BEL’S KARMA – Hung out for a major part of the race and proved difficult to ride. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

MISHANI WRANGLER – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Overraced in the early stages.

REDWISKA – Hung out after leaving the 800m and ran wide on straightening, enabling runners to improve to the inside. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a mild case of thumps. A further veterinary examination revealed lameness in off foreleg. Trainer T. Sears was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

SERIOUS DOUBTS – Bumped on several occasions after leaving the 800m by a runner to the inside.

SHE’S SPICY – Slow to begin. Raced three wide without cover throughout.

Race 2: BRONCOS GAME DAY HOSPITALITY BENCHMARK 80 H’CAP – 1050M

ESSAY RAIDER – Slow to begin.

ANOTHER WHISKEY – Jumped awkwardly, shifted out and bumped MISTER BOOZE. When questioned, apprentice J. Oliver could offer no excuse for the horse’s performance today, adding that the gelding travelled well throughout the race, however when placed under pressure in the straight did not respond as he had anticipated.

MISTER BOOZE – Hampered when bumped heavily by ANOTHER WHISKEY at the start. When questioned regarding the horse’s disappointing performance, jockey D. Browne said the horse could not muster speed in the early stages and raced at the rear of the field and in his view will be better suited over distances longer than today’s race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the off hind leg and the near fore bumper.

OUTBACK SAGA – Slow to begin.

BEAU JET – Slow to begin.

NATURAL DANCER – Knuckled at the start. Raced three wide throughout without cover.

VOLPINO – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

VALKNUT – Raced three wide without cover.

Race 4: CONSTRUCTION SKILLS QUEENSLAND BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 2200M

As B. Stewart was to be overweight, stewards permitted apprentice T. Brooker to be substituted as the rider of SPLENDID STRYKER when no other senior rider was available at the weight.

As P. Hammersley was to be overweight, stewards permitted apprentice C. Jokic to be substituted as the rider of FIRST STIMULUS when no other senior rider was available at the weight. P. Hammersley was fined $200.

MANDRYKA – Hung out rounding the home turn.

TRALEE CHORUS – Overraced in the early stages and as a result was steadied from the heels of PERISHA near the 1400m, shifted three wide and raced three wide without cover from that point. J. Lloyd reported at scale that his mount hung in throughout the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

SHE’S A RUBY – Broke down badly passing the 250m and was retired from the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a bilateral sesamoid fracture of the off foreleg and the mare was euthanased on humane grounds.

FIRST STIMULUS – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground. Hung out approaching the home turn. Trainer K. Clark-Peoples was advised that a warning would placed on the gelding’s racing manners.

LITTLE WEALTH – Apprentice A. Sewell was fined $200 for failing to ride his mount out to the finishing line. In determining penalty, stewards were not satisfied that apprentice Sewell’s actions had cost his mount 3rd place.

Race 5: ONE KEY RESOURCES & FIRCROFT PNG CLASS 6 H’CAP – 1630M

As B. Stewart was to be overweight, M. Hellyer was substituted as the rider of COURT’S STAR. B. Stewart was fined $200 for failing to fulfil his engagements in Races 4 and 5 due to being overweight. In determining penalty, stewards took into account extenuating circumstances.

DREAM FINNISH – Taken wider by another runner near the 600m.

SPEED GONZALES – Held up for clear running in the home straight until approaching the 200m.

SILENTO – Shifted out and bumped another runner near the 600m.

Following this event a severe thunderstorm with heavy rainfall occurred, resulting in 35 millimetres of rain falling on the track. Stewards delayed making a decision on the remainder of the meeting until the rain had eased and the condition of the track could be evaluated. Acting on advice from the Course Manager Mr J. Roberts that there was surface water across the track near the winning post and that the track was unsafe for racing, stewards then cancelled the remainder of the meeting.
