Race 1: GRINDERS COFFEE F&M H’CAP - 1350m

CATALONIA (M. Cahill) was slow to begin.

Near the 1200m MAGIC IN MOTION (R. Wiggins) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ALLTHERIGHTMOVES (A. Allen), which was taken in by CUDDLESOME (B. Stewart).

ALLTHERIGHTMOVES raced wide throughout without cover.

Near the 800m LASSILA (J. Johnson) had to be momentarily eased when ELUSIVE STORM (S. Payne) shifted in when not quite clear.

MAGIC IN MOTION was unable to secure clear running rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight.

CUDDLESOME laid in under pressure in the straight.

Apprentice S. Payne (ELUSIVE STORM) was fined $200 for using the whip in consecutive strides in a forehand manner prior to the 100m.

Race 2: XXXX GOLD BM90 H’CAP - 1600m

As B. Stewart was to be overweight, M. Cahill was substituted as the rider of ALLKNIGHT SAINT. B. Stewart was fined $100.

Trainer R. Heathcote advised that from the inside barrier BEWHATYOUWANNABE (G. Colless) may be ridden closer to the lead. The horse was ridden accordingly.

KING KAMADA (M. Du Plessis) and VESPER (E. Wilkinson) were slow to begin.

ALLKNIGHT SAINT (M. Cahill) shifted in soon after the start and bumped CRACCO (A. Allen).

MR LIGHT BLUE (T. Harrison) raced three wide in the early stages until assuming a position outside the lead near the 800m.

Approaching and rounding the home turn KING KAMADA was held up for clear running.

M. Cahill reported at scale that as ALLKNIGHT SAINT was overracing passing the 800m reason he elected to leave a trailing position and allow his mount to stride forward.

Race 3: CHANNEL SEVEN MICK DITTMAN PLATE – 1110m

ROUGH COPY, which loosened a plate in the horse stall area, resulting in the presence of some blood, was examined by the veterinary surgeon prior to Race 2 and passed fit to take its place in the field.

The start was delayed when SEPT DE COEURS (D. Thornton), which cast a plate during its preliminary, had it refitted at the barriers.

SEPT DE COEURS and LE VAL (T. Bell) both jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

DIAMOND ANGEL (C. Munce) shifted in soon after the start and made heavy contact with ROUGH COPY (J. McDonald).

HALLSIDE ROSE (E. Wilkinson), VO HEART (T. Harrison) and LONDEHERO (G. Colless) raced three wide throughout.

THOMAS THE TANK (A. Allen) raced extremely wide throughout the event.

A. Spinks, the rider of ARCHITECT, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 400m he allowed his mount to shift out when not fully clear of ROUGH COPY, resulting in ROUGH COPY having to be checked and losing its position. A. Spinks’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, with the term to commence at midnight on Saturday 17 May and expire at midnight on Tuesday 27 May 2014.

SHILLACKING (R. Wiggins) lost its near fore plate in running.

Race 4: BOLLINGER CHAMPAGNE CLASSIC - 1200m

TIME FOR WAR (D. Thornton), which was fractious in the barriers, jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

AMIZADE (M. Rodd) knuckled at the start.

AMIZADE raced three wide without cover throughout.

N. Rawiller (BRAZEN BEAU) was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in after leaving the 900m, resulting in SHAUMARI (K. McEvoy) having to be steadied.

After passing the 200m FURBISH (J. Byrne) shifted out to avoid the heels of the tiring AMIZADE and made heavy contact with TIME FOR WAR (D. Thornton). A short distance later FURBISH again made contact with TIME FOR WAR, resulting in that runner becoming unbalanced. J. Byrne was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

A post-race veterinary examination of TIME FOR WAR revealed no abnormalities.

Race 5: LANDFILL LOGISTICS CHAIRMAN’S H’CAP - 2000m

HEARTFELT QUEST (K. McEvoy) reared at the start and lost considerable ground. As a result, K. McEvoy momentarily lost the use of his offside iron.

LAUREN TATE (J. Taylor) was slow to begin.

Approaching the winning post on the first occasion ARCTIC (E. Wilkinson) had to be steadied away from the heels of EIGHT’S A PARTY (T. Bell), which shifted in. T. Bell was reprimanded.

After passing the 400m ARCTIC had to be checked when tightened for room between RAEBURN (L. Cassidy) and PERFECT START (J. McDonald), which after establishing a run to the outside of MALING (A. Spinks), was then taken out slightly when that runner shifted ground when tiring.

A. Spinks (MALING) dropped his whip soon after straightening.

Race 6: MITTYS ROUGH HABIT PLATE - 2000m

TELEPATHIC, which had undergone treatment for a minor skin infection on the off foreleg and was examined by the veterinary surgeon on Thursday, was again examined on the morning of today’s meeting for minor heel bruising in the off foreleg and was passed fit to start by the veterinary surgeon.

VILANOVA (K. McEvoy) and AMEXED (M. Rodd) were severely hampered at the start when tightened for room between PHEIDON (N. Rawiller) and AVALANCHES (S. Galloway), both of which shifted ground.

ARKI (D. Browne) was slow to begin.

On jumping away, ALWAYS A GIBBERER (T. Bell) shifted out and made heavy contact with the hind quarters of ROCK SCENT (M. Cahill).

RUDY (T. Harrison) raced three wide without cover throughout.

Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight ARKI was unable to secure clear running when awkwardly placed at the heels of RUDY.

After passing the 300m GLORIOUS LAD (J. McDonald) forced a run between PHEIDON and AVALANCHES, resulting in AVALANCHES, which was weakening, having to be steadied when tightened for room between GLORIOUS LAD and RUDY. J. McDonald was issued with a severe reprimand and advised to ensure he has sufficient room when attempting to improve into a run in the future.

N. Rawiller was asked to explain the performance of PHEIDON. Jockey Rawiller stated that the gelding travelled comfortably but did not sprint as expected under pressure in the home straight and in his view may have come to the end of its current preparation. He added that connections had indicated to him that the horse will now be spelled.

Race 7: BUNDABERG DISTILLING CO. BTC CUP – 1200m

HOT SNITZEL (N. Rawiller) was inclined to overrace in the early stages and when being restrained passing the 800m commenced to hang out and continued to do so in the middle stages of the race.

When questioned, D. Browne stated that BUFFERING did not begin as well as he expected and took some time under heavy riding to improve into a forward position when in his opinion, even when it has been slow to begin, the horse usually is quick to muster early speed. He added that during the middle stages BUFFERING travelled comfortably and responded to his riding rounding the home turn, however found the line only fairly and in his opinion was flat in its finishing performance.

G. Colless reported that in his opinion the track today was too firm for TIGER TEES.

R. Wiggins, the rider of FAMOUS SEAMUS, was fined $400 for making a celebratory gesture prior to his mount passing the winning post.

Stewards sought an explanation from trainer N. Mayfield-Smith regarding the improved performance of FAMOUS SEAMUS today. Mr Mayfield-Smith stated that the horse had worked well leading up to today’s race and has raced best in the past when able to make its run to the outside of other horses. Mr Mayfield-Smith added that the gelding may not have appreciated racing a short time after arriving in Brisbane at its last start, adding that the horse appreciated the racing surface today and he was confident of its winning chances.

Race 8: YELLOWGLEN BRIBIE H’CAP - 1110m

After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage, J. McDonald, the rider of 2nd placegetter METALLURGICAL, lodged an objection against PURE PURRFECTION (J. Byrne) being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 400m. After taking evidence from all parties concerned and viewing the videos, stewards were of the opinion that METALLURGICAL had not established a run to the inside of PURE PURRFECTION at that point and dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings. At a subsequent inquiry jockey McDonald was fined $200 for lodging a frivolous protest.

CAPE KIDNAPPERS (M. Cahill), which became fractious in the barriers, was removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

CAPE KIDNAPPERS jumped awkwardly, shifted out and made heavy contact with DOUBTFILLY (L. Cassidy), which was taken out on to the hind quarters of EXCELLANTES (D. Browne).

TERMS OF TRADE (K. Matheson) and SALUTER (R. Wiggins) raced three wide throughout.

EXCELLANTES raced extremely wide throughout.

CAPE KIDNAPPERS raced three wide throughout without cover.

G. Colless, the rider of THE WHITE HOPE, reported that his mount was reluctant to hold its position approaching the first turn between SHAFEEQ (V. Colgan) and SEEKING MORE (C. Munce), which shifted in slightly.

A. Coome, the rider of OUR BOY MALACHI, reported that whilst the gelding had to do some work in the early stages to cross SEEKING MORE and SHAFEEQ, he was nonetheless disappointed with its efforts in finishing the race off and felt that the gelding raced flat today.
