SAINT ELEMENT – Bumped heavily and inconvenienced at the start.

TIPSY – Steadied near the 600m.

FILLE DU SOLEI – Raced wide without cover.

PINCENTIA – Jockey J. Mallyon explained that the horse, which was having its second start today, was drawn awkwardly and due to a number of runners drawn inside having early speed, he made the decision to restrain in the early stages and race in a rearward position. He said after doing so the tempo in the middle stages was then moderate, and as his mount raced wide. When the leader quickened the horse was unable to muster speed and only finished one paced. He was of the view the filly would be better suited with more racing and settling in a more forward position and over much longer distances than that of today’s event. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 3: www.brc.com.au CG&E Class 2 H’cap – 1200m

ZENDAYE – Change of tactics. To be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. The horse subsequently raced outside the leader.

PLAN RED – Began awkwardly and bounded when the start was effected. Then in the early stages when caught 3 wide in a rearward position was allowed to stride forward after the 900m until eventually racing outside the lead near the 600m whilst being 3 wide.

ZOFF OF THE WORLD – Held up rounding the home turn. Inclined to shift ground under pressure in the straight.

COLLEGIATE – Raced wide without cover throughout and hung in under pressure.

FUSI FOX – Jockey R. Plumb was found guilty of a charge under AR118A, in that after weighing out it was noticed by 2 officials that he had change his boots to ride in this race. R. Plumb was fined $250.

THORSBORNE – Raced wide.

Race 6: Veuve Society Membership Class 4 H’cap – 1650m

HEART STEALER – Declared a late scratching at 9 am due to clerical error at the Trainer’s Service Centre.

MARAU DAZE – Took a backward step as the gates were released, resulting in the horse missing the start considerably.

SKYTREK – Slow to begin.

SWEET SHAMROCK – A post race veterinary examination of the horse which overraced and weakened in the home straight revealed the horse was suffering from thumps.

NEARCTIC CHILLER – Jockey R. Wiggins, rider of the 3rd placegetter, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right out to the finish line.

Race 7: Relaxed Racing Benchmark 70 H’cap – 1350m

STORMY GREY – Whilst parading it was noted that the horse had shifted its off fore plate and subsequently was returned to the stalls to be replated, resulting in the start being delayed for approximately 3 minutes.

BRACTEATE – Slow into stride. Had trouble improving around the home turn and was then unable to be fully tested until a point near the 150m.

KARAKABEEL – Endeavoured to shift away from the rail near the 900m however shortly after was prevented from doing so by TAMBO’S HEART, which improved up around in advance of this horse. KARAKABEEL then travelled behind the leader, however after straightening at not stage in the straight did a full run present between FASTER THAN LIGHT and TAMBO’S HEART and as a result KARAKABEEL travelled the entire length of the straight without being able to be fully tested.

FASTER THAN LIGHT – Hung out rounding the home turn.

Race 8: Events At BRC F&M Class 2 H’cap – 1200m

RA RA EPIC – Declared a late scratching at 11.45 am when it reported to be lame.

10 cents in the dollar on 2nd place bets

13 cents in the dollar on 3rd place bets

Starting prices not subject to deduction.

SHEEZALADY – Blundered badly at the start. When questioned regarding her riding of the mare, apprentice T. Brooker explained she had been given specific instructions to lead despite the wide draw. She said after the horse blundered she was then crowded by BUNNY BAD GIRL, however after regaining her balance she was of the view that BUNNY BAD GIRL was pressing forward and she was hopeful that the horse would cross to the lead which would allow SHEZALADY to race outside BUNNY BAD GIRL. She added that after committing to pressing forward in the first 200m of the race she then became aware that BUNNY BAD GIRL was not going to be able to cross to the lead resulting in her racing 3 wide without cover for the entire event. Miss Brooker stated that before seeing the replays she realised that her ride lacked considerable judgement and in the presence of the apprentice riding advocate, Mr Scriven, stated that an alternative plan should have been made to ride a more tactical race. She was told that whilst she was a claiming apprentice, stewards considered her a senior apprentice and the tactics she adopted today showed a considerable lack of judgement and she would be expected to show far more initiative when riding in future.

GENERAL

Prior to Race 8, Stewards received a complaint from a member of the public regarding the conduct displayed by Trainer T Gollan, by his actions and verbal disgust in the ride of apprentice A. Fancourt, the rider of KARAKABEEL in Race 7. Mr Gollan denied that his conduct constituted such actions that in his opinion were out of order and was merely expressing his disappointment with the ride. Mr Gollan was reminded that as a licensee, the leading trainer in Brisbane and a prominent industry figure in Queensland, that he should at all times when performing his duties as a licensed person he would be expected to display appropriate conduct.
