KHALEEEQ – Had to be restrained to avoid the heels of DRAGON HUNTER passing the 800m. When questioned regarding the performance, jockey R. Fradd stated that due to the early speed drawn inside him, he was forced to settle further back than he anticipated. He added that as a result the horse did not travel comfortably at any stage and, in his opinion, is better suited on bigger tracks.

HAIR OF THE DOG – Raced 4 wide throughout.

DRAGON HUNTER – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

Race 3: Hosken Site Steel QTIS 2yo Maiden Plate (1) – 1200m

MORE THAN A ROSE – Slow to begin. Held up and unable to improve approaching and rounding the home turn. Jockey R. Wiggins reported that he contemplated improving into a run between INFINITE SUCCESS and ATTRENTE approaching the 200m, however at the same stage ATTRENTE shifted in slightly, which resulted in him shifting around the heels of that runner in order to improve. Jockey Wiggins added that MORE THAN A ROSE worked to the line only fairly when clear in the straight.

DAZZLE US AGAIN – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

NIGHTHAWK – When travelling comfortably approaching the 600m was bumped on 2 occasions by DAZZLE US, and soon afterwards was under heavy pressure and failed to respond to her riding. A post race veterinary examination of the horse, which weakened in the home straight, revealed a minor abrasion to the near hind leg.

Race 5: Country Music Raceday 12th September Maiden Plate - 1350m

SUPERSPORT – Stood flatfooted at the start and shifted out abruptly, almost dislodging rider B. Pengelly. Inconvenienced when taken wider near the 900m. Trainer R. Litton was advised that he must obtain a further barrier certificate for the horse prior to its next race start.

LIGHT ‘n’ SHADE – Slow to begin.

LUSHY – Began to overrace after passing the 900m and obliged to shift out to avoid heels.

DON’T TELL MAMA – Raced 3 wide throughout.

Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided for the horse, including the results of an endoscopic examination, prior to its next race start.

ALKIPPE – Hung in under pressure over the final 250m.

Race 9: Samuel Smith & Sons Class 5 H'cap – 1110m

TRICKY ROCKET – Tightened for room after travelling a short distance. Held up approaching the home turn when awkwardly placed at the heels of NAKANAI. Held up for clear running over the final 100m and as a result went to the line not fully tested by its rider.

APPLE THIEF – Hampered after travelling a short distance. Unable to secure clear running in the home straight approaching the 200m.

KUDERO – Shifted out to avoid the heels of TRICKY ROCKET approaching the 700m. Stewards questioned apprentice B. Grylls regarding the riding tactics she adopted, particularly over the final 350m. Apprentice Grylls stated that from the wide barrier she elected to restrain the gelding to gain a position closer to the rail, and following this KUDERO travelled well and she improved into the race from the 500m to the outside of NAKANAI. Apprentice Grylls added that although she straightened up as the widest runner in the early part of the home straight, NAKANAI kept shifting out under pressure and as a result she elected to alter course and attempt to improve between APPLE THIEF and NAKANAI near the 200m. When this run closed as a result of APPLE THIEF shifting out, she again altered course after passing the 100m to the outside of NAKANAI, and over the final stages of the race, KUDERO worked to the line very well. Trainer Mr B. Lockwood confirmed that the instructions today from the wide barrier were to restrain and settle at the rear of the field. He added that in hindsight it may have been a better option to remain to the outside of NAKANAI in the home straight to ensure KUDERO had an uninterrupted run to the finish. Stewards noted the explanation of both parties.

TOTAL AUTHORITY – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

CASH IN – Bled from both nostrils during the event. Connections were advised that gelding would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.
