Race 3: JAMES BOAGS PREMIUM MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M

After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage, J. Orman, the rider of ARTERIAL, placed 5th by the Judge, lodged an objection against WAS AGONA (J. Byrne) being declared the winner, alleging interference in the straight. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, it was established that near the 200m ARTERIAL was bumped by INTERVENTIONS when attempting a run between that runner and WAS AGONA, and that inside the 200m ARTERIAL was taken in slightly by WAS AGONA, and that over the concluding stages ARTERIAL raced in restricted room and had to be steadied approaching the winning post when WAS AGONA shifted in. Bearing in mind the margin of 1½ lengths separating both horses at the finish and the proximity of the incident to the winning post, stewards dismissed the protest and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s placings. At a subsequent inquiry, J. Byrne pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that approaching the winning post he permitted his mount to shift in resulting in interference to ARTERIAL. Jockey Byrne’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 12 November and expire at midnight on Tuesday 21 November 2017.

DARING DEEDS – Raced wide throughout.

EIGHT OVER – Shifted out inside the 200m, resulting in INTERVENTIONS having to be checked when tightened for room between EIGHT OVER and ARTERIAL, which was takin in slightly by WAS AGONA. Trainer B. Currie was fined $100 for failing to produce the horse’s Thoroughbred Identification Card.

INTERVENTIONS – Shifted out near the 200m when tiring and made contact with ARTERIAL, which was attempting a run between INTERVENTIONS and WAS AGONA. Had to be checked inside the 200m when tightened for room between EIGHT OVER and ARTERIAL. The veterinary surgeon reported that the gelding was galloped on on the off hind leg.

ARTERIAL – Trainer K. Schweida advised that it would be the intention to have the horse ridden in the second half of the field. The horse was ridden accordingly. Bumped by another runner near the 200m when attempting a run between INTERVENTIONS and WAS AGONA. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages and had to b steadied approaching the winning post.

WAS AGONA – Shifted out from behind heels near the 500m and made contact with another runner.

GRAZIE MILLE BELLA – Raced wide throughout. Bumped near the 500m. Connections advised that after today’s disappointing performance the mare will be sent for a spell and that they would also advise stewards if anything is amiss with the mare in the days following today’s race.

GREY NADA – Raced wide throughout.

PIXIE HOLLOW – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.

Race 4: RECON SOLUTIONS CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1350M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow J. Byrne, the rider of 4th placegetter OUR MANSINI, to view the stewards’ patrol footage to determine whether he had grounds on which to lodge an objection against 3rd placegetter VAULTING AMBITION. After viewing the videos jockey Byrne indicated that he did not wish to lodge an objection.

PARK CHINOIS – Shifted in after leaving the 1200m, made contact with another runner and became unbalanced.

ONE MANSINI – Had to be steadied off heels passing the 800m. Had to shift out near the 100m to avoid the heels of SYAMANTAKA MANI, which shifted out, and in doing so made contact with VAULTING AMBITION. R. Fradd, the rider of SYAMANTAKA MANI, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift out at that point, resulting in the interference to OUR MANSINI. Jockey Fradd’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 12 November and expire at midnight on Monday 20 November 2017.

ZAP – Slow to begin.

DANE JESTER – Had to be resaddled behind the barriers.

SYAMANTAKA MANI – Had to be resaddled behind the barriers. Trainer M. Leitch was questioned regarding the horse’s improved performance. She stated that after a long spell the gelding performed well at its first-up effort at Ipswich on 11 October, however, was disappointing at its next run but she believed fitness may have helped improve the gelding today.

MR BON VIVANT – Stewards accepted the reason for the horse’s late scratching at 8:30 am.

Race 5: ASCOT GREEN BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 2240M

The start of this race was delayed considerably due to storm activity in the area.

GLEN ORD – Tightened for room between runners shortly after the start. Had to steady off heels near the 800m.

PUNKENSTEIN – Had to be checked when taken onto the hind quarters of another runner near the 200m. Stewards issued a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) against T. Harrison, the rider of BRONTE BABE, in that after being taken out by SCARLET POET near the 200m, she continued to ride her mount outwards, resulting in GEOMETRIST being taken outwards and making contact with PUNKENSTEIN. After hearing submissions from jockey Harrison and viewing the videos further, stewards were not satisfied that the charge could be sustained.

GEOMETRIST – Held up rounding the home turn. Hampered near the 200m when tightened for room.

IDLE SITUATION – Connections advised that from the wide barrier it would be the intention to have the horse ridden back in the field. The horse was ridden accordingly.

CLASSY RUBY – L. Tarrant reported at scale that his mount refused to settle in the middle stages, particularly with the addition of blinkers today. Trainer G. Burns was questioned regarding the apparent change of tactics on the mare today. He stated that at its previous start the mare had got back in the field and he instructed his rider today to have it positioned more forward but did not expect it to be racing near the lead. Mr Burns was reminded that he must report any change of tactics to stewards no later than half an hour before the race.

JIMMY HOFFA – J. Byrne was questioned regarding the horse’s disappointing performance. He stated that the gelding travelled well until he asked it to improve at the 800m and it was immediately under pressure and the gelding did not respond to his riding.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had laceration on the off foreleg, consistent with being galloped on.

KIRINI – Tightened for room between runners shortly after the start.

LASER SIGHT – Stewards accepted trainer A. Willick’s explanation for the late declaration of A. Spinks as rider.

Race 6: CANADIAN CLUB C,G&E CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M

Due to a miscommunication between the Clerk of Scales and the Chairman of Stewards, correct weight was semaphored prematurely, however, all riders weighed in without incident.

MAGNUFIGHTER – Bumped near the 200m.

THUNDER ROCKER – Stewards intend to interview jockey M. Cahill regarding his use of the whip.

MADAM DE BAN – R. Fradd reported at scale hat his mount hung in under pressure in the straight.

SPEED GONZALES – Raced wide without cover.

THE EQUALIZER – M. Cahill reported that his mount hung in in the straight.

NUDGEE – Bumped near the 50m. Had to be steadied when tightened for room between runners approaching the winning post.

LIKE A RULER – Shifted out under pressure inside the 100m. Shifted out under pressure approaching the winning post, resulting in rider accidentally striking REALLY REILLY over the head. Apprentice Z. White was severely reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten her mount. Stewards intend to question apprentice Z. White and trainer D.
