SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS: Nil

Race 1: Qld Reef And Beef Benchmark 95 H'Cap - 1200m

HEROIC ACTION (APP B. Appo) which became fractious in the barriers was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race.

HLUDOWIG (K. Wharton) and SPATHA (App T. Harrison) were slow to begin.

MISHANI STEALTH (J. Taylor) jumped in at the start making contact with VEEWAP (L. Nolen).

ESCOFFIER (G. Boss) had to be steadied soon after the start when tightened for room between VINTAGE MOSS (M. Cahill) and G’DAY OLD MATE (G. Colless), which shifted in.

G’DAY OLD MATE overraced in the early stages of the event.

Near the 800m MISHANI STEALTH had to be steadied to avoid the heels of COMMANDARE (B. Stewart), which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. B. Stewart the rider of COMMANDARE was issued with a reprimand and advised to show greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

COMMANDARE laid in behind the heels of THEFT (J. Byrne) making the home turn.

Approaching the 200m KEMPELLY (N. Tomizawa) shifted out around the heels of BLACK CASH (J. McDonald) and brushed VINTAGE MOSS.

ESCOFFIER was unable to secure clear running in the home straight and as a result went to the line not fully tested by its rider.

MISHANI STEALTH was inclined to lay in under pressure over the final 200m.

KEMPELLY shifted in towards BLACK CASH approaching the finish line and as a result N. Tomizawa did not ride KEMPELLY out in his normal manner.

BLACK CASH raced 3 wide without cover throughout the event.

VINTAGE MOSS, G’DAY OLD MATE and GUNDY SON (R. Wiggins) all raced wide throughout the event.

A post race veterinary examination of KEMPELLY revealed the gelding to be suffering from a mild case of heat stress.

Race 2: Channel Seven Dalrello Stakes - 1200m

KELVIN THE KRUEL (G. Colless) was slow to begin.

BASSILLIQUE (N. Rawiller) jumped very awkwardly and shifted out making heavy contact with MIDNIGHT ALLURE (B. Evans), resulting in that runner being severely hampered. A short distance later MIDNIGHT ALLURE shifted in abruptly and then raced greenly for the remainder of the event. Trainer B. Currie was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse in respect to its racing manners.

RED CLAW (T. Bell) also jumped away awkwardly.

Near the 1000m TRUE ROYAL (M. Cahill) hung in and shifted in despite the efforts of its rider resulting in VELOZ (R. Wiggins) being taken in onto BASSILLIQUE, which had to be checked when tightened for room between VELOZ and OUR ROCK O’REILLY (B. Stewart). TRUE ROYAL continued to hang in resulting in VELOZ having to be steadied from the heels of that horse near the 900m. Trainer J. McLachlan was advised that a warning would be placed on the colt in regards to its racing manners today.

Approaching the 1000m OUR ROCK O’REILLY shifted in and made heavy contact with the hind quarters of MEGA D’ORO (App A. Allen) and as a result OUR ROCK O’REILLY became unbalanced and lost ground. BASSILLIQUE which was following also had to be steadied.

After passing the 800m BOUDIN BLANC (R. McMahon) shifted in away from BASSILLIQUE and bumped heavily with MIDNIGHT ALLURE, resulting in that gelding making heavy contact with the running rail and becoming unbalanced.

OUR ROCK O’REILLY raced greenly in the home straight and approaching the 100m was awkwardly placed at the heels of VELOZ and for this reason rider B. Stewart did not pressure the horse to the end of the race.

Stewards sought an explanation from N. Rawiller regarding the performance of BASSILLIQUE. Jockey Rawiller stated that after sustaining interference on 2 occasions in the early part of the race he was then obliged to race 3 wide from the 900m and BASSILLIQUE did not respond to his riding when placed under pressure rounding the home turn. Trainer T. Edmonds advised he was disappointed with today’s performance and will review the colt’s current racing preparation and may recommend to connections that BASSILLIQUE be gelded. A post race veterinary examination of BASSILLIQUE revealed no significant findings.

Race 3: Gallopers Sports Club Lancaster Stakes -1200m

EMOTIONS IN MOTION was declared a late scratching at 11.10 a.m. by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice after the filly injured its off hind leg en route to the track.

ROSELLA (J. McDonald) was slow to begin.

CASTANITA (L. Nolen) jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and made heavy contact with KALABEK (N. Rawiller), which was taken out onto the hind quarters of SHINJI (App T. Harrison), resulting in KALABEK becoming unbalanced and losing ground.

Approaching and passing the 600m ROSELLA, when overracing, had to be restrained from the heels of FREEZETHEMILLIONS (R. McMahon).

Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight until near the 250m FREEZETHEMILLIONS was held up for clear running.

SARISARA (T. Bell) raced 3 wide without cover throughout the event.

KALABEK, CASTANITA and LEAD HUSSON (J.P. Stanley) all raced 3 wide throughout the event.

BAMBINO CLEMENTINE (B. Stewart) and STAR DROP (G. Boss) both raced extremely wide throughout the event.

When asked to explain the performance of KALABEK rider N. Rawiller stated that the filly overraced badly in the early stages and following this hung out and did not travel comfortably and in his view was disappointing. Trainer B. Stanley advised that KALABEK seemed to race greenly having its first start in this direction and he would consult with connections about spelling the horse and will advise stewards of the outcome early in the week. A post race veterinary examination of KALABEK revealed the filly to have a slower than normal post race recovery rate and had a small abrasion on the off hind leg, which was consistent with being galloped on.

Race 4: Designline Graphics Juanmo Stakes – 1200m

SINGLE STYLE (C. Newitt) stood flatfooted at the start and lost considerable ground.

LA TIKKA ROSA (G. Colless) raced 3 wide without cover throughout the event.

When asked to comment on the performance of SHE CAN SKATE rider J. Taylor stated that the mare did not muster the necessary speed to race in the leading division and as a result settled in a position with cover along the rails. Jockey Taylor added that SHE CAN SKATE was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn and failed to quicken when placed under pressure soon after straightening and in his view was very disappointing.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Dead 4 retrospective.

Race 5: Ascend Sales Trophies Fred Best Classic Group 3 - 1350m

HOPFGARTEN (D. Browne) jumped very awkwardly and shifted out and bumped the hind quarters of SPLENDORA (G. Colless).

SIR MOMENTS (T. Bell) overraced in the early and middle stages of the event.

Near the 700m HOPFGARTEN was tightened for room by SPLENDORA and became awkwardly placed at that horse’s heels for a short distance.

QUEENS OF THE LOCHS (App T. Harrison) raced 3 wide without cover throughout the event.

ENQUARE (J. Byrne) and OLYMPIC ANTHEM (M. Cahill) raced 3 wide throughout the event.

LIZARDS LOVER (J. Cassidy) raced extremely wide throughout the race.

When asked to comment on the performance of HUCKLEBUCK jockey D. Tourneur stated that the gelding raced keenly in the early stages, which he attributed to being fresh having not raced for over 2 months. Jockey Tourneur added that approaching the first turn he had hoped to obtain cover trailing DOTHRAKI (N. Rawiller) however, when that runner settled to his outside this resulted in him maintaining the lead and continuing to overrace in the middle stages. This, in his view resulted in the horse weakening over the final 100m.

D. Browne reported that HOPFGARTEN was not suited to dropping back from its last start win over 1600m to the 1350m of today’s race. Jockey Browne added that after being slow to begin he did not travel comfortably and was unable to maintain a trailing position behind VOODOO BLUE MAGIC (R. Wiggins) in the back straight. Jockey Browne further added that HOPFGARTEN will be better suited over races of a further distance than that of today.

Stewards sought an explanation from J. Byrne regarding the performance of ENQUARE. Jockey Byrne stated that he was unable to secure a position any better than 3 wide although he had cover trailing QUEEN OF THE LOCHS from the 900m. Jockey Byrne added that he was unable to improve into the race between the 600m and 400m when QUEEN OF THE LOCHS commenced to weaken although when he placed ENQUARE under pressure soon after straightening the filly did not respond to his riding and was disappointing.

Race 6: XXXX Gold The Roses Group 2 - 2000m

CROOKED STICK (G. Colless) was slow to begin and was then tightened for room soon after the start between CHOP CHOP (R. McMahon) and NAVELINA (B. Stewart), which shifted in.

HERA (J. Cassidy), CRUZ BY (L. Cassidy) and NIGHTINGALES (J. McDonald) all overraced in the early stages of the event.

CHOP CHOP raced 3 wide in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward.

Approaching the 1400m HERA continued to overrace and as a result shifted wider and was allowed to stride forward resulting in CHOP CHOP being forced wider.

HERA continued to race keenly in the middle stages of the event.

After passing the 600m NIGHTINGALES was unable to improve when awkwardly placed at the heels of CROOKED STICK until the early part of the home straight.

Near the 300m CHOP CHOP, when weakening, had to be steadied when tightened for room between ROCK DIVA (L. Innes) and CRUZ BY, which was taken out by CROOKED STICK. Whilst stewards acknowledged that CROOKED STICK had shifted out further after being corrected by G. Colless however, he was nonetheless issued with a reprimand and advised to show greater care when shifting ground in future.

LITTLE BIT DITSY (M. Cahill) raced 3 wide throughout the event.

A post race veterinary examination of HERA revealed the filly was exhibiting signs of soreness over the rump and was short striding in front. Connections will be advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to HERA again racing.

Race 7: Titan Energy Services Doomben Cup Group 1 - 2000m

After passing the winning post on the first occasion JUNOOB (N. Rawiller) was bumped and tightened for room by MR O’CEIRIN (G. Boss).

Near the 150m MR O’CEIRIN had to be steadied when tightened for room between MORIARTY (C. Newitt) and JUNOOB, which shifted in under pressure. N. Rawiller the rider of JUNOOB was issued with a reprimand and advised to stop riding and straighten his mounts to afford his fellow riders sufficient racing room in future.

Stewards sought an explanation from B. Rawiller regarding the riding tactics he adopted on AKZAR and the overall performance of that gelding. Jockey Rawiller stated that the gelding settled at the rear of the field as is its customary racing pattern. Jockey Rawiller added that near the 700m he elected to improve to the inside of ANGEL OF MERCY (D. Browne) and save ground rounding the turn rather than having to improve around SLOW PACE (J. Cassidy) on what he thought was an inferior section of the track. Jockey Rawiller further added that AKZAR improved into the race in the early part of the home straight and finished the race off strongly but was not suited when the tempo of the event was only moderate in the early stages and developed into a sprint home over the final 600m.

A post race veterinary examination of SLOW PACE revealed the gelding to be sore in both fore legs and was found to have the thumps. Connections were advised that they must produce a veterinary certificate of fitness.

Race 8: Darley BRC Sprint Group 3 - 1350m

TRANSPORTER (J. Cassidy) was slow to begin.

Soon after the start TRANSPORTER was tightened for room between FILLYDELPHIA (G. Colless) and LUCKY HUSSLER (J. Taylor), which shifted out.

FILLYDELPHIA and STARTSMEUP (J. Byrne) both overraced in the early stages of the event.

B. Stewart the rider of STEEL ZIP was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that passing the 1200m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of LUCKY HUSSLER (J. Taylor), resulting in LUCKY HUSSLER having to be checked. B. Stewart’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of seven (7) meetings to commence midnight 18 May 2014 and expire midnight 27 May 2014.

DANCES ON STARS (M. Cahill) raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

B. Stewart was fined the sum of $200.00 for failing to ride STEEL ZIP out to the finish of the race.

A post race veterinary examination of SOLZHENITSYN (N. Rawiller), which finished a distant last, revealed the gelding to be lame in the near side fore leg. Trainer R. Heathcote was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required prior to SOLZHENITSYN racing again. Mr Heathcote indicated that he will consult with connections regarding the horse’s immediate racing future.
