREASURE MAP improved between SECRET HARMONY (A. Holt) and TARTAN WARRIOR where there was insufficient room and as a result had to be steadied.
Trainer K. Schweida advised that SECRET HARMONY (A. Holt) will now be sent for an immediate spell.
Race 3:POWERADE BM 95 H’CAP - 2120m
Trainer L. Treloar was questioned regarding the acceptance of both TUSKEGEE HAWK and EXCELLENT AL, failing to declare a rider for both and subsequently scratching both horses prior to the scratching deadline. Mr Treloar explained that it was his intention to run those two horses today, however after engaging a rider after acceptance time for TUSKEGEE HAWK, it came to his attention that the mare had sustained an injury to its near fore fetlock and it is now his intention to retire the horse. He added that after consulting with the connections of EXCELLENT AL, he made the decision to race EXCELLENT AL at the Sunshine Coast the following day as in his opinion his other runner ESCOFFIER was the hardest to beat in today’s race. Stewards accepted his explanation. Mr Treloar was advised, however, that should TUSKEGEE HAWK race again, a veterinary clearance must be produced.
WRITER (A. Kitson) overraced in the early stages.
Passing the 1600m HANDSOME (T. Bell) shifted in and brushed the running rail.
WRITER laid out rounding the home turn, which enabled MUKADDAMAH SON (D. Browne) to obtain a run to the inside of that runner.
Race 4: SEQUALO @ LYNDHURST F&M CLASS 6 PLATE - 1350m
GOTTA BE LUCKY (A. Allen) was examined by the veterinary surgeon behind the barriers at the request of the rider and passed fit to start.
Soon after the start ZAMBONI (K. Matheson) and MY SHABELLA (R. McMahon) were tightened for room between STYLE MUSIC (G. Goold) and CUDDLESOME (C. Munce), which shifted in.
JACQUETTA (J. Johnson) raced three wide throughout.
When asked to explain the poor performance of MY SHABELLA, R. McMahon stated that mare never travelled comfortably throughout and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of MY SHABELLA revealed the mare to be slightly lame in the off fore fetlock. Trainer B. Hill advised that MY SHABELLA will now be sent for an immediate spell.
Race 5: THE GOOD GUYS CLASS 6 PLATE - 1110m
SHAZZLE PAZZLE (A. Allen) overraced in the early stages.
Apprentice G. Goold, the rider of GOLDEN TRINKETS, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that approaching the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of JANTZEN (L. Cassidy), resulting in JANTZEN having to be checked and D’JET (A. Holt), which was trailing, having to be restrained. Apprentice Goold’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, with the term to commence at midnight on Saturday 24 August and expire at midnight on Sunday 1 September 2013.
GOLDEN CASH (G. Colless) and BUSH AVIATOR (T. Jeffries) raced wide throughout.
Soon after straightening ROYAL SHOUT (T. Harrison) was momentarily inconvenienced when tightened for room between GOLDEN CASH and BUSH AVIATOR, which shifted out under pressure.
Passing the 300m JANTZEN (L. Cassidy), when weakening, shifted in, which resulted in D’JET (A. Holt) being tightened for room and making contact with the running rail.
A post-race veterinary examination of JANTZEN, which compounded badly in the straight, revealed the gelding to be exhibiting a slower than normal recovery rate.
A post-race veterinary examination of D’JET revealed no abnormalities.
Race 6: C.P. SCOTT C,G&E CLASS 6 PLATE - 1350m
On a number of occasions in the early stages, RED CENTURION (G. Goold) made contact with the running rail when it had a tendency to hang in.
MR ORIENT (J. Byrne) raced wide throughout.
After passing the 600m KNOCKABOUT shifted out around the heels of EPIC TERRA and as a result forced REGULAR wider on the track.
Stable representative for trainer G. Pollock was advised that RED CENTURION would be ineligible to compete in the metropolitan area until it can establish more competitive form in the provincials.
Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice J. Johnson regarding the reason that REGULAR, after gaining a favourable trailing position behind KNOCKABOUT, shifted wider at the 800m and raced three wide from that point. Apprentice Johnson explained that when EPIC TERRA obtained the position outside of the leader approaching the 800m, KNOCKABOUT, which was following, had to be momentarily steadied. As a consequence, she had to restrain REGULAR. She added that due to REGULAR racing fiercely at that stage, she was unable to maintain a position in the one-wide line and elected to race three wide from that point.
When asked to explain the performance of KNOCKABOUT, C. Munce stated that the gelding travelled comfortably in the early and middle stages but when placed under pressure approaching the home turn failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of KNOCKABOUT revealed the gelding to be exhibiting a slower than normal recovery rate. Trainer reported the horse had got its tongue over the bit and was distressed. He said he would now intend on adding a tongue tie to the horse's gear.
Stewards will interview trainer J. Aitkenhead regarding the reason for KEEP IT MOIST (J. Stanley) leaving the track prior to the prescribed time.
Race 7: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB 0MW H’CAP - 1630m
Correct weight was delayed to afford apprentice A. Taylor, the rider of 2nd placegetter MY QUILTER, the opportunity of viewing the patrol footage over the final 200m to ascertain whether she had grounds on which to lodge an objection against the winner HEART OF MANY (L. Cassidy). After viewing the film in the company of trainer S. Mackinnon, apprentice Taylor indicated that she did not wish to proceed and correct weight was declared.
After travelling a short distance NUITS ST GEORGES (C. Munce) was hampered when tightened for room between JACK’S BACK (K. Matheson), which was taken in by ZAHA SECRET (S. Drake), and HEART OF MANY, which was taken out slightly by MR TESTA (R. McMahon).
JACK’S BACK overraced in the early stages.
ZAHA SECRET raced three wide throughout.
LINE OF CONFLICT (T. Harrison) overraced in the early and middle stages.
Approaching the 400m BIG DECISION (A. Coome) had to be steadied when disappointed for clear running between HEART OF MANY and HUSH POWER (M. Hellyer).
MR TESTA was unable to secure clear running in the home straight and as a result went to the line not fully tested by its rider.
NUITS ST GEORGE was held up for clear running from the 300m until approaching the 100m.
SOUL CRUSADE (T. Bell) was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure over the final 200m.
Approaching the 100m HEART OF MANY shifted in under pressure resulting in MY QUILTER (A. Taylor) being taken in on to JACK’S BACK, which had to be steadied. HEART OF MANY continued to shift in resulting in MY QUILTER having to steady and alter course. L. Cassidy (HEART OF MANY) was issued with a reprimand.
Race 8: COKE ZERO BM 75 H’CAP - 1200m
As L. Cassidy was stood down by the Club doctor following his ride in Race 7, M. Hellyer was substituted as the rider of THEFIFTHHOLE.
MANICERO (A. Holt) jumped awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with MISS BRADBURY (T. Harrison), which was in turn taken out on to TRISKELE (A. Allen).
SUBSTATION (K. Matheson) raced three wide throughout.
After passing the 800m TRISKELE improved on to the heels of GENTLE GIANT (P. Hammersley) and had to be restrained and shifted wider on the track.
