Race 1: UBET CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1660M

SWEET SHAMROCK – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have thumps and to have bled from both nostrils. As this was the first occasion on which the horse has bled, it will now be ineligible to race for 3 months, and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a steward.

HABSBURG – Allowed to stride forward and assume the position outside the leader near the 1000m after being caught racing wide in the early stages.

SHINING BROOKE – Slow to begin.

BILBERRY STAR – Overraced for a short distance near the 1300m.

Race 2: XXXX GOLD MAIDEN H'CAP – 2070M

MUDGEE ROAD – Began awkwardly and lost ground. When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, S. Doyle stated that the gelding was fractious in the barriers and as a result began awkwardly, causing him to settle further back than anticipated. He added that in his view this had a detrimental effect on its performance as the gelding is one-paced and is better suited when able to dictate terms when leading.

INVERARAY – Fractious in the barriers, then began awkwardly, losing ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. A. Spinks was questioned regarding the horse’s disappointing performance. Jockey Spinks stated that after losing ground at the start he contemplated settling towards the rear of the field, however as the speed was only slow in the early stages he elected to improve forward to obtain a forward position as instructed. He added that after travelling well in the middle stages the gelding was under immense pressure from the 700m and proved disappointing.

BRIGADIER SAM – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had been galloped on on the near hind fetlock.

ASALWAS – Held up rounding the home turn.

DYLANA – Performed uncompetitively. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer D. Joice was advised that before being permitted to race again the filly must perform satisfactorily in an official trial and a veterinary clearance, including the results of an ECG, must be produced.

STAR ECHO – Commenced to hang out after passing the winning post on the first occasion and had to be restrained from the heels of BRIGADIER SAM.

THE COLUMBIAN – Had to be steadied near the 300m when tightened for room between MAJESTIC SHADOW and INVERARAY, which shifted in and away from BRIGADIER SAM, which shifted in and away from STAR ECHO, which was laying in.

Race 3: KENO 20 YEAR QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

KURUMBA – Slow to begin.

SHOWSCAY – Jumped a shadow approaching the 1000m and became awkward.

DANSEZ – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Stewards questioned apprentice T. Brooker regarding her riding in the early stages as to whether there was an opportunity to obtain cover rather than racing three wide outside the leaders. Ms Brooker stated that at a point near the 1000m she was of the view that jockey Byrne (ROCK ‘N’ SUMMER) was likely to improve forward to the outright lied, which would have allowed her the opportunity to improve forward and settle outside that runner, however as this did not eventuate she was then left racing in a three-wide position. She added that in hindsight it may have been a better option to have restrained at that point near the 1000 and obtained a position with cover behind GANASSI. Stewards noted her explanation.

GOODBYE BEVERLEY – Slow to begin. Trailed the field throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be showing signs of being in season.

MAJOR LUCK – Raced wide throughout.

The track was upgraded to SOFT 5 following the running of this event.

Race 4: INTRUST SUPER QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

CHOREOGRAPH – When questioned regarding the horse’s disappointing performance, D. Browne stated that although the colt had a tendency to race a little greenly, it travelled well throughout, however when a run presented on straightening, the colt failed to quicken and worked to the line only fairly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

NEVER IN DOUBT – Shifted out at the start, became unbalanced and lost ground. Raced greenly in the early and middle stages.

TOKORIKI LAD – Slow to begin.

OUR DESERT ROSE – Reared over whilst parading, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

SHES AN EAGER LASS – Shifted in abruptly at the start. Overraced at the heels of CATALINA MISS and had to be restrained approaching the 800m.

STARZARINA – Had to be checked at the start when severely tightened for room between SHES AN EAGER LASS, which shifted in abruptly, and NEVER IN DOUBT, which shifted out.

STRADA GRANDE – Trainer B. Ahrens was fined $200 for the late declaration of W. D’Avila as rider. Raced three wide without cover in the early and middle stages. Raced greenly in the early stages of the home straight.

Race 5: CARLTON MID MAIDEN H'CAP – 1200M

HALLSIDE REBEL – Trainer C. Anderson reported that the horse underwent corrective throat surgery subsequent to its last run. A public announcement was made to this effect.

GRAND WHISPER – Slow to begin. A. Spinks reported at scale that his saddle shifted near the 800m, placing him at some disadvantage.

I’M JUST PINK – L. Tarrant reported at scale that his mount felt sore and for this reason he was reluctant to pressure his mount over the concluding stages.. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer R. Wilson’s representative, Ms D. Sullivan, expressed her disappointment in the performance and undertook to report to stewards anything that comes to light in coming days which may have had an effect on the performance.

BUSH BANDICOOT – Shifted out at the start and bumped SHE’S FOR RANSOM. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which commenced to hang out from the 700m and took no further competitive part in the event, revealed no significant findings. Trainer S. Hoffman was advised that the horse must perform satisfactorily in an official trial before being permitted to race again.

LAKOUDIS – Bumped shortly after the start.

SHE’S FOR RANSOM – Bumped at the start. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

Race 6: CELLARBRATIONS QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

BEAU DANCER – Raced three wide from the 700m.

CRACKACHARGE – Raced wide in the early stages before improving forward to settle outside the leader near the 700m.

FLIGHT DE VEGAS – Approaching the 100m had to be steadied away from the heels of CRACKACHARGE, which shifted in abruptly.

HEART OF AUSTRALIA – Had difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 300m when attempting a narrow run to  the inside of FLIGHT DE VEGAS.

SEE MIRACLES – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Race 7: BUNDABERG SMALL BATCH CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1050M

MISHANI SLEUTH – Had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ROYAL HOOTENANNY passing the 800m when that runner was steadied. Held up in the early part of the home straight before shifting out to obtain clear running.

LA DOLCE VITA – The start was delayed when the mare proved reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Trainer. T. Edmonds will be advised that a warning will be placed against the horse. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare had been galloped on on the near hind leg. A swab sample was taken.

ROYAL HOOTENANNY – Had to be steadied from the heels of LA DOLCE VITA passing the 800m.

Race 8: DRAGON LINK BENCHMARK 60 H'CAP – 1350M

WHAT’S THAT – When questioned regarding the horse’s performance and his riding in the home straight, R. Fradd explained that when entering the home straight the gelding was inclined to lay in, which he felt was similar to its last start performance when it bled from one nostril and for this reason he was reluctant to overly pressure his mount over the concluding stages. Stewards advised jockey Fradd that he would be expected to report any matter that may have had an effect on a horse’s performance so as not to leave his riding open to question.

DONOT SAY ANYTHING – On entering the home straight had to be steadied away from the heels of TEMPLE TILT, which shifted out to obtain clear running when not fully clear. Jockey B. Pengelly, the rider of TEMPLE TILT, was issued with a reprimand for this incident.

TEMPLE TILT – Slow to begin.

EQUISTAR – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

ALPENGLOW – Late scratching at 3:20 pm when the horse failed to arrive on course by the prescribed time.

OUR ROCK O’REILLY – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards will make further inquiries with trainer P. Duff with regard to the gelding’s recovery.

Race 9: IGT AUSTRALIA CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1200M

CAPITAL CONNECTION – R. Fradd reported at scale that the gelding put in an awkward stride upon entering the home straight and then shifted in abruptly near the 200m when the winner improved to its outside.
