GENERAL
The following horses were pre-race sampled during the week leading up to day’s meeting: Knoydart, Sampeah, Allez Eagle, Look To The Stars, Sacred Star, Fontelina, Villa Verde, Silent Achiever, Pornichet, Tokamak, Bymonashee, Blueberry Hill, Desert General, Pepperano, Temple Of Boom, Cape Kidnappers, Hopfgarten, Bring Me The Maid, Srikandi, Alma’s Fury, Reckless Abandon.
Race 1: City Property Services Princess Stakes – Listed (3yo Fillies) –
2000m
RATHER HEROIC – Commenced to overrace passing the winning post on the first occasion, and threw its head in the air on a number of occasions and continued to overrace in the middle stages. Jockey B. Rawiller reported at scale his mount hung out throughout the race. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
EXCITING DOLL – Steadied near the 1800m when momentarily tightened for room. Overraced in the early and middle stages.
BOHEMIAN LILLY – Shifted out and bumped BALLET SUITE near the 600m.
BALLET SUITE – Bumped after passing the winning post on the first occasion. Bumped near the 600m.
ZARZALI – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
Race 2: Mitty’s Rough Habit Plate – 2000m
BREWERY – Raced in restricted room for some distance passing the winning post on the first occasion. Overraced in the middle stages.
INAUGURATION – Hampered soon after the start when tightened for room. Held up and unable to improve approaching the rounding the home turn.
ROCKLEIGH – Hampered soon after the start when tightened for room. Had to be checked approaching the 1900m when overracing to avoid the heels of RECKLESS ABANDON, which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. G. Golless, rider of RECKLESS ABANDON, was issued with a severe reprimand. When overracing in the early stages had to be restrained to avoid the heels of JUMBO PRINCE approaching the winning post on the first occasion.
UPHAM – Had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SADLER’S LAKE near the 1600m. B. Shinn, rider of SADLER’S LAKE, was issued with a severe reprimand and advised to afford his fellow riders greater clearance when shifting ground in the future.
CHILLIN WITH DYLAN – Pulled hard in the middle stages. Held up and unable to improve approaching the rounding the home turn.
RECKLESS ABANDON – Held up and unable to improve approaching the rounding the home turn.
JUMBO PRINCE – Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight.
Race 3: Designline Graphics Juanmo Stakes – 1200m
SISTER EMMA – Slow to begin. Jockey G. Colless pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 200m he shifted out when not fully clear of ELLAWISDOM, resulting in ELLAWISDOM being taken out across the rightful running of MADE TO ORDER, which had to be checked. Jockey Colless continued to shift out at approximately the 100m, which resulted in ELLAWISDOM having to be checked. Jockey Colless was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 9 May and to expire at midnight, 24 May. In assessing penalty stewards took into account the high degree of carelessness shown by G. Colless in this incident.
ELLAWISDOM – Checked near 100m.
MADE TO ORDER – Checked near the 100m. Lost its near fore plate in running.
DISCREET – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
Race 4: James Boag’s Premium Members’ H'cap – 1600m
EPIC - Connections advised that the horse would be ridden in a more forward position if circumstances permit. EPIC subsequently settled midfield with cover.
HVASSTAN – A veterinary examination of the horse at the barriers cleared the horse to race.
JETSET LAD – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the home straight until passing the 200m.
BALIGARI – Held up for clear running between the 200m and approaching the 100m. Jockey R. McMahon was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in nearing the 100m, causing a tightening to LASER HAWK.
ZOOMANIA – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
LASER HAWK - Steadied to avoid heels when tiring approaching the 100m. Jockey H. Boman reported that, in his opinion, the gelding was not suited by the quick tempo of the race and may be better suited over longer distances. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slight respiratory noise, and a swab sample was taken.
NEO – A post race veterinary examination of the horse revealed soreness in the off fore knee. Trainer S. Kendrick was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next race start.
Race 5: Bollinger Champagne Classic - 1200m
DE LAGO JET – Examined by the veterinary surgeon after becoming fractious its race day stall and cleared to race. Raced 4 wide without cover.
SECRET SAGA – Jumped away awkwardly and then was inconvenienced shortly after the start. Raced fiercely in the middle stages.
LOOK TO THE STARS – Knuckled as it entered the track, dislodging its rider. The horse was examined by the veterinary surgeon at the barriers and cleared to race. Jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, bumped another runner. Raced fiercely in the early stages.
IT’S VEGAS BABY – Bumped at the start.
LE CHEF - Blundered at the start. Restrained from heels passing the 800m when the pace steadied. A post race veterinary examination of failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer D. Hansen could offer no excuse for the poor performance and undertook to report to stewards any abnormality with the horse that becomes apparent in the days following. A swab sample was taken.
DESERT MAN – Had to be restrained from heels when the pace steadied passing the 800m.
WICKED INTENT – Jockey D. Browne was severely reprimanded for slowing the pace of the race after leaving the 800m, resulting in DESERT MAN, which was following, having to be steadied.
BLUEBERRY HILL – Raced 3 wide without cover.
Race 6: Darley BRC Sprint - 1350m
JOPA – As P. Hammersley was to be overweight, L. Tarrant was substituted as the rider of that gelding. P. Hammersley was fined $200.
NITE ROCKER – Examined by the veterinary surgeon at the barriers and cleared to race.
BYMONASHEE – Slow to begin.
TOKAMAK – The saddle shifted forward in the early stages when the gelding was pulling hard.
CHARLIE BOY – Overraced for some distance passing the 900m.
SPEEDINESS – Eased near the 500m when tightened for room between TOKAMAK and ESTONIAN PRINCESS.
FINAL CRESCENDO – Hung in under pressure in the straight.
TYPHOON RED – Jockey G. Goold was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he allowed his mount to shift out rounding the home turn, taking ESTONIAN PRINCESS out on to the heels of TOKAMAK, which had to be checked. Jockey Goold was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 race meetings, to commence at midnight, 16 May and to expire at 27 May.
Jockey G. Goold advised that it was not his intention to settle as far back in the field as he did, however after not beginning well rather than being caught wide he elected to settle at the rear of the field.
ESTONIAN PRINCESS – Jockey K. McEvoy pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that approaching the first turn he allowed his mount to shift in resulting in GUNDY SPIRIT being taken in on to BYMONASHEE, which had to be checked. Jockey McEvoy was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 9 May and to expire at midnight, 21 May. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
GUNDY SPIRIT – Lost its off fore plate in running.
Race 7: The Bundaberg Rum Doomben Cup – Group 1 – 2000m
LEEBAZ – Slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse had been galloped on on the near hind leg.
SILENT ACHIEVER – Passing the winning post on the first occasion had to be checked when tightened for room between LEEBAZ, which shifted in, and BANCA MO, which made the turn out of the straight awkwardly and shifted out slightly.
GYPSY DIAMOND – Tightened for room passing the winning post on the first occasion.
PORNICHET - Tightened for room passing the winning post on the first occasion. D. Holland, rider of BANCA MO, was advised to exercise more care in future when shifting ground.
ESCADO – Raced ungenerously passing the 1600m.
GREEN MOON – Raced 3 wide in the early stages.
WEARY – Race 3 wide without cover throughout.
Race 8: Ubet BTC Cup – Group 1 (Weight For Age) – 1200m
SACRED STAR – Declared a late scratching at 2.28 pm on veterinary advice after being examined at its stable and found to be lame in the off foreleg.
CAPE KIDNAPPERS – Knuckled badly at the start.
SCISSOR KICK – Slow to begin.
BIG MONEY – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
EL ROCA – Raced 3 wide without cover.
TEMPLE OF BOOM – Raced 3 wide throughout.
NOSTRADAMUS – Raced 3 wide throughout.
SRIKANDI – Rider D. Browne reported that the mare began very awkwardly and then travelled comfortably, however once placed under pressure soon after straightening failed to respond to his riding. Trainer C. Maher was also disappointed in the horse’s effort to finish the race off and will reported in the days following any abnormality that may explain today’s performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities and a routine swab sample was taken.
VILLA VERDE – A post race veterinary examination of revealed a slow post race recovery and had blood in its near-side nostril. Trainer A. Cummings will be advised that the horse must gallop over 1000m to the satisfaction of the stewards prior to racing again. He indicated it was now his intention to recommend to connections that the mare now be retired.
Race 9: IPG Connect Mick Dittman Plate – 1200m
STAVIVA – Slow to begin. Unable to obtain clear running in the straight until near the 100m.
MYWAYORTHEHIGHWAY – Pulled hard in the early stages.
LUCKY TOM – Pulled hard in the early stages.
SOLDI – Raced 3 wide without cover.
PINCH RICER – Raced 4 wide without cover.
JABALI – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
DEIHEROS – An inquiry was adjourned into R. McMahon’s use of the whip in the straight.
JABALI – Lost near hind plate in running.
