Ostrofski SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS: From Charters Towers Amateur Race Club – Saturday 15.10.16: Stewards advised jockey David Sparks that they intend to open an inquiry into his riding of DON’T TELL PETE over the concluding stages of Race 4 the XXXX Gold Charters Towers Amateur Cup Benchmark 65 Handicap. Jockey Sparks was advised that the inquiry will be held at a time and date to be fixed. From BRC Doomben Jump-outs – 25.10.16: SECRET SAGA bled both nostrils. Trainer T. Gollan was advised that as this was the first occasion on which the mare had bled, it would now incur a 3-month ban from racing and must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward. From BRC Eagle Farm – Saturday 22.10.16 – Race 8: Stewards today questioned trainer R. Heathcote regarding the riding tactics apprentice B. Grylls adopted on BROTHERLY SECRET, which resulted in the horse settling in a rearward position, which is in contrast to the horse’s usual racing pattern. Mr Heathcote explained that as the horse had drawn a wide barrier he had instructed apprentice Grylls to attempt to settle in a midfield position with cover. Stewards reminded Mr Heathcote to ensure he advises of any change in tactics in the future. Race 1: CHRISTMAS FUNCTIONS @ BRC MAIDEN H’CAP – 1350M COME BY CHANCE – Raced three wide throughout. HIGH SPECS – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages. PUISSANCE DECHEVAL – Hung in in the straight. GREAT EAGLE – Hampered at the start. ORDER AGAIN – Inclined to lay in when pressured in the early part of the home straight. EL SHADAY – Trainer K. Schweida advised that the horse, which has been racing on the speed, would be ridden quieter today. The horse settled in a rearward position. TYCOON ROSSA – Raced three wide without cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Race 2: GIDDY UP CLUB MAIDEN H’CAP – 1640M OSCAR THE ENCOSTA – Slow into stride. Apprentice R. Payne reported that the horse was making an abnormal respiratory noise during the running of the event. Trainer B. Smith advised that he would have an endoscopic examination carried out on the horse following gallops during the week and report the results to stewards. ABROGATE – Began awkwardly. Raced very fiercely in the early stages and proved difficult to ride rounding the first turn. Hung out again from the 700m rounding the turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery. Trainer G. Thompson indicated that the horse will now be sent for a spell. MIA MAGIC – Apprentice T. Brooker reported that her mount was inclined to hang out throughout. MANABAR – Inconvenienced and carried wider from the 600m. Race 3: CANADIAN CLUB MELBOURNE CUP DAY F&M CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1350M No racing incidents. Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to GOOD 3. Race 4: TRACKSIDE OPENAIR CINEMA QTIS 3YO CLASS 1 PLATE – 1350M GENERAL COS – Apprentice B. Stower was dislodged on pulling up. As apprentice Stower sustained an injury to her right arm and was transported to hospital, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. HEARTS HONOUR – Raced three wide without cover until the 500m where the gelding was ridden forward to a position outside the leader. Forced wider on the track passing the 900m. MEET AND GREET – Pulled hard in the middle stages and shifted out passing the 900m, forcing another runner wider on the track. Had to be checked to avoid heels passing the 800m. Laid in near the 600m and continued to lay in under pressure in the straight. ELUSIVE AFFAIR – Slow to begin. Race 5: MOET & CHANDON CHAIRMAN’S CLUB CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M MILITARY MISS – Slow into stride. D. Browne advised that the mare was slow into stride and despite his urgings was reluctant to muster early speed and travelled only fairly throughout the run and when following the winner rounding the home turn it was unable to quicken despite his efforts and in the straight only finished the race off fairly. IZZAH – Raced three wide without cover and then from the 600m hung out badly and made the home turn wider. RENESMEE – Bumped heavily on jumping. CHASE THE WIND – Inconvenienced near the 300m. CYNISCA – Tailed out and was uncompetitive. Trainer D. Rideout was advised that the mare would be ineligible to compete at metropolitan meetings until satisfactory provincial form is established. Race 6: VEUVE SOCIETY RATINGS BAND 0-70 H’CAP – 1050M CAMOUFLAGE – Steadied near the 600m when racing in restricted room. HUNCHA DUNCHA – Crowded at the start. AMBER ALE – Slow to begin. Raced four wide without cover throughout. ONE IN ONE OUT – Raced three wide without cover. BAKER BOY – Began awkwardly. Race 7: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1640M TAIYOSHIN – Slow to muster speed. BRUMBY JACK – Slow into stride. HEROIC ROCK – As B. Pengelly was to be overweight, M. Cahill was substituted as rider. B. Pengelly was fined $100. THERMAL UNIT – Began awkwardly and then was bumped heavily. Race 8: BRC CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL C,G&E CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1350M KHALEEQ – When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, B. Pengelly explained that he had to work harder than he would have liked to take up a position close to the rail in the early stages and the horse was disappointing when asked for an effort upon straightening. He added that in his view the horse has come to the end of its current preparation. TURKANA – Crowded at the start. DIDDY WIN DIDDY – Checked severely near the 900m when KHALEEQ was taken in by HAVANA CIGAR, which shifted in. Apprentice S. Fawke, the rider of HAVANA CIGAR, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) for causing the interference and his licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days, to commence at midnight on Tuesday 1 November and expire at midnight on Saturday 12 November 2016.
