Race 1: MANDATE BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1050M

The start of this race was delayed when JETSONIC required farrier attention.

JETSONIC – M. McGillivray reported at scale that he was disappointed in the gelding’s finishing effort and that it wanted to hang out throughout the race.

MUDDY ROPE – J. Lloyd reported at scale that his mount was reluctant to race in between runners after leaving the 800m and did not appreciate the track conditions today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be sore over the hind quarters. Trainer C. Anderson will be advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

STELLARCRAFT – Trainer D. Murphy was fined $100 for failing to produce the horse’s Thoroughbred Identification Card. Mr Murphy was advised that the horse’s nomination would be refused until such time as the Thoroughbred Identification Card is produced. A warning was placed on the gelding for being difficult to load.

TURBO TEDDY – Jumped awkwardly.

Race 2: MANDATE QTIS 2YO H’CAP – 1050M

GRAND DE LAGO – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

GREYT LOVE – Raced wide without cover.

MISHANI KRISHNA – Raced wide throughout.

ALLORAINE – When questioned, the only explanation N. Tomizawa could offer for the horse’s disappointing performance was that he believed the filly may have got its tongue over the bit during the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer T. Sears advised that the filly would undergo an endoscopic examination in ensuing days, the results of which he will forward to stewards.

EULEILAH – Slow to begin.

MAYBE MARKLE – Slow to begin. Restrained off heels near the 700m. Hampered near the 600m.

SHIELD WALL – Connections advised that it would be the intention to attempt to ride the mare in a midfield position with cover. The horse settled at the rear of the field. Bumped heavily shortly after the start and was then taken in, making contact with the hind quarters of another runner and had to be checked. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

SHOCKFACTOR – Bumped heavily shortly after the start and a short distance later had to be checked and lost ground. Had to be steadied near the 100m when tightened for room by SWEET ADALINE, which was taken in by SHARPAMAL, which shifted in under pressure. J. Lloyd, the rider of SHARPAMAL, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in at that stage.

DON’T TELL MAMA – Had to be checked near the 1400m to avoid the heels of RUDY, which shifted in when not fully clear. Apprentice J. Guthmann-Chester, the rider of RUDY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in at that point. Apprentice Guthmann-Chester’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 10 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 24 March and expire at midnight on Tuesday 3 April 2018. In determining penalty, stewards were mindful of apprentice Guthmann-Chester’s guilty plea and his previous good record in relation to this rule. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be stepping short behind.

Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to SOFT 6.

McCabe, jockey Cahill indicated that he did not wish to lodge an objection.

She stated that she had been instructed to have the mare positioned behind the leaders and after beginning awkwardly she rode CHASE THE WIND hard to comply with instructions, however, approaching the 1000m she felt she may have been able to take a trail behind CRIQUETTE but was prevented from doing so by VIADUCTRESS improving to her inside and therefore she raced three wide without cover. She added that she tried to have the mare relax when racing in that position.
