Race 1: COUNTRY MUSIC RACEDAY F&M CLASS 6 PLATE – 1200M
KALANDULA – Held up rounding the home turn.
LESLEY’S CHOICE – Had to be steadied to avoid heels after leaving the 800m. J. Byrne, the rider of SATIRICAL LASS, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in when not fully clear after leaving the 800m.
SAMMI JAIN – Slow to begin.
ANASHEED – Bumped at the start.
WIDOW’S WALK – Jumped away awkwardly and made contact with another runner. Had to be checked to avoid heels after leaving the 1100m. R. McMahon, the rider of DOULA, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in at that stage when not fully clear of that runner. R. McMahon’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, with the term to commence at midnight on Saturday 18 July and expire at midnight on Sunday 26 July 2015. In determining penalty, stewards took into account jockey McMahon’s good careless riding record and his guilty plea.
AEROBAR – Jockey R. Wiggins was unable to offer any tangible explanation for the horse’s disappointing performance.
KHALEESI – Slow to begin. Raced wide without cover.
Race 2: GARRARDS HORSE & HOUND C,G&E CLASS 6 PLATE – 1200M
CAELLUM – Raced wide without cover.
BIG DECISION – Shifted out near the 300m and bumped another runner. Had to be steadied when tightened for room between runners near the 100m.
HEADWATER COUNTRY – Trainer L. Birchley was questioned regarding the horse’s improved performance as compared to its most recent start on 8 June at Caloundra. Mr Birchley stated that after backing the gelding up quickly for that run, where it finished 12th, he had elected to space its runs to keep the gelding fresh, and this may have been the reason for the improved performance, along with it getting a soft run in front today.
FLAMBOYER – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
MR JETSET – Slow to begin. Tightened for room by runners to its outside near the 1000m.
SUIT – Bumped near the 300m. Shifted in momentarily near the 100m and was immediately straightened by its rider.
THREE BEERS PLEASE – Hung out in the middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
The track was upgraded to GOOD 3 following the running of this race.
Race 3: SKY RACING BM75 H’CAP – 2200M
Trainer D. Bougoure was fined $200 for failing to declare R. Ride as the rider of HEART STEALER by the prescribed time.
KOBI CREEK – Stewards afforded J. Byrne the opportunity to comment on the horse’s performance. He stated that the gelding had a good run throughout, however proved very disappointing overall and in his opinion the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation.
VALERIE D’AMOUR – Taken inwards by another runner near the 200m.
STOP CRYING – Slow to begin. Raced wide from the 1200m. Had to be steadied near the 200m.
KAISER FRANZ – R. Fradd was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near the 200m causing tightening to runners to his inside.
DUBAI GEE EYE – Had to be checked near the 200m.
MORE ENERGY – G. Colless reported at scale the in his opinion his mount failed to run out the 2200m today.
ROYAL EVENT – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
GLAMORGAN BABE – Slow to begin.
Following a shower of rain prior to the running of this event, the track was downgraded to GOOD 4 following the event, to be retrospective.
Race 4: DIMI CARAMALIS BUCK’S DAY QTIS 2YO H’CAP – 1110M
COUNTER MEAL – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Made contact with the hind quarter of another runner when improving quickly near the 200m and then shifted out and had to be checked away from the heels of another runner.
MONACO PLAYBOY – Raced wide throughout.
ALL TROOPS – Raced wide throughout.
CLATEAU – Raced wide throughout.
RICH TRADITION – Raced wide throughout.
TAILLEVENT – Shifted out and made contact with another runner on jumping. Raced fiercely in the early stages and had to be checked away from heels after leaving the 800m and shifted out taking JAM TOAST wider on the track. Continued to race fiercely and had to be restrained from heels approaching the home turn. Trainer B. Hill was advised that the gelding would have to trial before starting again.
BLOOMING TYCOON – Bumped on jumping. Contacted by another runner near the 200m.
Race 5: BECOME A BRC MEMBER OPEN H’CAP – 1050M
After a further shower of rain, the track was downgraded to SOFT 5 at 3:00 pm.
GOING GOING GONE – Slow to begin.
Race 6: MOUNT FRANKLIN 1MW H’CAP (THIS SEASON) – 1615M
VICTORY HOTEL – M. Cahill reported that his mount did not handle today’s track conditions.
SOROS – Slow to begin.
ARCTIC – Commenced to overrace approaching the 800m and had to be steadied away from the heels of another runner. Again had to be steadied away from heels near the 700m.
BUDGET BENDER – The veterinary surgeon reported that the gelding lost the off fore and near hind plates and had been galloped on on the off hind heel.
ELUSIVE STORM – Raced wide without cover after leaving the 800m. After being taken in by another runner near the 200m, shifted in further, tightening runners to the inside. B. Pengelly was advised to exercise more care.
WRITE CHEEK – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight and then had to be steadied away from heels near the 200m and was not tested over the concluding stages.
MOON AND THE STARS – Connections advised that from the wide barrier it would be the intention to have the mare ridden positively. The horse was ridden accordingly.
SPICE OF LIFE – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost considerable ground (5L). Trainer M. Kropp was advised that he will be required to obtain a further barrier certificate for the gelding.
CASARATI – Had to be checked when tightened for room near the 200m.
Race 7: HAMILTON HOTEL OPEN H’CAP – 1350M
As R. Wiggins was to be overweight, stewards permitted apprentice R. Jamieson to be substituted as the rider of ABU BEN ADAM when no senior rider was available at the weight. R. Wiggins was fined $200.
REAL SURREAL – M. Cahill reported that although in his opinion the mare did not handle today’s track conditions, it was nevertheless somewhat disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
CUM DIVIDEND – When questioned, apprentice B. Grylls stated that she had been instructed to ride the horse forward if possible and take a trail behind the leaders, however when it became apparent that she would be caught wide, she elected to allow her mount to stride forward and take up a position in the lead.
OUR BOY NICHOLAS – Slow to begin.
ABU BEN ADAM – Raced wide without cover.
NOT TOO SURE – Slow to begin.
Race 8: FOOD & WINE RACEDAY 22ND AUGUST QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1350M
Apprentice R. Ride was dislodged from EKKAREEZA in the parade ring.
MISCHIEVOUS DEVIL – Briefly tightened for room between runners at the entrance to the straight.
COURT’S STAR – Raced wide throughout.
DUPORTH JACK – Tightened for room between runners shortly after the start.
FIRE WITHIN – Tightened for room between runners shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout.
GOLDEN FALLS – Accidentally struck over the nose by the whip of R. McMahon (TOP TONE) near the 150m.
SPANISH SAGA – Shifted in and made contact with another runner on jumping. Had to be restrained away from the heels of FIXATION near the 800m.
TOUCH OF BELLA – Tightened for room between runners shortly after the start.
FIXATION – Tightened for room between runners shortly after the start.
FORTINI – Bled both nostrils. Ineligible to race for 3 months and prior to starting again must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward.
ABOHAR – Tightened for room between runners shortly after the start.
SILVER HEELS – Bumped at the start.
