HI SON – Pulled hard in the early and middle stages.  Shifted out passing the 1000m forcing another runner wider.  When questioned regarding the disappointing performance App T. Brooker stated that the gelding had a tendency to overrace in the early stages but travelled well approaching the home turn however, when placed under pressure failed to respond to her riding.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

SURFACE TENSION – Approaching the 1200m when the pace was slow was allowed to stride forward and take up a position in the lead near the 1000m.

COMACINA – Jockey R. Wiggins reported at scale it was not his intention to lead however, was unable to restrain the gelding in the early stages.

MORENDI – Jockey M. Cahill reported at scale that in his opinion the gelding was more suited today on a good track.

Race 2: Nothing But Fun! QTIS 2YO H'Cap – 1350m

PINCH PASSION was declared a late scratching by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice at 11.40 a.m.

Stewards considered an objection lodged by App M. McGillivray the rider of CAPITAL GAIN which finished 2nd against EMINENT (M. Cahill) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference in the straight.   On the evidence it was established that near the 200m CAPITAL GAIN, when racing greenly, shifted in and had to be steadied away from the heels of EMINENT.  Whilst both horses shifted ground marginally after leaving the 200m stewards were of the view that it was more the racing characteristics of CAPITAL GAIN rather than the eventual winner.  As such stewards dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored.

CAPITAL GAIN – Slow to begin.

PAH TERIE – Jumped away awkwardly. Jockey J. Lloyd reported at scale that his mount was held up approaching the home turn until near the 150m.

App M. McGillivray (CAPITAL GAIN) was examined by the Club’s Doctor following the event after he was dislodged prior to returning to scale when CAPITAL GAIN shifted in abruptly passing the crossing.  App McGillivray was subsequently cleared to fulfil his engagements.

Race 3:  Jump To The Rocket! Open H'Cap – 1110m

ICE BUCKET – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide without cover throughout.

LONDEHERO – Stewards questioned App M. McGillivray regarding the tactics adopted upon entering the home straight, particularly when there was an opportunity to improve to the outside of ICE BUCKET.  App McGillivray stated he had been instructed not to expose the gelding too early and to maintain cover for as long as possible as he was mindful the gelding only has a short sprint. Trainer M. Dunn confirm the instructions however after viewing the video conceded it would have been a better option to come to the outside at the entrance to the straight.  Stewards noted both explanations.

Race 4: Hiflow Industries High Fives! QTIS 3YO H'Cap – 2030m

SHOCK ALERT – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

ROYAL ATOM – Passing the winning post on the first occasion had to be steadied away from the heels of STOKE IT UP.  Jockey M. Cahill (STOKE IT UP) was reprimanded for permitted his mount to shift in when not fully clear.

CAPTAINS WAY – Raced wide after leaving the 1200m.

SON OF A BRUT – Near the 700m had to be steadied away from heels.

AHNDRAS – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance jockey J. Lloyd stated that the filly did not begin well today and got further back in the field than he had anticipated however, was under pressure prior to the home turn.  Jockey Lloyd added that in his opinion the filly may have come to the end of its preparation. Stable representative Trent Edmonds advised that the filly would now be spelled after its disappointing performance.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have sustained a laceration to the near hind cannon. Swab sample was taken.

MISS ARABELLA – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted trainer T. Gollan stated that at the filly’s two previous starts at Ipswich and Lismore he had instructed the riders to try and find cover as it has a tendency to overrace.  Mr Gollan advised that he had experimented with the gear, which included winkers for MISS ARABELLA today, to try to have her settle in races and he had instructed jockey P. Hammersley to try and find cover on the filly.  His explanation was noted.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Good 3 retrospective.

Race 5: Loads Of Laughter! Benchmark 75 H'Cap – 1630m

ANYMORE – Overraced in the early stages and raced wide making the first turn.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

I AM THE SCULPTOR – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance jockey J. Lloyd stated that the gelding overraced whilst there was a fast tempo in the early stages and the gelding may be better suited over a shorter distance than that of today. Stable representative Trent Edmonds agreed with jockey Lloyd that the gelding did not run out a strong 1600m and indicated it would now be their intention to give the gelding a short freshen up.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be short striding in front.  Swab sample was taken.

Race 6: Sky Thoroughbred Central Open H’Cap – 1350m

As B. Stewart was overweight stewards permitted M. Cahill to be substituted as the rider of DESERT GENERAL.  Jockey Stewart was fined $200.00.
As R. Wiggins was indisposed due to illness stewards permitted A. Spinks to be substituted as the rider of ALDINI.

ALDINI – Trainer D. Kelly advised the gelding would be ridden forward today if circumstances permit.  The gelding settled towards the rear of the field.

CANTBUYBETTER – Slow to begin.  Passing the 1200m raced in restricted room.  Passing the 600m had to be steadied away from heels.  Held up rounding the home turn.  After leaving the 300m again had to be steadied away from heels.  Near the 200m had to be checked off heels and altered course to the inside of another runner where there was insufficient room and again had to be severely checked approaching 100m.  Jockey L. Cassidy did not test his mount over the concluding stages.  Jockey Cassidy explained that on both occasions the gelding did not fully establish a run and therefore as a result stewards took no action.

HOT GOSSIP – Raced wide without cover throughout.

HIGH SPECS – When questioned as the reasons why he elected to shift outwards after leaving the 800m to race in a 3 wide position jockey J. Lloyd stated that HIGH SPECS pulled hard in the early stages and when attempting to restrain the mare would not come back to him and relax and as a result he allowed it to shift outwards approaching the 600m and away from LA DOLCE VITA.  Jockey Lloyd added that in his opinion HIGH SPECS then settled.
