Race 1: Sky Thoroughbred Central Open Handicap – 2200m
 
XEBEC – Trainer C. Waller advised the horse would be ridden more forward today and probably lead if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.
 
MAGNATUNE – Trainer G. Duncan advised the horse would be ridden quietly if circumstances permit. The horse raced at the rear of the field.
 
METEOROLOGIST – Slow to begin.
 
MORENDI – Shifted out on jumping and made contact with another runner.
 
BENFICA PRINCESS – Bumped on jumping.
 
 
Race 2: Sofitel Brisbane Central QTIS 2YO Handicap – 1350m
 
POETIC ATTACKS – Slow to begin.
 
CRAIGLEA RUBBLE – Jumped awkwardly and bumped another runner.
 
STATELY MANNER – Bumped on jumping.
 
Race 3: Paddyfest 2018 Class 6 Plate – 1600m
 
Stewards considered an objection lodged by R. Stewart the rider of SAVWELL which finished third against BRED FOR LUCK (B. Stewart) being declared second on the grounds of alleged interference approaching and rounding the home turn. On the evidence it was established that near the 400m BRED FOR LUCK did shift out and make contact with SAVWELL however, that incident did not warrant a reversal of placings and correct weight was declared.
 
CONSTANTINE – Slow to begin.
 
RHYMING – Shifted in on jumping and bumped another runner. Approaching the 1200m when attempting to be restrained got its head in the air and commenced to pull hard.
 
BRED FOR LUCK – Bumped on jumping.
 
AQUATIC – Suffered a bleeding attack during the event. Trainer C. Wallers representative P. Shailer was advised the gelding will incur a mandatory 3 month ban from racing and must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m prior to racing again.
 
App H. English (RHYMING) was fined $200 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.
 
Race 4: Thyme2  Restaurant At Sofitel Brisbane Central QTIS 3YO Handicap – 1350m
 
DREAM KISSES – At the 700m had to be restrained off heels. Lost the off hind plate in running.
 
TROMMELSCHLAGEN – Restrained off heels at the 700m. Held up rounding the home turn and was then tightened for room near the 200m. Jockey R. Fradd reported at scale that in his opinion the gelding did not handle the rain affected track today.
 
HANG – Shifted ground under pressure in the straight. Approaching the 50m App. M. Murphys whip was accidentally hit by the whip of jockey M. McGillivray (DONT LEAVE ME OUT).
 
DONT LEAVE ME OUT – After the 50m jockey McGillivray was accidentally struck on the arm by the whip of App Murphy (HANG). Lost an off fore plate in running.
 
GREAT POWERS – When questioned regarding his riding in the early stages App T. Marshall stated he was under no specific instructions and that at its previous start at Beaudesert the filly had drawn wide and he elected to steady the filly and find cover. App Marshall further stated that after beginning well today and when the runners to his inside did not show enough pace he allowed his mount to stride forward and lead.
 
DYNASTIC – Jockey J. Lloyd reported at scale that he had been instructed to have the gelding more forward today but when he was caught three wide he elected to restrain his mount back  to the rear of the field to find cover.
 
Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reasons why trainer B. Currie had not notified that HANG had been gelded.
 
Race 5: Hamilton Hotel Open Handicap – 1350m
 
App R. Ride (DIVINE SERVICE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that she allowed her mount to shift in near the 1100m when insufficiently clear of ZIN ZAN EDDIE (J. Byrne), which was taken in and had to be restrained off heels.  App Rides licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of nine (9) days to commence midnight 17 March 2018 and expire midnight 26 March 2018.
 
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Soft 6.
 
 
Race 6: Prive249 Restaurant At Sofitel Brisbane Central Class 3 Plate – 1350m
 
CALL THE CAPTAIN – Jumped awkwardly and shifted out bumping another runner. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
SOFT TOP – Bumped on jumping.
 
LETS PARTY MARTY – Near the 1300m became awkward when racing between runners.
 
SUILVEN – Inclined to lay in in the early stages of the straight.
 
SEND US A SIGN – App S. Lacy reported at scale her mount overraced in the early stages.
 
App M. Murphy (CALL THE CAPTAIN) was fined $300 for failing to ride his mount out to the winning post. In the opinion of stewards App Murphy had cost his mount fifth prize money.
 
Following the running of this event the track was downgraded to a Soft 7 retrospective.
 
Race 7: Events At BRC Benchmark 75 Handicap – 1050m
 
ANNATIME – Slow to begin.
 
BRAVE DAZZLER – Slow to begin.
 
TVERSKY – After leaving the 1000m raced in restricted room and had to be steadied.
 
NATIONAL TRAIL – Approaching the 400m had to be steadied away from heels. Cast an off hind plate in running.
 
YARRAPOWER – Jockey J. Lloyd reported after the event that his mount continually kicked behind in the barriers and felt that may have had an affect on todays performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
KIEVANN – Jockey M. McGillivray reported at scale that his intention was to go forward on the gelding however, in his opinion it did not handle the track conditions today and raced back in the field.
 
Due to a heavy downfall the track was downgraded to a Heavy 8 at 4.33 p.m.
Race 8: Blokes Day Out Raceday No More Than One Metro Win Handicap – 1200m
 
INSPIRED ESTELLE – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
BARNSLEY – Near the 1100m shifted in and bumped WELL SIGHTED when taken in by another runner. Then had to be steadied near the 1000m.
 
SUNNY VICTORY - When attempting to relieve the tightening near the 1000m jockey M. Cahill was prevented from doing so by CRIQUETTE, which was racing to his outside and forward of him. Jockey Cahill was reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground.
 
TYZONE – Raced wide without cover throughout. App Q. Krogh reported that in his opinion the gelding did not handle the track conditions today.
 
WELL SIGHTED – Raced wide without cover throughout.

Race 9: Starlight Family Raceday Benchmark 70 Handicap – 1600m
 
Jockey B. Stewart (GALIANO) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that he allowed his mount to shift in approaching the 800m taking RECKLESS ABANDON in onto DIAMONDS ARE, which had to be checked. Jockey Stewarts licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of fifteen (15) days to commence midnight 17 March 2018 and expire midnight 1 April 2018. In assessing penalty stewards took into account the high degree of carelessness and interference.
 
SMOOTH CONSUL – Severely checked to avoid heels near the 800m.
 
KUTTAMURRA AL – Severely checked near the 800m.
 
DIAMONDS ARE – Checked severely near the 800m. Eased near the 300m. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer M. Costa will be interviewed early next week in relation to how the gelding had recovered form its performance today.
 
QUEEN OF HEIGHTS – Jockey J. Lloyd reported at scale that his mount overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
WHATS THAT – Jockey R. Fradd reported at scale that his mount failed to handle the track conditions today.
