Race 7: QRIC ASCOT H'CAP – 1200M
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to determine whether AMANAAT had been afforded a fair start. After taking submissions from trainer B. Currie, jockey B. El-Issa, owner Mr T. Khoury, the starters and viewing the patrol footage, it was established that AMANAAT, which had been very fractious in the barriers and was receiving assistance from barrier attendants, had its head turned and it was momentarily in the adjoining stall as the start was effected and as a result did not jump with the rest of the field, losing significant ground and settling at the rear of the field. Stewards deemed that AMANAAT had been denied a fair start and as a result declared the horse a non-runner. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on the horse be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:
33 cents in the dollar for the win #9
24 cents in the dollar for place of winner #9
24 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #6
24 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #7
A post-race veterinary examination of AMANAAT revealed that the horse had sustained a significant laceration to its lower jaw and had dislodged two teeth. Trainer B. Currie was advised that the horse will require a further barrier certificate and a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
At a subsequent inquiry, B. El-Issa, was reprimanded for his conduct during the proceedings.
